Snapping to the internal origin / axes

Why is it you can snap to the internal origin in top/plan view but not in any other view (it even gives you the tooltip in top/plan)? This seem like a huge oversight that should be corrected. Why do I have to resort to creating a reference object (i.e.. a 3d locus) to do this?

And why can't I have the axes visible without turning on the grid?

There should be a move to ground plane command too. Ironically every cheap piece of 3d printing software has this - move to build plate....

Ditto for insertion point in 3D symbols. I can't always snap to it so I have to drop in a 3D locus.

for insertion point snapping be sure that the following is selected:

Tools>Smart Cursor Settings>Object>Insertion Point

Even with that snap setting on it often doesn't snap to the insertion point when in views other than Top/Plan :-/

+1 from me too. I regularly need to set out other objects relative to an insertion point of another object, whether it be 2D or 3D

This might be related - When paste an object from clipboard to a snap point, it often misses, esp if the drawing origin is the snap point. The red acquisition square appears, snap then paste, only to find that the pasted object is not centered on the snap point.
