  1. You let them press the button??? how refreshing.
  2. Yes, September. Take your leave when you want, it's never wise to install software when it is first released. I have typically stayed 1 year behind for stability.
  3. For Backing Up…. set your backups to save by # of actions, not minutes. Create a backup folder on your desktop and tell VWX to save the files there. Don’t turn off the auto save reminder, you get used to dismissing it and it is a good reminder that things are working. For Storing Working Files Always save locally unless you have an iT department supporting you or understand your storage and networking solution. Sync your local files to online services for an offsite backup and sharing files with others. if you have a Mac, iCloud is pretty good for small practices, Dropbox and similar are generally better though when you need more functionality or are on a PC.
  4. So that means we have to scan twice with two different apps if we want a textured model?
  5. Looks like you are missing a digit or two on that retainer 😉
  6. post a file and someone will dissect it for you.
  7. Hey Gareth, Im assuming your surface was originally a Vectorworks site model. If that is the case, you can ungroup it within Vectorworks and clean it up prior to exporting to .DXF. That should get you where you need to be without any additional software. If it wasn’t a site model, what type of native Vectorworks geometry did you create? That will reveal how to proceed. hope it helps, Jeff
  8. @inikolova I think a lot of us would appreciate the ability to have both the .usdz and .obj from a single scan. Textured .obj models are great as a documentation tool since you essentially have a 360 degree photo of the spaces compared to the untextured .usdz. It will stink to used two different apps and scanning twice to get the desired result.
  9. You asked a question about how to manage an aspect of practice, not how to do something in Vectorworks. I guess you have it all figured out, good luck.
  10. It depends on your clients, their goals, and project duration. If your client is evaluating potential projects, why would they want to pay more upfront when the project could go away? From their position, there is no value in paying you for services that may not be needed, such as highly detailed BIM development. If the client is fast tracking a project where hitting a deadline and change management are of critical importance, justification for charging more upfront is easy and using a detailed BIM has many advantages. It sound's like you spending effort following the MacLeamy Curve, which is not how to do it for most projects. Add detail as a project matures, not from the start. When you have well defined prototypes, the detail can be added later easily and without added expense. Every project is different, so your contract can propose a delivery schedule that puts weight on the front end, which then justifies billings hitting earlier. You just have to educate the client that you are providing more service and deliverables earlier than traditional industry practice. If they don't want to buy it, you need to adjust your process to say profitable or work at risk, I choose the former.
  11. Can you post a file with the issue? If not, you need to show the configurations of the attribute panel and the class you are drawing on. Could be something there or Could be you design layer scale
  12. When you insert the door using the method you describe, it's going to use your currently active door style for styling the door. So, before you insert the door, configure one to your liking and the issue is eliminated. If you need to delete a misplaced door, you can right click on the door and select "remove break", which will let you place the door correctly. If you do not know how to style doors, take a look at that first. The default style places all the 3D door geometry on the same class as what the door is placed on, rarely a desired behavior, especially when metal frames and glazing is involved. Best to come up with a classing system for doors and curtain walls prior to proceeding so your glass and frames will match as desired.
  13. Hard to say without seeing a file. Have you tried data visualizations instead of classes to color your walls?
  14. I think you are going to find it necessary. Why did you have to edit the export from Vectorworks?
  15. There is no good way to do this then because many around the globe would be confused by “title” or “heading” as evidenced by the phenomena which inspired this thread. Perhaps the folks in charge should talk to an expert on this UI and translation stuff. That’s what we do for projects we design in other countries 😉
  16. Just pointing out that you are looking at an ancient thread. The program may have changed a little bit in the past 20 years…. Hence why I told you where to find it. Sometimes you should just create a new thread 😉
  17. Shouldn’t you just call it “Subject” or “Topic” if you are trying to eliminate translation errors? “Subject Title” seems repetitive and problematic when translating in different languages.
  18. Replying from the field, so I can’t open your file. Did you connect your pipe to a mainline, valve, and POC?
  19. I made a few posts on this topic a whole back of you search the forum. Basically, using VWX plant objects, you can add both 3D plants and 2D graphics to the plant object and control their display with classes.
  20. If you want to make a site model, the contours need to be "floating" as flattening them will strip the Z value. Post your survey and I can take a look at it and give you some recommendations.
  21. The built in Plant Object Plant Tags are different than plants tagged with Data Tags. Which do you want to use? Sounds like Data Tag if you are putting them in the annotation space of the viewport.
  22. What about QGIS? If you use geographic information, it's a good tool to have if you can afford the purchase price.
  23. I'm not advocating for such practices, just observing and adjusting course accordingly. Keep your slanderous remarks to yourself 🙂
