  2. When talking to a system integrator, the discuss came up on having a distinction between "Max Power" and "Typical Power" for a Device. When specifying their power needs to the contractor or architect, they are often caught in a discussion about the power that a device needs during startup, or a, for instance LED Panel, which can draw a certain amount of power when in full intensity white (aka "Max Power") and the power that a device needs during normal operation. Would others also see the benefit of distinguishing between "Max" and "Typical" Power? Thanks in advance
  3. Vectorworks has a feature called "automatic working plane", which is what you are seeing in the video when a face highlights in that periwinkle color. When you have a drawing tool active and you hover over a surface, Vectorworks will orientate a temporary working plane and highlight it for drawing on the fly. It's an easy feature to turn on and off with the default hotkey of " \ " aka Backslash, which is why people sometimes deactivate it by accident.
  4. @Jesse Cogswell I also noticed that you can scale an object to a texture. I set the feature size to the width of the texture, 50 inches. Then I applied it and set to UV's. Set the scale 1:1. Then adjust the size of the object to the texture. Granted this is only useful when the object geometry scale is not critical.
  5. Apologies if this was already asked somewhere in the forum. Together with other users, I would find it very helpful, if you could choose the Layout Room & Equipment Rack from a pull down menu. Currently, when the Layout Room and Equipment Rack already exist in 3D space, and you want to assign a CC Device to it, you have to type the name correctly in the "Room" & "Rack" filed in the OIP. It would help if these fields in the OIP would give you the opportunity to choose from the already existing Rooms and/or Racks in the project. Thanks in advance
  6. Texture mapping in Vectorworks isn't the most friendly, even with the newish Surface UV tools. You are mostly correct. When you set up the texture, there is a section of the dialog box marked Size. This refers to the width of the texture. In this case, this wants to be the circumference of the sphere that you've made. If you don't know the exact width of the image, but want to instead specify the height or some other piece of image itself, you can click on the Set By Image button and draw a line over the image and specify what the length of that line. Vectorworks will use that to compute the width/size. However, even if you don't set this, you can still "scale" the texture on an object by object basis (but only symmetrically, you can't stretch the texture or change its aspect ratio). When you apply the texture to an object and open that object's Render tab in the Object Info Palette, you will see a Scale parameter and a slider. You can then change the scale of the texture for that object. This means that you could have one Earth texture, but apply it to different sized globes, though you will need to compute what the scale difference between the object and the texture. There is currently no option to automatically scale the textures to fit the object. A script could be written to do so, and it's a feature on a number of my plug-ins, but the Vectorscript texture commands are pretty limited, and I think it might be too difficult to write a catch-all since there's no way to specify faces of objects in VS. The auto size on my mine are written very specifically to the objects, and they are mostly extruded rectangles, so the computation is dead simple.

  8. On Blender Open Data, M3 Max looks very good. (better than M2 Ultra !) If you can live with a Macbook Pro and a M3 Max. Looks like the MBP M3 Max will be Apples flagship for some time coming ....
  9. Same here. Skipping M3 Studio would be a bummer. Not that I don't think Apple would do so anyway. The last rumor is the iPad event could bring iPad Pro with M4. So if Apple could bring a Studio M4 Ultra at WWDC + a few months until available, I would be fine with that. But beside fulminant M1 (pure) release or maybe if you are a Macbook Pro or Air guy, further M development for me is a disaster like the whole Pro and desktop situation after 2012.
  10. Although I am a novice rendering person in Vectorworks, just enough to understand it, I was curious about the most basic of texture mapping functions. Wrapping a sphere. This seemed so odd. Did a little digging. First of all, used Surface UV's as opposed to Spherical mapping. So, both these spheres have the same texture, same attributes, except the left sphere is larger. The one on the right has the texture accurately mapped. It appears VW's requires either the texture be scaled to the object (feature size), or the object scaled to the texture. Can anyone else shed some light on this. Is there a command I am not seeing?
  11. I'm having a problem with the fixture mode for my BT-Theatre 250 EZs and BTX Saturns The GDTF file works and is present in the vectorworks library, but there are no available fixtures modes to choose from. Which means I can't use them in Vision. Is there Way to solve this or am I looking in the wrong places? If someone could help me out that would be amazing.
  12. Hi I seem to be having the same issue With my BriteQ BT-Theatre 250Z's and BTX Saturns. I've drawn them in vectorworks but when I send It to vision they are gone. The other fixtures (BriteQ BT-Orbit and Prolights LUMIPAR12IP20D) do show up. Please help.
  13. I’ve been waiting on M3 max studio - current talk is apple will skip studio update for m4 - next year!! main reason for wanting m3 over m2 is the hardware raytracing - and possibility of even greater rendering speed…now im just in limbo waiting for the cpu Ive been waiting to be made available to the mini/studio.😞😞
  14. Would love to see some timings for an M3 - anyone got one??
  15. YES!! I use tab to change from adobe softwares (photoshop, indesign) to VW and that's when it crashes. This behaviour I try to avoid because I know it will crush but sometimes it also crashes while doing random stuff. Got a new MacBook Air m3 with 16gb ram and 512gb.
  16. hi there! just want to add: I bought 2 days ago MacBook Air m3 16gb ram and 512 gb. Installed latest version of VW 2024 and system update for Sonoma 14.4.1. It just sucks. Im not sure how to deal with this situation because it's crashing every 10-30 minutes. Im not sure if it is Sonoma or VW or both? I was working yesterday only in Indesign and had no problems at all. Hope this can be fixed any time soon, I need to work! Error: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffe001f6b8fdc): DCP PANIC - program_swap: Async Swap request landing on unsupported platform. Force panic - iomfb_mailbox_async(86) program_swap: Async Swap request landing on unsupported platform. Force panic
  17. This is a quick way: set up a Saved View for the first Camera view then another Saved View for the second Camera view + set the view transition duration + motion to whatever you want to get the transition you're looking for. Then it's a case of switching between the Saved Views. You can also do walkthrough animations but I've never done this (+ have heard quite a few complaints about it).
  18. My route to get a coloured symbol and the same colour in the instrument summery is to just edit the colour of the 2D geometry in the resource browser.
  19. Thats sad. Any chances to change the linked viewport of a section viewport? Like making changes on the database? I could not find any databases linked to a sectionviewport?!
  20. Hello, I have a question about moving in VWX that I cannot find an answer to online. I'm trying to simulate a shot so I can have a better design for the said shot. So imagine this: The shot begins as a close-up with a 35mm focal length, then it zooms out and pans out at the same time. So now my camera is 50mm and further downstage. I have created these two cameras in my vwx file. What I want to do now is to be able to see as my view moves from camera1 to camera 2. (Something like changing scenes in ketchup. How when you click on a new scene you can watch as your view goes to that view.) Is there a way to do this on the software? I need a quick way to keep coming and going between the two cams to keep checking my set. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Summer Jobs

Hello! I came here to ask a Vectorworks question and found this exciting forum! I've been looking into internships and temporary jobs for the summer, remote or hybrid/on-site jobs near Irvine. I would love to hear from you if you think we can work together 🙂 I'm a current MFA student in Scenic design at UCI and I've got a BA in architecture. I'm skilled in designing, drafting, illustration, and more. Please feel free to take a look at my website Rojinbolandbakht.com
  22. In other software such as Twinmotion and Blender, the camera has overlay grid and parallelism which help to create better image composition. I wish Vectoworks will add these features in future releases.

  24. Hi @Scott C. Parker Just to piggy back onto this thread. I'm struggling to recreate this. I have the data vis setup the same as in the above file, pointing to the Light Info Record. I can apply the Data Vis to the fixtures and to the old Instrument Summary object fine, but for some reason they are not applying to a Equipment Summary object. Any suggestions where I'm going wrong? Also for the sake of my OCD, is there an option to align all the symbols along a central line instead of left aligned?
  25. One of the benefits for designer vs Architect is (Landmark) It is a huge add to the Package plus 15 volumes for free of Laubwerk plants that costs alone around 2200 Euros beside the price for Landmark itself, The good news now that D5 render will release live sync plugin for Vectorworks, which will be a huge step to Visualize Vectorworks models as stills and animation in perfect way, and the latest news is that there is an agreement that has been signed between Nemetschek and Autodek for interoperability between All softwares from both companies.
  26. Those settings will pull from the value of the Color parameter in the Object Info Palette, not the color in the Attributes pane. Being that the Diablo is a moving light, you likely don't have information in the Color parameter, but I'm betting that you put a gel color in there (like R3310 to get at least close to the color you specified), the pen will change to match. The option that you will want to pull the pen color from the class settings would be to select Object attributes instead of Color field.
  27. I followed the procedure for changing the outline colour of my lighting devices but they remain stubbornly black. Any ideas of where I went wrong? Thank you
