Need help with a script, for creating symbols from groups
TSG-Sim replied to TSG-Sim's topic in Vectorscript
thank you I appreciate it a lot you creating that so quickly it helps considerably @MullinRJ , I am going to have to make some time to get my head around scripting in Vectorworks because it would save a lot of time for some of our repetitive tasks. viewport creation and symbol creation are two of the longest tasks that are the most repetitive in our work. With regards to the items I don't need to move the items together I would do that when creating them they would be normally together, the 1m from top to bottom gap was me just showing it like that so it was easier to see the 2d item and 3d item for scripting it. If I wanted the insertion point for each symbol to be always at the front centre of the chair so 0,0 would always be front centre of the chair, created from each group and never be any different, how would I change the code you provided for that. I am guessing that would be part of the hMove or is it when it is defining the hCenter? truly thank you I owe you a drink 🙂 -
Another option is to use Multiple View Panes (MVP), but I think @Jeff Prince gave you better options, especially for an older Mac as MVP can slow things down.
-
If I had to do this I would probably forego the Door tool and model it in 3D (hybrid symbol for top/plan rendering) not used as a "Door" but placed directly in the model, and generating the opening in by reshaping the wall peaks.

Need help with a script, for creating symbols from groups
MullinRJ replied to TSG-Sim's topic in Vectorscript
Hello @TSG-Sim, I took a stab at doing what you described in your post. I opened your file and added a script (Groups to Symbols) that converts your groups to symbols. After the conversion, it places the new symbols at the same locations as the original groups. One thing I noted is that your chair CP101, which is already a symbol, has the 2D and 3D parts overlapping, while the groups to be converted have the 2D and 3D parts separated by 1m. This script does not move the 2D/3D pieces together. That is doable but would require a bit more code. Check out the script and see if this does what you want, then write back – BUT PLEASE – check it out on a copy of your data first. Grp2Sym test file.vwx HTH, Raymond -

Trying to export 3D loci to .dwg or dxf - loci are not exporting
unearthed replied to unearthed's topic in General Discussion
That is super Nina! and for the file edits and examples. And fortunmately BricsCAD (my version is for year 2012) is near identical to AutoCAD so I have this functionality. BricsCAD forum discussion on PDMODE as people may find it useful in future. -
Corner Block Woes - Allow Extra Roll Angle not working as expected.
Mike Rock replied to Mike Rock's topic in Entertainment
I might not have made my point clear. I can get the truss placed in the correct orientation, the issue is connection it to the corner block either rotates the truss or CB out of the assigned roll angle. Attached is a file with a truss structure not snapped together with magnets. How would I be able to use magnets to arcuately position the truss without having any pieces rotate? CB Example.vwx -
Crop edit not showing objects beyond crop line
MGuilfoile replied to MGuilfoile's question in Troubleshooting
...also the Crop tool only worked once (that is, it showed objects outside the viewport crop when that option was selected.) It no longer works, so the updated video card driver did nothing and was, apparently, a waste of time. MH Brown -
Problem with "Use Symbol" for 3D rack equipment items
SSvectorproblems replied to SSvectorproblems's topic in ConnectCAD
Hoping for a touch more help here. I have mostly solved the problem, but it introduced a new problem. This bug happens before AND after the recent 4.1 update. I am working on a new rack elevation in the same project, using the same VWX file. I build a new schematic on a different sheet layer. I need to create equipment on a new 3d sheet layer for this rack elevation. (It is technically in a different building but systems are connected). However when I do "create equipment" on these new devices, it automatically selects "use symbol" and picks a random symbol. Which messes up all of my carefully entered physical dimensions. Even when I deselect "use symbol" the dimensions of that symbol remain. I have 80 devices so this is a major choke point for progress this week. So essentially there is no way for the physical dimensions to carry over from devices, when they become equipment. I even tried using the eyedropper, but it also changes the name and location, with no way to only copy physical dimensions. so now I have 80 devices all named the same one on top of the other. -
This post called back same issue we dealt with.... jonp001's pic of the folding door corner has no jamb stop at the corner. Let me know if I'm reading the post pic right. The round column is freestanding. Once the door is opened, the corner is open with the round column set back. We had the same issue. I included a sketch from a past project. Ended up masking the corner. Is there a better way?

Crop edit not showing objects beyond crop line
MGuilfoile replied to MGuilfoile's question in Troubleshooting
I spoke too soon. Although I am now able to see outside the crop line when cropping viewporst, I'm still getting these crazy artifacts when in shaded mode (see attached images). No, it is not an imported mesh of some sort. With the exception of the monitor, all objects are native VW objects (not that that should matter). This only seems to happen in Shaded mode, which, I know, is different from the Renderworks modes. I believe it is handled by the GPU, or mishandled in this case. Is anyone else seeing this? It makes it impossible to work. The graphics drivers have been updated. This is occurring using Vectorworks Architect 2023, the latest version, on Windows 10--which by the way I have decided is NOT a professional level OS, but that is another story. Any ideas anyone? Hi All, I'm really excited about the 3D snapping implications of accessories. However, I have a suite of accessories like snapgrids, chimeras, etc. that I need a 2D component below the 2D symbol of the parent fixture. Is there a way I can resolve this issue? Thanks, Martin

It is impossible to predict where AI will take us, but I think it will be beyond what any of us can imagine. Although we cannot see the future.....we can look to the past for answers as the evolution of 3D Virtual Reality was the AI of its time. In 2000 I was charged with reconstructing in 3D the Government Conference Centre in Ottawa back to what it was in 1934, as a Grand Trunk Union Railway Station. Nearly a quarter of a century ago. Some of you (students) may not have been born, others just embracing this tecnnology today. My colleagues were all 2D ACAD. Not only did they not embrace this technology, but actually worked against it saying it would not last, it was only a “flicker in the wind” and I should get back to doing real design in 2D. Well, we know that theory has been disproven and my colleagues although retired, all eventually moved to 3D design This is the Grand Trunk Union Railway Station Ottawa Canada circa 1934. Built ~70 % Vectorworks and the rest CINEMA 4D. This was well before the “Send to C4D” command. It is the original movie from that time. A Long time ago, in a City far, far away...

Need help with a script, for creating symbols from groups
TSG-Sim replied to TSG-Sim's topic in Vectorscript
Hi Pat, thanks for getting back to me, that is from chatGPT, I started writing my own script but then I couldn't get it to work, so I put it into chatgpt to see if it could help me fix, I stupidly deleted the conversation in chatgpt once I knew that it wasn't doing what I wanted but forgot to copy my code back from it, I should have probably just come on here instead. I understand about constants and variables, while and for loops but putting the basics together and into practice is a little more difficult. Is there any useful ways to start working with vectorscript? Attached is the extract of a few groups and a already manually completed symbol. I hope I made sense in what I am trying to ask for and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sim test file.vwx -
Hello All I just upgraded to 2024 and I am wondering how to get the libraries back? Specifically I cannot find any tree libraries in the folders. I have plants but no trees? Is there somewhere I can look to find and restore this library? Thank you! Matt

Your google drive has restricted access. You can also post .vwx files directly here.

Crop edit not showing objects beyond crop line
MGuilfoile replied to MGuilfoile's question in Troubleshooting
Thanks, that seems to have done it! It also may have fixed lots of other graphics issues, such as objects disappearing while in Edit mode or after being rotated. MH Brown -
Thanks so much for your response, Jeff!

Need help with a script, for creating symbols from groups
Pat Stanford replied to TSG-Sim's topic in Vectorscript
Can you post a small sample file with one of your Groups and information about what objects should be in the Top/Plan view and which should be in the 3D view. It will make it much easier to help you. And did you use ChatGPT or similar to write the script? Because most of the functions you have used don't exist in Vectorscript. -
Thank you for your support and advice. I will look into creating my custom window using the Window Tool.
-
Okay thanks for your responses. I am unfamiliar with IFC file formats but will look into it.
-
According to the Vw2023 help file, it says that Vw2023 can import Revit 2023. Aside from that, Jeff is correct; in order to import / reference Revit 2023 files in Vw you would need to upgrade to Vw2023. If you cannot upgrade, then you're stuck with either IFC or DWG as your only other options. Vw 2023 Guide - Importing Revit No -- Revit cannot downsave to an older version. I have a 2016 MacBook Pro, and I can run both Vw2023 and 2024. But I have more VRAM (4GB) and I am not running MacOS Ventura 13. I would install Vw2023 and see if it works well enough to just import the Revit 2023 file, then downsave your .VWX to Vw2022 and continue working in Vw2022.
-
Look at IFC and see if that will meet your needs. If so, perhaps you could ask the architects to export to that format. Otherwise, you will need to upgrade your Vectorworks to 2024 I believe in order to read Revit 2023.

Post them here and someone will convert them and post them back. Or if they are confidential, you can get a 1 month subscription to VW and do the conversion yourself.
