  1. I have also noticed some really odd behavior while in Rotated Plan view. But alas not specific enough to pin it down for a proper bug report...
  2. Yes they should be. So does this issue relate to schedules (i.e.: being able to automatically call out R or L)? Or is there a different reason?
  3. Hi bc, this has been requested and discussed a lot. The problem here is that other regions of the world do not necessarily agree with the butt-to-butt definition of swing direction - you say right, I say left, etc.
  4. Hi BC, Opacity is (and always has been) a 2d only feature. So you'll need to use a texture with transparency. Sorry!
  5. I'm curious, do you have the Save VP Cache pref on?? It may have nothing to do with it, but it seems possible...
  6. Totally agree! It has been on my personal wish list for a long long time.
  7. If I understand your question, here is one pretty simple method: 1) Create the original shape (e.g. a closed polyline, etc); 2) Use the Offset Tool in Offset Original Object Mode to create a shape which is larger than the original object by the desired amount; 3) Use the Offset Tool again in the Offset Duplicate Mode so that the new shape is smaller by the same amount (basically you are re-creating the original shape on top of the larger shape); 4) Select the larger shape and then the smaller shape and use the Clip Surface command; 5) Delete the smaller shape that is left over (and still selected); 6) Select the remaining shape, which is a closed double poly, and add fill, color, etc.
  8. You can create a posting in the Positions Offered section: http://www.vectorworks.net/community/jobs
  9. Hi Amelia, In my practice all of those gaps/openings would contain Headers or Beams. I generally use a simple graphic (see attached, from a Roof Framing Plan) to depict them. And yes, I do it in the annotations. For most of my projects (single family dwellings) there are not too many and it doesn't bother me to do these "manually". But it can cause problems when changes are made and then I have to manually chase and re-verify. For me it's all just part of the the job. Although it would be cool if VW's had an automated way to depict these...
  10. Dragging in 3d space, especially in iso or perspective views, is sometimes a wild affair. You might try a) go to a full frontal (or side) view and drag the object while holding the Shift key. Holding the shift key will constrain the movement to vertical or horizontal. Or b) the Move 3d command which allows you to enter exact numbers for X, Y, and Z.
  11. A quick way to find out is to temporarily change the Class Visibility setting to "Active Only", then make that Class the Active Class. After doing that, hit Select All and then Zoom to Objects. Don't forget to change the Class Visibility back to Show/Snap Others when you're done. That can be a confounding thing to deal with if you forget.
  12. More than a few ways to skin some cats ;-)
  13. Well, if you Create Roof, then Ungroup, then Convert to 3d Polys and delete the unneeded ploys, you are left with 4 3d polys. Is that not simple enough??
  14. Hi Ben, If you want more control over graphics and are willing to give up some automation (which could be a big trade off), check out the following two "legacy" tools: 1) The Number Stamp Tool (which creates one of many shapes with ordered numbers or letters in each subsequent insertion; 2) The Leader Line Simple Tool (which draws two line segments, the second of which has an arrowhead). You can add these (or any) tools to your Workspace via the Workspace Editor.
  15. Hi Mike, Not sure exactly what you are seeing(?). The Walkthrough Tool will walk right through walls, so you have to be careful as you navigate. If you are setting up static views you might try using the Renderworks Camera. Check it out and post back with follow up questions. Also, it is generally helpful if you create a signature (in your profile) which lists your Hardware, OS and VW's versions.
  16. I use Design Layers along with Saved Views. Not perfect, but think back and imagine how it works with paper/vellum and pencil!!
  17. I would use a Cased Opening, and then model the doors. After you have them, you can create a Symbol from them, to save and use in future old west sets.
  18. J4, again, without the file it's impossible for me to diagnose, but here are some comments. First, the Send to Surface command is primarily intended to move/place 3d Objects on the the surface of a Site Model. If you are using on a 2d Poly it *might* be causing the results you are seeing... When working with Site Models, the recommended workflow is to use Site Modifiers (including Pads, Texture Beds, etc) to depict the 3d areas. You can also use Hybrid Objects (like Floors and Roof Faces, e.g.) which have the ability to show 2d Attributes like fills and hatches in 2d (top/plan) view and 3d Attributes like textures and colors in 3d views... Feel free to PM (private message) me via this forum. Perhaps you can attach the file?
  19. Not seeing your file, I'm only guessing. But the first thing I would check is the Hatch itself, to see if it has "Background Fill". If it doesn't, then you can see right through it. So, in the Resource Browser, select the Active File in the Files Pulldown, then locate the Hatch, then Option Click on the Hatch and the Edit Hatch window will open. Check to see if Background Fill is checked. If not, Check it.
  20. And, are there objects that are assigned "None" for Fill (in the Attributes Palette)?
  21. Bruce, try this: Set Background Render Mode to FQRW (or even Open GL), and set Foreground Render Mode to Hidden Line. Then click on Foreground Render Settings (in the OIP) and choose "Sketch Hidden Line Results". Set the desired Sketch Style. Voila!
  22. Hi JW, when you go to Top/Plan and look at the Proposed Contours, do they show as true curves?? I'm curious and don't have time to experiment until later.
  23. Oh yeah. Sorry. I believe (but not sure) that is how it's designed (which is basically wrong!). Perhaps you/we need to start with a very finely segmented poly to mimic a curve. And yes this has annoyed me a lot, but like so many imperfect things in VW's and in life, I try not to let it ruin my day... Not always successfully, but at least I try ;-)
  24. Not sure about the tool in that mode. But in case you didn't know, you can draw a Polyline with the polyline tool (or any shape) and then use the command: Objects from Shapes. This command can be very handy for many things, including site modifiers.
