Josh NZ
Has anyone else experienced the following. I have a Render Texture and have applied a surface hatch. Both hatch and render are horizontal lines. In a 3D view they appear fine, however if viewed from left or right the horizontal lines show vertical. At first I though it was the object having different renders on each face, however after creating duplicates and rotating each one, the lines change depending on the angle. Quote Link to comment
Josh NZ
Seems to only happen with Floors. Have tried with extrusions and these work as expected. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Yes I have seen this. It sometimes screws up on the sides of slabs/floors and sometimes on solid subtractions. In those cases I usually either create a second renderworks texture with the hatch rotated 90° or create 3D poly or nurbs surface to cover up the offending geometry. Or, in the case of floors, I use an exterior wall component that drops below the wall "0" to cover up the slab object. hth mk Quote Link to comment
Josh NZ
Yeah thanks that helps for now, I would have thought this would be fixed by now, I have installed SP4 but still occurs. Quote Link to comment
Josh NZ
Is there anyway to know if this is on the list to be fixed? This seems like a fundamental problem. With a whole working drawing for a new building not being able to use the floor and surface hatch function as advertised is going to slow the process down considerably. I have a drawing which features a floor with multiple faces at 0°, 45° and 90° edges. In elevation every face is appearing with different orientation of lines. I know there are work arounds that involve drawing other objects over the top but this seems like something I would have done years ago with old versions not with a 2016 version. rDesign
I assume that you have filed a bug report for this? If the bug report was initially filed on 6/29/2016, then it should still be on the bug list as Service Pack 4 was released on 6/21/2016. This is a glaring problem that definitely needs to be fixed. Josh NZ
Yeah I submitted on the 30th of June. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted July 19, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted July 19, 2016 This is indeed filed as an issue to be fixed, I've added this thread to the case. 1 Quote Link to comment
Jim Smith
In the past I've applied Hatches to a Hidden Line render in the Annotation Layer. Does this technique no longer work? Also I note that in HELP the instructions direct one to : "Select View > Rendering > Line Render Options." I have Renderworks, but I don't have "Line Render Options" . I know this has been discussed, but why do Surface Hatches have to be such an issue? Seems to me Surface Hatches should work in 3D just like they do in 2D without a lot of fuss. Quote Link to comment
Jim Smith
I just checked a VW2014 file & I can add solid fills & Hatches in the Annotation Layer but I can't do this is a VW2016 file. Am I missing something? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted July 26, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted July 26, 2016 I am able to do this in both 2014 and 2016, it should still be possible. Sample file attached. Quote Link to comment
Jim Smith
Sorry I couldn't find the Preference, it's in the Edit Viewport panel & one must check the Display Viewport Cache option... I was just thinking it was me not holding my mouth right - & that's the case! 8-) Quote Link to comment
Josh NZ
I am now using VW2017, still experiencing the same issue. Is this going to be fixed in an update or next version? 2 Quote Link to comment
cberg
I am having the same problem as well. VW 2017 SP4. Grr. Quote Link to comment
lupin
Same problem in 2018, is it fixed in 2019? It makes for annoying 2D annotations over the BIM model in all my viewports. Quote Link to comment
Josh NZ
Wow pretty disappointing, original post was from June 2016. Quote Link to comment
