  2. Helo, I've got a camera linked to a focus point. I've made a camera viewport out of it (copy camera option). Is it possible to make this viewport accept new camera focus when a focus point or camera itself changes its location on a design layer? Thanks
  3. Hi! I cant seem to rotate the truss cross on the right. Why is this? There is a rotate field in the truss cross that says 0. When i try to change it to 90 it just goes back to 0 again when pressing enter.

  5. @WhoCanDo Here is a little tutorial on the NURBS and Shell. Sounds like you area getting there. This little tutorial might help some. In the Loft steps, I added the alignment to make a straigter shape. Another approach is to use the Ruled option. Align as desired. In the Shell steps, when picking the surfaces, click the 1st (top in this case), then, to extend the selection, press/hold Shift and Option to acc press the occluded surface at bottom of the figure. HTH -B Shell(1).mov
  6. Interesting Kevin, After a bit more testing, and you suggestion of "same direction", I think I understand my error. Because the circle wouldn't Loft, I changed it to a polygon, but because there was no "convert to polyline" tool, I also changed the polyline to polygon to match. Big mistake. They wouldn't Loft either, so I changed them both to Nurbs and that's why it lofts to a group and not a Generic Solid. I will have to remember that the polyline should never be changed to a polygon before changing to a Nurb, but a polyline or polygon can be changed directly to a Nurb.
  7. Is it because the weight value is stored as a text string...? Does something like #WS_VALUE('Light Position Obj.TotalHungWeight')#-54,66 work instead? Maybe post a small file.
  8. Text Only Image. Prompt: Minimalist store exterior, at dusk, the architecture should feature clean lines with a sophisticated monochromatic, integrating elements of modernism and minimalism, display window, indoor wall warm grey and texture finished, diffused light on the curated objects within, which reflect a blend of natural textures, the composition should be balanced and serene, evoking a sense of high-end fashion and artistry, the pavement should have a herringbone pattern, with subtle reflections of the storefront lighting, the overall image should be sharp, exquisite detail, from the texture of the building materials to the softness of the light’s glow
  9. It's the Create Solid checkbox that creates a solid object, not the Closed checkbox. Your curves also need to be going in the same direction. Kevin
  10. Are you able to share the file from your example? Mark Doubleday's video on schematic views may be helpful to you - Kevin
  11. Hi Virtualenvirons, Even though I have created this part using multiple extrude, your questions are valuable for other components I need to draw. As per my initial post, the circle is 60mm diameter and the oval is 30mm radius and 77.49mm long. It's actually a slot. The finished height is 90mm and the wall thickness is 5mm. I would be interested in reading your step-by-step method of creating the same object with Nurbs and Lofting.
  12. Thanks for this info/guidance. Now that I've created a custom record, attached it to the VW hoist plug-in object, and have created data tags that work with the custom record... Is it possible to create a new symbol with all three of those elements attached together? In other words, I'd like to have a VW plug-in hoist object with custom record and data tags already attached and ready to be pulled out of my resource browser. When I tried to select all the elements, and then click create symbol command, the custom record disappeared. When I tried to reattach it, the imbedded data tags would not link back up. Thanks, again.
  13. A problem may be in how the curves were created. This can be an issue. The curves have to be matched to some degree. I gather you want to make the shape indicated and have it hollowed out. If you want to, please post the two curves you have constructed. I can have a look tomorrow.
  14. For Hidden Line you'll probably want to adjust the Smoothing Angle as well, which defaults to 1° I believe, but that's unusably low since it shows all facets. To adjust it for a viewport, click on Background Render Settings (Or Foreground Render Settings, whichever is your Hidden Line), then set the Smoothing Angle higher. I start with 30° as a default then go from there. It sounds like you perhaps have both foreground and background set to Hidden Line. You don't need both. Just set the Foreground Render to None and work with Background Render only. (Or, set background to Shaded and set foreground to Hidden Line).
  15. set your render mode for the viewport to Shaded or Artistic Renderworks, then adjust the settings for the render mode to get your desired result. Here's Hidden Vs Shaded Vs Artistic In case you don't know... Don't forget to update your viewport each time you make a change so it re-renders the window. That's what those red candy cane stripes around the viewport are telling you.
  16. In the configuration of each door, you can indicate the name of the space in one of the user fields of the Data item. Instead of getpacenameforobject, use the formula =('Door'.'UserFld1'), for field 1.

  18. For anyone else that might find this thread: Seeing as this problem persists no matter the version of Vectorworks, the cause is most likely the file itself or a condition within it. (It is noteworthy that it doesn't occur on Mac, but a difference in computational efficiency or a difference in the software dependencies engaged might account for this). I suggest you check for far out objects in the file. It could be due to a corrupt object as well, but they're harder to isolate. You'll find instructions here:
  19. VW does not officially monitor & reply to the forum. For better or worse, the forum is primarily for users to interact with each other. Some VW employees do take the time to comment. You can reach out to VW tech support and/or bug submission directly, although response there is not always great (see other forum threads). Agree.
  20. Yes, but I couldn't "Closed" it. The Close button would not stay ticked even though it was not greyed. The loft created multiple Nurbs and grouped them. It did not merge them into one solid/surface as I was expecting.
  21. Hi I am a rookie of student VW version. I create a viewpoint with foreground and background in hidden line style. But it will show the surface line of path and site. Is there any way I could set its render style like the SketchUp style, which only shows the edge of the object, not show the 3D triangle in the viewport? Thank you
  22. Hi @Elite Exhibits, I'm not sure what you mean by whether "a crop object [was] on the design layer when the viewport was selected". Can you clarify? Here is how the viewport was created. I tried setting the viewport to your specifications in the OIP and hitting update but nothing changes.
  23. Sure it is better. I don’t manage to do that with the Redshift exterior finall render style. How do I make a "native RS material" ?
  24. I'm using symbols from the Vectorworks fixture library, this happens with any symbol. It seems that Vectorworks is only designed so that we can make assemblies observable in the TOP view. I'm probably missing something here. I don't know of a practical and easy way to solve this problem, I've even contacted support and haven't been able to get any effective help. What I have been using is the Wireframe or Shaded view, but schematically it is not something so simple or that it looks so beautiful in the document to specify this. So could you explain to me these methods for representing instruments hung on booms? Thank you very much. 25. I change the render style to redshift exterior final to make a fair comparison between RS and Final Quality Renderworks, This is the rendering if I change to native RS material, with exactly the same parameters from the Edit Metallic Shader Dialog, can this be consider better?
  26. Interesting - maybe try dropping your file in the 'Audio Controls' folder in your Workgroup>Entertainment and see what happens.
  27. It would also be nice to have the dashed line attributes put back in the Attributes palette instead of the over-worked Resources Palette. It makes sense since all of the other line adjustments are in the Attributes palette. It was far easier to manipulate dashed lines when this was the case. MH Brown
