Missing wall components

LeeElston

Question

I have a wall, with render settings set as 'by component', but for sections of the wall the inner leaf and insulation components abruptly stop displaying, whilst the outer leaf and plaster components show as normal. The wrapping around the windows in the relevant lengths of wall are also showing as normal. Screenshots attached. Any ideas what is causing this?

TIA

Can you post the file? Or a version with just that wall in it + everything else stripped out? If you delete the window what happens? If you turn off the wall closures on the window what happens? If you draw a selection marquee around the missing components is anything selected? If you reset the wall + the window by moving them each 0,0 does anything happen?

@Tom W. I have cut and pasted the wall nto a clean file and it appears fine. Adjacent windows do not cause the same issue...If I delete the window the wall draws as normal. The components are highlighted when the wall is selected but a marquee doesn't find any other elements. Moving (0,0) has no effect. I think you're suggestion it is related to the windows is correct. I attach screenshots of wall closure settings which look ok to me... the one thing I have noticed though is that all of the other windows, which appear correctly, have the 'Wall Closure' tab in the OIP of the 'Window in Wall' object greyed, whilst the affected windows can be adjusted...I can't seem to find a setting in the 'window settings' to reset this

Hi

It wasn't zipped so I tried that as well and got the same message...

Strange!  I just tried uploading a 200+ MB uncompressed Vectorworks file and it worked fine.

If you can share the file some other way (via Drop Box, Google Drive, WeTransfer, etc) feel free to PM me a link.

Over the last couple weeks (maybe since SP6 or SP5) I have been experiencing similar issues in VW2023.

Doors seem to be removing some, but not all, wall components:

In plan view, everything appears as it should ^

The issue sometimes goes away if I edit the PIO without changing anything as a force "reset," however, when I refresh a section viewport, the components once again disappear.

Oddly enough, this type of behaviour has extended to structural elements as well:

In wireframe, they all appear ^

As above with the doors/walls, forcing a "reset" on the PIO by entering the edit style sometimes works, but not always.

Walls also regularly disappear in section viewports and a "reset" is also required of them.

All these "resets" when you have ±40 wall styles takes a considerable amount of time but seems to be the only thing that temporarily "works."

The significantly frustrating part of the above issues is the massive amount of time that now has to be spent fixing viewports to get them anywhere close to being legible and ready for publish. The 3d/modelling aspect of the software has been great. However, when getting the model into the documentation stage and on sheets for publishing, the software is bordering on being completely unreliable and has me contemplating switching back to a 2D workflow where it was at least "what you see is what you get."

Fwiw, the same file has been tested on multiple machines in the office with the same results. I sure hope these issues get addressed asap.

@chrischris, Would it be possible for you to PM (private message) me that file?

Hi<

Has there been any solution to this bug?

I have had what I believe to be a similar issue with a file I am currently working on, it is only a small project but is being a bit tricky to model.

it is single store extension with what could be explain as a stone plinth to about 1m with timber clad wall above up to eves/roof.
I have stacked the walls on top of each other to show what is required n 3D.

image.png.34824a7891002b79816a4e65c831f776.png

The internal wall are then full hight and connected with the top wall to show correctly in plan view.

Now I have started to insert Windoor components with wall closures I am now missing wall components (plasterboard) in this case.

image.thumb.png.d407f527a023031907c6d731d750d01d.png

The door is in the higher wall, which is the wall style that is missing the plasterboard. The missing component has run though into the room to the right as well.

One more thing I have had issues with that I haven't solved yet is the closures in the lower wall. I have a second Windoor object placed in the lower wall that is the same size as the door but it is set as a wall opening uncased.

image.png.4db27b13c5423ab4fd8395e3c2b849e8.png

The external stone has formed a return all be it not to the correct point, but the plasterboard has not formed a return at all.

Can you send me the vectorworks file via private message?

OK, I got you file and will say that VW 2024 Update 2 does fix the disappearing components issue and the wall closure issue you're having in the lower wall seems to be an issue with the WinDoor object when it uses an "Opening" configuration.  Replacing that with the standard US Door object should fix it.

I'm not sure if this has lead to another issue.

I am having trouble to get my roof and walls to clip.image.thumb.png.d52932c2ecc8456a52804e8a6303f187.png

I have tried different combination in the way I have model it and have found a way to get it to work, but this is still not what I want in regards to the model.
Image above I have shown:

- 1 is the model as wanted with the roof associated with the correct walls and roof set to clip walls.

- 2 the wall is the same as 1 with a bottom offset of 950 to allow for a plinth, and this time the roof has staggered its components as i wanted, but it has still not clipped the wall.

- 3 has worked, the only differents is that the wall dose not have the 950 offset to allow for a plinth.

Any ideas on what could sort this?

I assume this is VW2024 but which Update? There was an issue with roof clipping initially that was (partially) remedied in Update 2 but I have not been using VW2024 enough to establish how many issues still remain. Your images suggest things are still far from right... Can you post a file? Also, can you try exporting to VW2023 + seeing how it behaves there?

So I am on the latest VW2024 update that came out on Monday 20th November.

After exporting to VW2023 it was better but I still came up with an issue.image.thumb.png.1625dadfbb5f62de36fda421ff4cf734.png

The image shows that I have been able to clip all the wall with the roofs with 1 last wall to associate with the roof.

When I associate the last wall the following happens.

image.thumb.png.cd55da6971e67f386715b03d13468270.png

The end wall is now the correct shape but all the stepping of the roof components have been lost.

I am using roof faces, and have deleted the offending wall and redrawn it to see if it was an issue with that specific wall.
