  1. Do you have another larger spaces called 1? I've found the function returns an array of spaces in that location anywhere vertically in the file.
  2. Until you hit a tool that Is hardcoded to only use the primary units of the file and can't switch to dual.
  3. Given the working file is a complete copy your using say at least 4 times the volume on your server and getting on bandwidth reduction from read or write. Keeping working files on local means a lot less read times. @Benson Shaw if you don’t save your working file how do you get auto save to work?
  4. Also, and it depends on usefulness to you, A reference of the original file can have different units. So our working files remain millimetres we often reference presentations files set to metres so Space objects work well.
  5. Unsure why this setting is still marked slow. Is it really slow? you can set so the snap loupe zoom is independent. I have line thickness on in main view but off in the snap loupe to make the line ends clear.
  6. Agree fully anyone using Project sharing probably worked or still works with Workgroup referencing. We are very much geared to dividing layer (which are free after all) to allow more people to work in files without tripping over each other. Checking out a full layer is faster. as you only need to do it once per layer. Not sure I've seen any advantage all all to per object check outs.
  7. Well this is far more fun than my work around. I'll find uses for this. Wondering out loud if this would make a better texture for glass in drawings and sketch renders.
  8. Trying to use Data Visualisation to show fire rating of a project. It seems like it only works with numeric ranges. Where Australian Fire Rating use a tuple of 3 values (eg 90/60/-) which the system reads as text which also means they won't sort correctly Wondering if anyone has found a work around?
  9. Artistic render works - line and shadow - set line thickness to 0.1 or small as it lets you as you can't set it 0. Is that what you are looking for?
  10. Is it possible to schedule items (symbols, windows, doors, smaller spaces) by what space they are within the boundary or touching the boundary of? The more we get information in models that we want to schedule the more I realise this is the way I want to group them. Doors schedules - what spaces do they service. Bathrooms/Kitchen - modelled in 3D with each fixture a symbol - would love to schedule the fixtures by room. Apartment schedule - how big the balcony, bedroom, kitchen space associated with the apartment space. Yes realise I could have a layer per room but that when seems like double handling would be great if someone has found away to test what space the item is in. edit to note: this is post 777
  11. Do you have a stand with fans built in for cooling? Or does heat not tend to be a problem.
  12. Start simple with one of your existing 2d Project and see how 3D for free you get. A lot of the time a few settings tweaks on layer height and wall height can give you a remarkable amount of model that was always hiding with the workflow you had. Trust the tools Walls, Slabs, Stairs, Windoor can be both a blessing and a curse. the Curse part is they have a time more option than you need so worth creating styles that suits you so not covering the same ground over again then it won't be long till you find something they can't do. Treat 3d like set design... put the effort in to the things you want people to see... Also the camera doesn't see through walls... so for interiors you need to build in your own 4th walls you can remove for some shots.
  13. Transparency works if you don't get to close as you get 2 3D planes a wall thickness apart each with the alpha image of the block. Our local supplier had BIM models of the blocks so no need to self model but also super heavy in the scene.
  14. As it says on the box these can be lengthy multi stage operation so will beach ball numerous times leaving the users in doubt as to when they have truely completed. It would be good if they presented a progress box to know that they had finished.
  15. While everyones reminded of the topic why not swing over to the road and give Viewport Styles a boost see if it can't get promoted to "in Development" https://www.vectorworks.net/en-AU/public-roadmap?url=viewport-styles
  16. The Resource Browser should be active and useable at all times and should break the barriers of modal dialogue boxes. So that resources can be create then used while one of the dialogue boxes is open. Common Usage - Class Creation dialogue. Switching resources like a hatch in Class details dialogue box is slowwww...... often resulting in a beach ball while it collects the options often to find option doesn't exist. We can't create a new hatch from inside this interface but we can't leave the interface open to go and create the resource. To me making the Resource browser itself outside the drawing file modal control would allow us to go to that interface make a resource then come back to set it. Bonus points if the move would also allow us to drag and drop resources into dialogue box settings.
  17. Yes presentation was good, and great to see many pro software niches given visibility.
  18. There are many reasons an automated version of this that allowed the viewports to be linked to a single set of settings would be useful.
  19. Very happy that using a combination of low intensity helodons, horizontal section viewport and an image effect to invert the colours we can now do continual assessment of solar access of every unit in a development. Still tweaking colouring and cut-offs for below the cut panel but still vast speed up of the previous method. Especially seeing we can push one reference file to cloud publish and get on with other things. We still have to do the assessment per unit but does make to easy work out where we pass, fail or somewhere close.
  20. In the early days of minicad it was considered a viable graphic design page layout tool.
  21. Just found out from a recent grad that NSW Government in the area has made available all their point cloud map data for the whole state. Lower res than what we'd get from Drone flight which is both good and bad. Drone flights point clouds in urban areas have been a bit hit and miss you us. They tend to get confused by multiple building close together. It would be good if we could merge several sources. Does anyone know of a way to embellish a point cloud with new photos or footage if you don't have the originals just the point cloud created from them.
  22. This would be useful indeed. Exploded axo's can be set up but are tedious to do. But you are just basically spreading out layer links (design layer viewports) with a lot of trial and error to get the right look a slider while in 3D would be so grand.
  23. The other option is to create an object in that class (say the class name as a piece of text) copying, dragging that in to any file brings all class attributes with it. Make a symbol out of groups of these in your library bring them in as you need. Make the symbol a legend to suit that drawing style drop it inside the viewport and the veiwport will ask if you want to turn on the classes in that legend. Closest workflow I've found to viewport styles so far.
  24. We have a library of single colour gradients in our library for this reason until they stopped playing well with transparency. Also colour as a resource should have alpha as part of of setting. It could be a single resource that combines Image,Colour,Gradient that can then be used in other applicable locations included textures.
