  1. Daryl, I always do my keynoting and callouts on the Sheet layers. That way I can use a variety of view(port)s of a design layer on different Sheets (plans, elevations and sections. . .for example) and control the appropriate notations on the Sheets. Too bad Post Falls is so far away from Idaho Falls. We could start a user group!! Good luck,
  2. Graham, make sure you Offset Duplicates option is turned off in VW Preferences. Then new duplicates are exactly on top of the original; grab it and move it. Alternatively, use Duplicate Array to place multiple duplicates exactly where you want them in relation to the original. Good luck,
  3. With a little more experience, perhaps you'll find the class designations even more useful. When I create a group (or Symbol) that needs to have a truly transparanet Class assignment, I make sure it's set to None. Since this class (by office standard) is always on (every layer view and every viewport), the "enclosed" classes are easily controlled. Good luck,
  4. PIO = Plug-In Objects (or tools, as you called them above) Not to be confused with OIP ? Object Info Pallet Keep tuned in here (the VW boards) for more, exciting acronyms. My favorite being RTFM - Read The Freaking Manual. I'm personally opposed to reading directions beforehand, but Petri really likes this one. Good luck and welcome aboard,
  5. Good point, Pete. I was thrilled when I didn't have to use this workaround in the callouts anymore. And, yes, I do use the pasted CR method in dimensions frequently. . .even in 12.5.1 Would strongly agree that consistent text entry would be valuable. Do you want to post this to the Wish List?
  6. One can also paste a carriage return (CR) into a string of text. Use this procedure: select the text tool and create an entry point somewhere on a sheet; type a CR (only), the cursor will "add" a line; use the Select All command or highlight the CR; Copy; Paste wherever you like. I use this to insert multi-line information in dimensions, title blocks, call-outs, etc. Good luck,

    New Plotter ?

You'll notice from my sig line that we're pretty satisfied with Epson's printers. The quality of the output is flawless, tho somewhat slower than a true plotter. The key for us has been Epson's dealer. They have a number of EpsonPro dealers around the country. . .and ours genuinely knows the real-world demands we make on the printers day in and out. That makes all the difference. Good luck,
  8. Bruce, VW seems to be a little extra sensitive to corrupt font files. I've learned to make sure we're using a true TrueType font, preferably one that either came with the OS or that we purchased ourselves. It seems that IslandMon mentioned a utility to verify font files, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was/is. Good luck,
  9. Leonard, The short answer is yes. A worksheet is created using the then-current Record format and data. If you change the data, the worksheet simply looks for the revised/new data in the format it's expecting, but if you change the format the worksheet has no way to recognize the new data. You've either got to "program" additional columns/rows to look for the newly formatted data, or you've got to create a new worksheet based on the new format that will generate the report you need. Good luck,
  10. TC, the Wall Framer works in the direction of the walls. If you select a wall, you'll notice there's an arrow pointing from one end to the other. . .this will be the direction the Wall Framer works. We use this tool a great deal, but like Katie suggests, it only gets you close. It will NOT substitute for an experienced eye. Good luck,
  11. Dan, You need to add the Export to PDF to your Workspace. Use Workspace Editor. If you're unfamiliar with this process, repost and I'll walk you through it. Good luck,
  12. You definitely have a network/server/permissions issue(s). Once you get the permissions set the way you need them (currently, only the Owner could save changes to an existing file), you'll want to run Disk Utility and perform Verify Permissions then Repair Permissions. Good luck,
  13. Perhaps you could copy (or make a grid layout large enough to cover what you need) the grid modul into the symbol while you're working on it. Then delete it prior to closing the symbol. Otherwise, I firmly agree with Jim. . .symbols are intended to be repeated units that are edited in isolation. Like a mini drawing. Good luck,
  14. Pete, We often point out work that looks good (only) from a galloping horse. The trick is to make sure it's not our own work we're pointing a finger at!! Personally, I think everyone with the slightest inclination should give VW a go. Those with some creativity and drive may find an outlet they haven't otherwise had; those without will quickly learn to appreciate those who make a living in whatever field of design. The caveat that's been mentioned before?code/structural/safety issues from lack of experience or training?aren't really VW related. Those issues remain however a design and/or plan was created. Certainly we all know so-called professionals whose plans are so woefully prepared one wonders how they keep food on the table. Let alone the true DIY'er who can genuinely claim he didn't know. This has been an interesting thread, to say the least. . .but I wonder if part of arch.ken's real question isn't one of his business' focus. Is it in the business of being an architect or in the business of selling software? In any case, good luck to all,
  15. Use two viewports. . .one for each view. You can get the "hand drawn" look by using Hidden Line Render and then setting it to sketch. Good luck,
  16. I think, Larry, the town's name along precluded consideration. . .NNA were concerned about the press release getting misquoted: Corny show and dinner in AZ. Sorry,
  17. And here I thought flashing was thin, galvanized metal installed in such a way as to direct water to the outside of a structure. Silly me.
  18. We use the framing tool extensively, for both roofs and walls. The worksheets are reasonably accurate. . .I might use them to prepare an estimate, but certainly not as a bill of materials. You'll spend a fair amount of time correcting the 3D framed walls, if you choose to use them. The tool is somewhat improved in v12. . .if you don't count the unreliability introduced into the roof framing tool Good luck,
  19. It's possibly (probably?) not a TrueType font, or its been corrupted. Tho a corrupted font will often bring VW down altogether! How does it print?
  20. Joe, You can easily convert hatches into textures. Please see my post at http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthrea...=true#Post65490 There is a great deal of speed to be gained by having your standard hatches in a texture library and then apply them from the Viewport control panel. Good luck,
  21. You probably have Quartz Imaging turned on in your VW preferences. This yeilds a very nice image, but at the expense of the "self-correcting" process you describe. Turn off the option (which I normally do) and you'll have the same thing as 11.5 Good luck,
  22. At the rist of being pedantic, the above is mostly true depending on the graphics card you have installed. "Mostly true" being very close to "mostly dead", something Miracle Max can usually work around but can fool the rest of us mere mortals. Having said that, I like to work in OpenGL because it offloads the rendering work to the graphics card. . .which, even on my very fast dual G5, is faster than the CPUs. Good luck,
  23. Kevin, We've experienced virtually no "hiccups" switching from 12.0.1 to 12.5. You'll want to remember to move your custom defaults and workspaces from the duplicated 12.0.1 folder to the new 12.5 folder. There may be a couple of menu choices (stack layers, align layer views, etc.) that you'll have to remove from your workspace and reinstall. Overall, the upgrade has been a significant improvement. . . in server access, 2D viewing (zooming, panning, etc) and especially workflow. I very much like the quick, intuitive double-click access from the navigation pallet to the underlying controls. There will always be wish-list items, but this version is pretty sleek. Good luck,
  24. It would be good to know your OS & hardware platform. Test whether your server/alias arrangement is the culprit by moving the file to one of the workstations and accessing it there. Otherwise, I'm not much help. All Title Blocks are working smoothly w/12.5 under MacOS 10.4.7
  25. Joe, You can also create textures from hatches. In a blank document, draw a rectangle and place the desired hatch. Export it as a .jpg. Using the Resource Browser menues, import the .jpg into a new texture. Now the hatch/texture can be assigned like any other texture and it will render correctly. We use this method as well as "painting" with hatches in viewports. Since you can assign different textures to a class from the viewport, you can use whatever texture works best for the view you're generating. Good luck,
