AutoCAD symbols generated on layer 0 and set to use bylayer etc. as property will always take on the assigned layer properties and change accordingly when you assign the symbol to a new layer.
Vectorworks is a bit more limited in this aspect and I would like it to replicate this behaviour in AutoCAD that when I create a symbol that it is possible to set it such that it will always take the properties of the class it is residing in when an attribute is set to by class.
Currently it seems that it can either take class properties upon insertion into a class or as class properties by the class assigned in the symbol upon creation but when a symbol is reassigned to a different class the old class properties stick and do not take the properties of the newly assigned class unless I update the symbol itself.
Especially when you have the same symbol used in multiple classes and want to able to differentiate them by e.g. line colour of the class it is annoying to have to create multiple instances of the same symbol to solve this.
