Don Seidel
Well ! Finally the VW Mac rendering world takes a leap forward! Many thanks to the VW Team for this great mid-cycle bonus ! The Datasmith export/import to TM is very clean. Our models come in just as we see them in VW. The re-import update in TM for changed VW models so far is flawless and extremely fast. Even better, texture changes made to your model in TM remain so. just short of the live link method, this is still a massive leap in realistic render workflow. Now If we could get VW lights to come into TM.... 3 Quote Link to comment
Mauro Pujia
Hey Don! Where's the export TM command? Can't find it on the Export Menu. I've heard something about a plug-in or so, but can't find it on the internet neither. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
If something went wrong or you use a custom Workspace, you may need to manually add it to your Workspace by (on Mac) Menu > Tools > Workspaces > Edit current Workspace : Menus and search it on the left list under Files : and darg it to your "Files > Import" on the right side. Should be "Export Unreal Datasmith (3D only) right?" Quote Link to comment

zoomer
You do changes in VW Model, you export the Model by Datasmith Export again, overwrite the previous datasmith file. Go to Twinmotion with you file, but in import window you don't click on the plus sign as with initial import, but on the small "Update" icon. In the best case, this will update your changes but keep your changes done in TM. Haven't tested this so far. (strange results when updating FBX imports some while ago, but maybe already fixed) Edited March 23, 2021 by zoomer 1 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted March 31, 2021 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 31, 2021 Twinmotion 2021.1 shipped yesterday, it has some fixes that will help the usage with Vectorworks, you can use collapse by material on import now, no more shading problems with bump maps, no more fireflies with reflective textures. The cloud presenter feature is super interesting to me. Get the Update with Epic Game Launcher. 2 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Luis M Ruiz Posted March 31, 2021 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 31, 2021 Here is a sample of my updated Cloud Presentation for our "VWX Store". One portion shows linked panoramas and the other one is a nice tour of the place including TM animations. Let me know what you think.https://beta.vcs.vectorworks.net/presentations/11e8df8e1bed1a3eabe812a7723e44fa/ 3 Quote Link to comment
Kevin Allen
pretty sweet. What rear are you using? As I see it thus far, a mouse is required for Twinmotion? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Luis M Ruiz Posted March 31, 2021 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 31, 2021 Navigating in TM needs you to use a combination of keys for movements and the right click of the mouse. I managed to connect my 3dconnexion navigation but only for replacing the keyboard. Navigation in TM feels a lot like a video game. Quote Link to comment
Kevin Allen
I'm not a gamer. I tend to only use my trackpad. I have been considering a 3D mouse, but and this is only what I've found so far, I think the middle mouse button is needed for some basic rotational navigation. I think I might need a basic mouse. The three finger swipe does not seem to substitute in TM Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Popular Post Luis M Ruiz Posted March 31, 2021 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2021 I could not resist taking our Store model and adding some sound effects to the final animation. This is fun. Now I am curious to see your own projects. Roll out at vwx Store.mp4 5 Quote Link to comment

AlanW
@Luis M RuizHi, nice work. Have been using TM 2020.2 for while and using a Samsumg Galaxy VR headset which works amazing well. Interested as to how you set up the 3d spin around?? Have a lot of work but cant show as work related. Thanks. Great program and loving it with VW. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Luis M Ruiz Posted April 1, 2021 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted April 1, 2021 The 3d spin around? I assume you mean our 360 panorama? if so, then the steps are fairly simple: Place your view at the spot and height you need to view the room > then Export Panorama > set your render mode, resolution, processing location (your computer or cloud) and place to save the final file. Click export. Quote Link to comment
Mauro Pujia
Hi everyone! What's the workflow you use when importing VW model to Twinmotion for texturing, lighting and final rendering? I've been thinking that a good idea is to export everything with dummy textures easy to find in TM, since I do all of them there. Didn't consider lighting that much since all of my stills are with day light, but also another feature to keep in mind. Still trying and playing with different options. Open to hear how you do it! zoomer
I was pretty happy with C4D export in the past. Now with new Datasmith export it could be even better. I have not yet enough experience though. I only see that the same project's TM files get larger and did not run that smooth on my M1 Mac Mini as my older C4D exports did. But also first need more experience with newest TM 2021. Yes, I would also use at least VW dummy Materials. So you already have Material assignments and can easily overwrite those materials with TM materials. And maybe VW Materials may be already sufficient for most secondary simple Materials and you only have to overwrite and care about most important, Glasses, Metals and Woods ... 1 Quote Link to comment
