  1. That is pretty impressive, nice job on the SubD modeling. It's Vectorworks' fault (definitely not yours) that the label mapping is not 'perfect'. The characters at the beginning and ending of the longer text lines are getting stretched wide, most notably on the 'Up to 10 Applications' line. But you did extremely well using only Vw mapping options. Nice work!
  2. I have not tried this so I don't know how well it works, but a Google search turned up this free tool Solibri IFC Optimizer BUT - I also found this older forum thread warning about using Solibri IFC Optimizer with Vw.
  3. @Benson: that's a very thorough explanation of what Vw should display with Custom .IES light fixtures. As you made the Visual-3D test settings match your Vw2016 test settings (light fixture setback 5' away from a 5' square surface), I see no reason why Vw does not display the same results. The problem appears not to be with the .IES distribution file. Reading back through your OP - just to be clear - both Vw2015 & Vw2016 give the same incorrect 'figure 8' light results? I know your test file is easy to replicate, but could you post your Vw test file along with a separate .ZIP file containing the .IES files?
  4. @Mattheng: Unfortunately, as Vw's mapping options are limited to those you already listed and tried, the wooden board texture on the elliptical shape is never going to have equal plank widths. Vw's best texture mapping option for your design is Cylinder, and as you're trying to map a cylinder on to an ellipse, the texture is going to get squished. [Vectorworks needs UV texture mapping to achieve what you're asking, and as discussed ad infinitim for over a decade in multiple forum threads, that's not going to happen any time soon. If ever]. The only way I can think of getting the board width textures closer to equal plank width would be to break the elliptical shape into four separate pieces; the longer, flatter sides along the major axis and the shorter, more curved ends along the minor axis. Then you could texture each of these pairs with a different mapping width of the same board texture, eyeballing them to get close to equal plank width between the two sets.
  5. Benson- something is definetly not right. I've used .IES files without much trouble, but I haven't tried in Vw2016 yet. On the Mac there is not an .IES file viewer that I know of, but the following website will allow you to open and view the profiles for those Lumenpulse .IES files. That way you can determine whether or not you have bad .IES distribution files: Photometric Viewer : Visual-3d.com
  6. @zoomer: I am guessing that most of your 'uncontrollable re-rendering' issues are caused by using RW modes other than OpenGL on Design Layers. From previous threads I know that this is not your workflow, but using RW Styles with SLVPs would reduce some of your frustrations.
  7. So I gather that Vw2016 SP2 has been released through the usual 'Check for Updates' method? I didn't see any announcement of SP2 here on the forums, nor is it posted to the VSS Portal 'Current Vectorworks Release' (still SP1 installer on VSS). EDIT: I found the Tech Bulletin announcement of SP2: Tech Bulletin: Second Service Pack for the Vectorworks 2016 Product Line Now Available [seems like these Vw Tech Bulletin Announcements should include a release date].
  8. In the interim, there are a few medical devices / equipment available in Sketchup format in this collection MILSTD 1691 Medical Collection
  9. Maybe this video from the help file will explain how backups work. You want to set a number of backups to keep, but yes you do have to manually save your file. Same as you would in any other software application.
  10. I don't know whether this will work, but since Marionette is Python-based (not Vectorscript), maybe you could create a custom Marionette node containing the Python script version of VS:ArcTo? (The rest of your poly script would need to be Python as well, not Vectorscript). Just a thought.
  11. AutoCAD has long had a setting in the Plotter Configuration Editor called 'Merge Control' that allows you to globally control whether 'Lines Overwrite' (current Vw behavior) or 'Lines Merge' (what is described in Kevin's first request). If possible, this 'Lines Merge Control' should be added as an option to Vw print settings. This would address the first part of Kevin's hidden-line requests
  12. I don't know whether the license agreement is different for Canada, but with your purchase of Vw2016 you should still get 12 months of free tech support whether or not you bought the 'extended coverage' aka Service Select.
  13. Do you mean turn all the classes off in the navigation palette? (aka click the eye off) I tried that and it didn't work. If that is not what you meant, could you be more specific? You want all the Layers and Classes turned 'ON' (Eye Open), and on the Class Options and Layer Options you want 'Show / Snap / Modify' others: Take a look at this video on
  14. @MHBrown: Your impression that this thread dating from 2010 is discussing Vw2016 is incorrect. All Forum User's signatures reflect their current signature, even on old threads. You have to read in the body text to see which version is being discussed, as you cannot rely on only the signature. [This is why it is good forum etiquette to mention the Vectorworks version in either the body text or in the subject line].
  15. It sounds related to the other bugs found in many of the other Spotlight tools. Quote taken from that thread: 2016 Spotlight Truss Tool Issue
  16. In this post over on the Marionette forum, DomC has posted a file containing his custom Marionette nodes to insert 2D & 3D symbols.
  17. I have not tried it, but I believe that Joshua Benghiat's third-party plugin 'Savvy Sequencer' will let you do exactly this.
  18. I did a quick search and did not see that this had been posted elsewhere on the forums: Vectorworks users can now benefit from the AEC (UK) BIM approach Link to PDF of AEC (UK) BIM Protocol For Nemetschek Vectorworks
  19. You're welcome Giovanni. If you double click on a Marionette node, it will show you the underlying Python code; This might help you figure out how DomC was setting the reference insertion point.
  20. Giovanni- What you're describing sounds like some Marionette nodes / networks that DomC has posted over at this thread. Look at the second row from the top in the image below (copied from that thread); it allows you to set the rectangle's reference insertion point. He also has some other node networks which randomly distribute symbols over a 2D or 3D polygon, see node example for filling an area with symbols Maybe Marionette might help with whatever you're working on, just a thought. HTH.
  21. Exactly - and this is even better since the introduction of slab components: Editing Slab Geometry with 3D Modifiers : Vw2016 Help File Editing Slab Geometry with 2D Modifiers : Vw2016 Help File
  22. Both Parallels and Adobe Creative Suite install the application(s) first without activation, you only need your Serial Number: This part you can do without Internet access. Upon application first-run you get a dialog box asking / requiring you to authorize over the Internet. Once authorized, there is a pull-down menu item for 'Deauthorize this Computer'. I think deauthorizing through the VSS portal should be in addition to a method through the application itself. Not everyone has a VSS subscription, and what if the VSS portal is down.
  23. ++++1 YESSSSS! My display has a line of finger prints from where I have been manually counting down through the Notes manager list.
  24. ++++1 [in my opinion this is a bug, not a wishlist item]. I've been meaning to submit this as a bug as it also happens in Vw2015, I don't recall if it goes further back than that. It really drives me nuts as it wastes A LOT of time to set each offending note back to 'Use the first 42...'
