0 Christiaan
I've often wondered whether this kind of interface is a solution looking for a problem, but having used touch interfaces now it would be great to be able to do the same thing without obscuring the view. Quote Link to comment
0 CipesDesign
Very intriguing. Not sure exactly how this interface would function with a complex program (like VW's), but it would be interesting to find out. Quote Link to comment
0 Bruce Kieffer
It's cool, but remember that Steve Jobs pointed out that vertical touch screens won't work due to the time a person has to keep their arms in the air. I got tired just watching the video of this product! I wish them the best of luck. Quote Link to comment
0 CipesDesign
Bruce, I agree (and I remember). It might be cool for certain things, but probably not for CAD. I can imagine wowing clients with it during a presentation, though... Quote Link to comment
0 VincentCuclair
Well, the way i'll be setting it up: Drawing with a pen/pencil/ in my right hand as a stylus. Manipulating/rotating/zooming/orbit etc with the left. Glas table-top with the leap motion sensor underneath and a screen on top......... Quote Link to comment
0 Christiaan
Could be a catch here. It might be too tiring for prolonged use like that of a CAD programme. I believe this is why Apple hasn't created touch screen desktop and laptop machines too, but instead gone with separate touch input devices that let you rest your wrist in the same way as a mouse. 0 Alan H
Well, the way i'll be setting it up: Drawing with a pen/pencil/ in my right hand as a stylus. Manipulating/rotating/zooming/orbit etc with the left. Glas table-top with the leap motion sensor underneath and a screen on top......... That sounds good - reinventing the old drawing board and having the benefits of the computer! Interesting video. I guess we will have to wait and see how things develop or if it takes off... The motion sensor would need to pick up the pen movement rather than your hand, a touch screen would be better then you can get a feel for the stylus against a surface. I could probably do with the extra exercise but this would probably be exhausting Quote Link to comment
0 AndiACD
What always annoys me with these "Novelties" is that, now that tablets are accessible, we still don't see them being made into cheap Cintique replacements. Leap offers another option, nothing really new, just another way of looking at it. If someone could just create a Translator i could plug into an iPad, Android or Windows Tablet that relays sketch input directly to desktops/laptops then Wacom would have to behave instead of oblige. i hope there is a flurry of similar input devices that causes everyone to rethink the connection paradigm. No matter how good this concept may be it will be sometime before the 3DMouse, Stylus, Keyboard combo can be beaten . . . . . . IMHO Quote Link to comment
0 VincentCuclair
I think that if the sensor can distinguish movements in 3D space it should be able to be programmed to work even when using a pen/your hands/ a stylus etc on a flat table top...like apple touch pads......What NV need to get developed os how to apply click, double click, left click etc Edited July 23, 2012 by Vincent C Quote Link to comment
0 grant_PD
I think that probably the easiest way to speed up programs would be to have voice recognition built in, so one could dictate to the program all of the things you wanted as you were drawing (adding records, value, z height etc). Probably the reason why this has never caught on is that it would make for a very odd workplace. But then I'm sure we all mutter anyway... Quote Link to comment
0 VincentCuclair
.....the next step would be thought recognition, hoever that may lead to an odd working place in a completely different kind of way Edited July 23, 2012 by Vincent C Quote Link to comment
0 NickSolyom
Has anyone had any success with the Leap and Vectorworks? I'm sorry to revive an old thread but the Leap is certainly something I'm interested in, even just to pan and zoom the page. Quote Link to comment
0 mike m oz
It would be great to know if this works or not. It looks as if it would be a lot easier to use than a tablet. Quote Link to comment
0 VincentCuclair
Haven't had a look at this in a while but what I remember is that the Program developers need to implement functionality for this and I don't think they have, Jim? Quote Link to comment
0 Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 15, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 15, 2014 I messed with one at home for awhile with various application, either it can be integrated directly into the application as a supported input device, or you can map your input to existing functions. I was able to get it to pan generally left and right, but full integration is where it would shine, letting you grab a model in the design layer and look it over by rotating it in your hands. They are looking into interfaces like this and other 3D scanning tech in R&D but no official word yet. Quote Link to comment
0 Markvl
Very cool. Definite applications, but like many have stated here, it's limited due to ones ability to keep there arms up. Presenations are a great place for this though. Quote Link to comment
