  1. As "Edit Section in place" is quite new in VW, most of us are usually used to totally different workflows. E.g. I originally came from a totally 3D CAD workflow with Microstation where I was used to always work with 4 View Panes Top/Front/Left/Perspective. When I switched to VW it only had a single VP but I could switch easily between different Views by NumPad. So now that VW offers multiple View Panes since a few years I still find working in a single full screen View more attractive and did not adapt to VW's multiple View Panes still. Basically I model 90% or more of the time just in a single Isometric or Perspective View Window only ! With the trustful Layer Plane (kind of UCS) or Automatic Plane (kind of dynamic UCS) I have full control where I will snap and draw things. While VW PlugIn/BIM Tools like Walls or Windows may use Styles that are defined to restrict to certain Story/Story Level Z heights automatically. So as said, in VW you can enter a Viewport of a Section and directly move some Doors or Walls or even rotate in a 3D View from there as if you would be in a 3D View - but most of us do not need to. We have in VW cascading Visibility Control by "Layers AND Classes" (e.g. just show all Door Objects, controlled by Class vs just show all Elements but on 1st Story only, by Layer) Or Clip Cube to isolate a specific part of a complex building to keep overview. VW is kind of a 2.5D App (like Archicad too) where 80% of Architecture creation and control, as in reality, just happens in and from Top Plan View. Once used to VW's workflow concept, you will feel very comfortable and very fast. Sometimes terrible restricted, sometimes more free or sketchy than in other Apps. Plus You have one of the most advanced advanced solutions in 2D Layout and Design control to generate or draw visual attractive Plans and PDFs.
  2. Is it still VW 2021 or already VW 2022 ? As I had a similar issues with the Railing/Fence Tool in VW 2020. (Both Stairs/Railings from the same developers) I also had Z shifts and I also copied them in a 3D Iso View. But for me it looked like the copies were just placed on a kind of virtual Screen Aligned Plane over my Isometric View. (I copied on the same Layer only !) It worked well when I did my Copies only in 2D Top Plan View. Have not seen issues dublicating things like Walls, in Iso, over different Stories though. And as VW 2022 now got (virtually) rid of Screen Plane by default now, I thought it might be a revenge from the angry Screen Plane.
  3. Yes, I also first thought about that nice Fog and Bloom in Eevee. But Camera Exposure is a great feature for me. I hope that setting translates to different Saved View Setups. And a Eevee-like nearly real time screen space GI would be the killer.
  4. Ahm, what's wrong with re-activating the 2D legacy option for new files, or just go on using Screen Plane for all files that already contain screen plane assigned objects ? The new VW 2022 pink "screen plane" is just a temporary drawing aid as it is now..

    VWX 2022

My experience since VW 2021 was that SP 0-1 was more stable and issues free than any SP's that became behind 🙂 For me personally, VW 2022, of all the 8 Upgrades i could experience, VW 2022 is by far the most impressing. Kind of OSX Snow Leopard release, officially "no" new features but just cleaning things up and optimizing. (Regarding that all even number VW upgrades were quite boring, opposed to uneven numbers) I would have been fine with only an Apple ARM native and optimized VW App. Which seems to worked very well. (At the same time going DircetX for Windows was a nice effective bonus) Or just that Screen Plane is finally dead (sort of) I just can't profit from it for now as my current Project was already infected by 2D Legacy Virus again and already contains some Screen Plane Trojans. But Screen Plane deprecation by itself would be also enough to justify the Upgrade. Or just that Walls (and Windows/Curtain Wall/Column) Geometry is now true Solids, will help my DWG exports immensely. Can't wait to finally see problematic Slab Geometry upgraded too. Or Stairs ? .. ahm ... but don't postulate irrealistic to much .... WinDoor Helps much too. So I am really happy
  6. Bruce, I cannot see any case where anyone would want a worksheet to display in a 3D Perspective 🙂 (In a way that the way to display counteracts the rest of a 3D View) VW is a 2D/3D CAD Tool - not a Compositing Software where you overlay Titels and all sort of more ore less 2D Stuff above a Video. But if there is a need, like you have, reactivate Screen Plane by 2D legacy Mode in File Settings for your Templates. All Files already containing Objects aligned to screen plane, will automatically have screen plane available. I think it is legacy and hidden but still available to not take these 2D Workflows away completely. I am sure it will be available for further decades, like the old Stair Tool and such.
  7. I have a Windows 11 PC too. But also do not really know how to make a screenshot on Windows. On Mac there are the mentioned short cuts, I read about them everywhere but can't remember them. For Mac I bought a nice App that allows me to set Projects that I can use from a list from Macs top Menu Bar. Each has its own custom file type, file path, screenshot type and auto naming options setup .... So on Windows, I would look for something similar in Windows Store. EDIT, Now that you said, AFAIR I use a Windows built in App for Screen Shots (and similar task options ?) but I can't remember its name and do not want to boot into Windows now. (something like "Ausschneiden" in my German language setting ?) It also does most basic screenshot things. At least the marque frame option, which I use 99% only.
  8. You can find regular elements by custom search. But usually many screen plane objects are hidden inside Symbols or Groups (?). You would have to open and examine objects in each Symbol. I gave up on client's referenced files that drive my own master file as 2D legacy mandatory ....
  9. Reminds me of my IFC Exports where parts of the Windows (Sashes?) came out rotated 90° in 3D Geometry. (I thought I read it was fixed with VW 2022 SP 2.1 - but did not test so far) I assumed that this happened because of deprecation of screen plane with VW 2022 - but not all hidden screen plane legacies found in PIOs etc. converted correctly already. But that is just my assumption.
  10. Does this still happen in VW 2022 SP3 ? I was used to have that in the past (starting with SP2 ?) but did not work or test on it since .... (Jambs where in place but Sashes rotated outwards to Layer Plane orientation. I think this is a side effect of trying to get rid of Screen Plane attempts in VW 2022, which I highly welcome BTW) And BTW, when trying to play with Texture scale and orientation in Twinmotion, suddenly VW's rounded Walls switched Axes and rotated around.
  11. For me these also work pretty well - as long as inside VW. (And used in Layer Plane Orientation only !) You keep all 2D comfort Tools. I use them a lot! E.g. for ribbon/band (?) windows : (I do not use the curtain wall tool, as being slow, clumsy, ... and I do not like to insert "Walls" into Walls ...) I use a Standard VW Window over the whole size/width and add the Posts by an Extrude of multiple Rectangles. You can easily copy them from Story to Story. They can cover all Facades at once. They can be easily aligned to building grid Array/Align/Modify the posts easily in 2D in Edit Mode. You can basically array them over the whole grid and they will mostly only be visible where needed, in the Openings of the Windows .... And they are treated as a single Object (Solid) The bad side, Solids that contain more than a single Volume, like independent Volumes, which you can easily get in VW by other operations too, do not correctly export to DWG and will come in as silly non welded 3D Faces. No problem for the CW Posts example, as these are all separate and do not touch each other - this way you can easily stitch them in DWG later. BTW Something which is not possible when you e.g. have (full length) corner Windows in Mitered Walls connections - and Walls end up in 2 separate Volumes, touching the other Walls separate Volumes .... So the inability of VW, to export Solids containing independent Volumes to DWG, which also knows such "multi"-Solids, and has even tools to separate them if needed, is a great DWG exchange problem for me in general. (Beside not exporting Materials !!!) And the other bad side, I think what @Jesse Cogswell meant, if you create such Extrudes - containing multiple 2D objects in a XZ or YZ orientation, they will go crazy in Edit Mode pretty easily and fast. And generally, best to do not even try to move, copy or rotate or never even mirror them !!!11!
  12. Hello, VW doesn't keep the last screen size when I open it. No matter how I save palette position or try to resize by dragging. It looks like a 4/3 aspect ratio. VW Window sits on the left side and uses max Screen Height from Dock to menu Bar as it should. I have to ALT+green light after each start to make it use the whole screen width again. This was ok as long as I had my 30" Cinema Display with 2560x1600. And it started since I have my Wacom Cintiq Wide Screen 2560x1440. Is there any setting that went corrupt which I could repair to make VW save my Window size again ?
  13. Isn't Rotate Plan quite error prone ? I would have thought the advice would be to georeference the whole file and geometry and set a correct north deviation angle ... At least I was successful when I tried last time in VW. Geolocalization center to my building grid start axes crossing and north angle offset to have my building parallel to XY. That setup even worked well after I exported to DWG. I thought I should use Plan Rotation (in combination with a custom user coordinate system/working plane) carefully only if my own building includes some angled blocks. (Then it is very wise to switch angles by Saved Views only ....)
  14. Definitely. But I am not sure about the previous "ignore layers of other scale" setting which went out of the Unified View Settings in VW 2023. AFAIR I have seen that one time in VW Preferences (or File Preferences) but did not find it later again and AFAIK it was ON by default (*). If it is VW 2023, and it is about a migrated file from a previous VW Version. a) if that File had any "legacy 2D" specific settings like Unified View set OFF (For whatever people needed this) or Screenplane only, in VW 2023 the "2D legacy" Setting in VW 2023 Document Settings will be set to ON automatically, to make the File look as in the previous Version. Which means that you can access the old Unified View Setting from Top Bar. But AFAIK it is not shown automatically anyway. You need to make the Icon Visible from that little Arrow on the right, to show it in your Top Bar for access. b) if a current or migrated File in VW 2023 had no "legacy 2D" settings in it, "2D legacy" setting in Document Settings is OFF and there is no access to legacy things like Screen Plane or Unified View .... In this case you can't even activate the Unified View Icon in Top Bar. It is hidden. You could only access it by activating "2D legacy" features in Document Settings first. (*) Not sure but AFAIK, using different scales for your Layers would cause problems when rotating your View in 3D. Not sure if that default "ignore Layers of different scale" ON is intended or already changed or just came from my file template .... (BTW, who ever wants or needs Layers of different Scale ? For Details ? I personally would not mind if there is only a global Scale for all Layers at a time)
  15. If that works, it is all fine. Unfortunately, starting with VW 2014, until at least VW 2021, my experience was that there came new features that were nice to have although not ready (e.g. Structural Members), together with longstanding questionable existing design decisions (Stories+Levels, open Polylines with a Fill !?, ...) and real Bugs (VW Cameras losing their location) that nevertheless would not have fixed or improved over these 8 years. So why should that change now and only by subscription ? Only VW 2022 and following, so far, showed a willingness to fix some legacy tool designs (screen plane and such), improve legacy roots fundamentally (Apple ARM and DirectX) or now in VW 2023 (vertical faces, overlapping and touching Modifiers in DTMs, ...) In my opinion not really related to subscription or any other license issues .... could have happened since VW 9 or so.
  16. It is hidden by default from top bar. But you can reactivate it from the top bar's drop down. Unified View's sub options are now simplified though. If you really need full Unified View Settings and Screen Plane, you should activate "2D legacy Mode" in Document Settings. If you open any Document that still contains such 2D legacy settings, the "2D legacy Mode" will be activated by default and Screen Plane and Unified View are available.
  17. Have that too .... Hope it will be fixed in SP3. I assume, this is related to the changes of deprecating Screen Plane and the attempt to bring everything to a standard Layer Plane. Maybe some hardcoded legacy stuff in some PIOs will take revenge here ....
  18. No that you said. It is just that I have a modified Basic Tool Bar in my Workspace. Everything reordered and it also contains all 3D Tools that I need. It is docked at the bottom and spans the whole screen. So this is also what I get in SOD. But as everything is also easily available from the Bottom of my Screen .... I rarely use the SOD 🙂 (Although I use the QUAD in Bricscad all the time. But this is highly context sensitive, contains last used Commands, Commands that make most sense in context plus includes 6 bottom Tabs that will include 10-30 more exotic but necessary Tool Icons. Also there would be an AI option, if you send usage data, which would optimize Tool presentation to your personal needs and workflows over time. But I have not tried that so far)

    VWX 2022

And what about Screen Plane Objects in Referenced Files ? Will they also count for the File as being cached ? Or can I even create any DLVP crops - without adding a Screen Plane Object ?
  20. You can re-activate screen plane by 2D legacy mode options in "Document" Settings. And AFAIK it is still available automatically for Files that still contain Objects set to Screen Plane. I use Move by Points Tool and "T" key to lock to an Axis. As long as I am able to find an area free of objects, otherwise, when you hover over any object, "T" will not lock, it works most reliable of all workarounds for me. It doesn't even need an Orthogonal Side View. As it work as well in any 3D or Perspective.
  21. You can activate "2d Legacy Mode" in your File Settings. This will bring back all older options. Also, if you will migrate a File that had custom Unified View Settings, "2D legacy" will be activated already for that File. In VW 2022 It is mainly about "Screen Plane" deprecated and hidden and Unified View now always enabled. AFAIR, some of the Unified View Sub Settings went into File Settings, at a different Tab outside of 2D Legacy or double clicking on Unified View Button, though.

    Legacy 2D features

To be clear, I don't disagree that some projects still work better in 2D only. What I do not get is : - why to use different Layer scales in a drawing window. (It is always drawn in real world units anyway. Layer Scale is just WYSIWYG to estimate your annotation and text sizes while drawing) - why to show different Layer Scales at a time in drawing view - why using screen plane - for me 2D is just always seen as in XY plane only But just that I don't get it - doesn't mean it may not make sense. And I just don't have the experience, especially for the telecommunication site, if overall, a 3D BIM Approach could be still worth though or not at all. Because of BIM being less error prone to follow with all plans for changes. Getting Calculations and the Plan, Elevation and Section plans part mostly generated after each change cycle.
  23. Same for me. AFAIR, for Extrudes containing more than a single 2D Object, you shouldn't even rotate or move them ! I think the problem is that VW once decided, that nearly all object types with edit modes have to have their own internal origin (?) and plane orientation, just like Symbol do (which makes sense there) Once you move, mirror or rotate these objects (sometimes even nested) around, even VW itself sometimes gets confused and loses overview between all its nested Container Object's planes and how to interact between. How to deal with various object types 2D/3D orientations inside or how to deal with the Environment geometries outside of the Edit Mode bubble, like for snapping.
  24. think the keynote could have been much worse ..... Even the new prices of the Mac Studio here a quite steep. I do not get the Mac Pro price vs Studio too. Or the SSD/RAM upgrade prices. Presentation time for our most interest of Mx Hardware felt like 30 seconds vs hours for "important" features like "Stickers" and such. (Weren't "Live Photos" in the past already embarrassing enough ?) A usable base config for a 3D/CAD Mac Pro would be 9000-10000 € here. But it misses the main feature, easy and reasonble priced SoC/logic board upgradability. No GPU insertion cards, not even from Apple, no "swap RAM" extension slots, .... While Mac Studio is still somehow a stop gab Trash Can. Far away from the "Workstation" cheese graters many of us may wished to invest larger amount of money. And with AR and real time rendering, most think that M2 architecture is still even more a stop gap than just performance wise and expect to M3 finally getting RT accelerators, which should come a year later anyway. So better go with a price reduced M1 Studio as another stop gap machine, wait for a 27" iMac M2 Max, to get at least a screen and some input devices ? Wait another full year (I basically wait since 2012) for M3 ?
  25. While VW 2022 (Native Apple ARM, Walls Solid, Screen Plane deprecated, ....) personally and subjective was absolutely my greatest update. As for the first time it reworked some of my Vw 2014 critics ..... There were also again lots of new features, but I avoid to critize them as I can't help myself to like it. OK, meanwhile we seem have a different reliability cycle. While in the past SP0-1 was beta-ish in the past, in current years we had reliable SP 0s but SP1-3 (at least) had more or less severe issues. So basically moved the "recommended upgrade datum" from February to August. Which is about 6 weeks before the next version release 🙂 So if an uneven VW 2023 will be even more impressing than an even VW 2022 again, I'm all in .....
