  1. I use Architect, not Landmark, so I can't be certain this will work on Plant Tags, but from what it says in the help file, Modify > Align > Align/Distribute Leader Lines with 'Move shoulder points' horizontal alignment might be able to help align groups of plant tags' shoulder points at once. Depending on how your tags are laid out on the page, you may have to do them in batches (left-side, right-side, etc.) Aligning and Distributing Leader Lines : Vw2016 online help But it does seem like there should be a setting for 'Shoulder Length' in the Plant Tag. HTH.
  2. There are Document Settings to display in 'Black & White Only', along with 'Black Background'; Those two together will get what I think you're calling 'blacklines', meaning black lines on a white background. In Vw2015 & 2016 there are Quick Preferences buttons on the Tool bar where each of these settings can be easily accessed. Setting Quick Preferences : Vw2016
  3. Where is that tool ? I wasn't able to combine any NURBS Surfaces. Just 3d power pack > Stich and trim surfaces, which will give me a Generic Solid only. @zoomer: here's a link to the help topic on the Connect / Combine tool, it describes Position-matching for NURBS that Kaare was describing. HTH. Combining and Connecting Objects : Vw2015 online help
  4. Ramoo: If you haven't already, try deleting your Vw preferences as described below in Steps 2 through 4 in Uninstalling Vectorworks Once you've deleted the Vw preferences, empty the trash and restart. Once restarted, repair your Permissions and restart again. Repairing Permissions : Apple Support Log in to your user account, and for good measure reset the NVRAM as described below. How to Reset NVRAM : Apple Support Once you've done all that, log back in, start up Vw, enter your SN and hope for the best.
  5. Texturing issues in Vw are not limited only to meshes. From my wishlist request here's a list of objects that are currently hamstrung by the lack of UV textures: Subdivision Objects Cabinet PIO Door PIO 3D plants with textures can't be scaled Framing Objects Meshes NURBS Surfaces (e.g. Drape Surface) Try texturing this simple solid wood cube (see attached image) in Vw without first extracting all the faces as separate NURBS surfaces. SketchUp can easily do this while allowing it to stay a manifold solid 3D object, not a non-manifold group of NURBS surfaces. Same problem for wood Framing Members and anything else for which you want a wood grain. If you want to show an end grain on a Framing member, you have to first break the object's functionality and extract all the faces. In another thread on this topic, JimW said that he expected per-face texturing should be possible in Vw, but it hasn't happened yet, and this issue has been around for over 10 years. NURBS surfaces already have UV coordinates as part of their geometric makeup, so is there a good reason why we can't access their UV coordinates for texturing purposes? The OpenGL spec uses texture coordinates (labeled as ST coordinates) and even has a section in the programming guide titled Automatic Texture-Coordinate Generation : OpenGL Programming Guide. So if OpenGL is already using texture coordinates, why can't those ST texture coordinates be repurposed by Renderworks for use as a 'UV Texture' tag? I feel like there has been a misperception put forth by Vectorworks, Inc. that UV texturing requires a graphic UI for mesh unfolding. I certainly could be wrong, but I disagree and do not think it is required. Yes, dedicated 3D modeling software packages do have complicated UV mesh unfolding, but competing BIM packages do not. Revit, ArchiCad and SketchUp all have UV texturing without requiring any complicated UI mesh unfolding. How did they do it? Magic beans? So no, texturing issues in Vw are not limited only to meshes...
  6. New topics get created so fast around here you might have missed it but JimW did create a special thread for it: Subdivision Introductory Tutorials
  7. @Chris Brough: It sounds like you saying that that the current Shell Solid command does not do what you want, right? Shell from a Solid Object : Vw2015 Online Help I don't understand what you mean by this because a 'surface', by definition, has no thickness.
  8. The original poster in that other thread also said that all the classes were on: Two completely unrelated occurrences is starting to sound like a bug to me. Keep us posted - good luck.
  9. There was another thread about this recently, I don't know that it was ever resolved. Titleblocks Vanishing
  10. Yeah - it was getting annoying so I set it to never check for updates. It should be able to tell the difference between a new Service Pack and a new version.
  11. That is strange if that's how you already had your classes set up. Just to test things out, try changing all of your class Fills to bright green and then change your Text Style background Fills to orange. Maybe that can narrow down who is the culprit. In addition, I think you'll want both your window and sills classes to have a solid fill.
  12. +1 to the original post and bcd's suggestion of QuickView in the RB (not sure how that will translate for Windows users). As long as engineering is taking notes, I'll reiterate my wishlist request for a 'live' Search Field in the Resource Browser (among other places): Search Fields to Narrow Items in Long Lists in Dialog Boxes 'Live Search' meaning that as soon as you start typing the list starts to narrow down to your search, and you don't have to press Enter. In the Resource Browser, for example, searching for "metal" would show all RW textures, hatches, images, image fills, wall types, symbols, etc. that contain the word "metal" somewhere in their name.
  13. Thanks JimW for the clarification. I'm just curious about what was the intended iterative design development & documentation workflow for using Marionette objects like the cool 'sliced skyscrapers' that Luis M Ruiz recently posted. Maybe that would be a good topic for a future Marionette tutorial: 'How to use a Marionette object in a real design project workflow'. As I understand it, since Vw can't display two layers of different scale at the same, using that sliced skyscraper example, and based on what you're saying, you would have to tweak the Marionette network variables and object on a 1:1 layer. Then when you need to present various design options, you'd move the Marionette object (skyscrapers) to a 1:240 layer (for example) and integrate it with the site design for presentation. But now that you've moved the Marionette object (MO) from the 1:1 layer, any further iterative design tweaking requires deleting the 1:240 version, changing the 1:1 Marionette network variables, and moving the MO back to the 1:240 layer. Repeat as required. It's not the smoothest workflow for an iterative design tool like Marionette. I think that ideally the Marionette object should live and stay on the scaled layer. Otherwise it requires a bunch of unnecessary steps as outlined above. Wait a minute - I know what would fix this! Displaying multiple document views at the same time!
  14. Gotcha, my confusion. Maybe James Russell will be able to help with your request on that other related thread. Good luck.
  15. I think you could use Count(criteria), using the 'set criteria' function on the Datbase header cell. Example from Worksheet Functions : Vw2015 Online Help: See these related posts for further info on using Count with 'set criteria': seating layout question Vectorworks 2014 Symbol Count? Count Function and And Function Or take a look at this thread that recommends using a Report instead of worksheet: Counting Symbols in a Worksheet
  16. @jmartinarch: 1: To set the Class properties, go to Tools > Organization. (Or click the Classes button on the View bar). Select the Classes tab, select the Class(es) you want to change and click Edit to open the Edit Class(es) dialog box. There you'll see the Fill and Pen settings for the class. Be sure that 'Use at Creation' is selected if you want that class to always use those properties. Setting Class Properties : Vw2015 Online Help 2: Once you've properly set the Class properties, click on the little triangle at the bottom of the Attributes palette to open the 'Utility Menu', and select 'Use Default Attributes'. This resets the Attributes palette Fill and Pen settings back to default, in case they're messed up. (Note that the Attributes Utility Menu only appears on a Vw Design Series product like Architect, Spotlight or Landmark). The Attributes Palette : Vw2015 Online Help 3: Assuming that you're not using a Text Style for the Dimensions that have a background fill, look to see which Class those Dimensions are on as the dimensions may be getting the fill from their Class. If you're using a Text Style for the Dimensions, edit the Text Style to control the background fill behind the text. Using Text Styles : Vw2015 Online Help HTH. It would also be helpful if you edit your signature similar to mine with your relevant info. Go to 'My Stuff > Edit Profile' at the top of this page.
  17. From this other thread about El Capitan: And a few posts later, also from JimW: Yes, very much so. 10.11 doesn't really have any "I MUST HAVE IT!" features for me, so I would completely agree on holding off until 10.11.1 or 10.11.2. Personally I'm sticking with 10.10.5 for now. So even though Vw2016 SP1 is said to be compatible with 10.11 El Capitan, as there are other reported issues with EC itself and there is no 'Must Have' feature, I personally would wait until at least 10.11.1 or 10.11.2 as JimW advises.
  18. So if you are making a Marionette object that ultimately lives on a 1:48 Floor Plan Design Layer, for example, would you need to insert a 'Set Layer' node somewhere inside the Marionette network? Does it matter whether it is at the beginning or the end? Thanks.
  19. Thanks JimW. Along with twk's PDF this will be very useful.
  20. @barkest: Would you be willing to share a little more about the workflow you're using regarding mapping in Vw? Thanks. EDIT: I saw that you gave some hints about your in-progress mapping workflow in this other thread.
  21. @JimW: It is good to hear that you feel the texturing issues of the Cabinets, Doors, Framing members, etc can be fixed without UVs. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I really do appreciate the honesty and candor that you always express on these forums. I know many other software companies would not be so forthcoming. I definitely understand that Vectorworks, Inc. needs to prioritize future development of Vw in directions that best serve all Vw users. I have never thought that Vw should try to be an all-in-one software package, because when you try to do everything you usually end up doing a lot of things not very well. And none of us want that. I did not expect that Vw would provide full-on UV mapping with mesh unwrapping and everything else that is much better accomplished by third-party UV texturing software. I was only hoping for the level of texturing that is possible in SketchUp, for example, where you can have different textures on the sides of a simple box object without having to first extract each face. Per-face texture mapping. Whether that technically requires UVs or not, doesn't really matter. I was only asking that we be able to texture objects without having to break their functionality.
  22. That's really disappointing to hear, especially since UV texture mapping has been a wishlist item on these forums for over 10 years. I hope that there is another solution in the works to fix all of the other mapping issues, beyond just Subdivison objects, because saying that you'll rely on better Cinema4D integration really limits the usefulness of Subdivison objects if they can't receive a texture. I find it hard to accept that I would need to buy Cinema4D (minimum $995 USD) just so I can properly texture the Cabinet PIO (or Door, Subdivision, Framing member, etc).
  23. I think it's already been wishlisted by JimW himself, but this is why it would be good to be able to convert any object into a Subdivision object. You could start with the basic shape of the chair using the push-pull tool, and then Subdivide it repeatedly until you get the proper smoothness.
  24. @jonathan.etchells: Back to your original question, I think the issue is that 'Rotate Plan' function is not included in Fundamentals. (My other solution to your question would be to use Design Layer viewports, but that's also not included in Fundamentals...) I think the only what to do what you're asking in Fundamentals, is to make a copy of everything on your floor plan layer, group it, and move that group to your elevation layer and rotate it around the elevations as required. Whenever you make plan changes, you'll have to redo this as the group won't be a "live" link. There used to be a 3rd party plugin from Vectorbits called 'Rotate Drawing', but it hasn't been updated since there is no need for it now that it's included in Vw (...except for Fundamentals). You can still download an old (Vw11.5.1) version of the plugin from the following link. Chances are good it may not even work, but it's worth a shot. Rotate Drawing 11.5.1 - Vectorbits
