Bruce Kieffer
Does anyone know how I would get rid of the lines on the Plexiglas in this rendering? It's a viewport with RenderWorks as the background render, and hidden line as the foreground render. Edited August 12, 2009 by Bruce Kieffer Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Bruce If you mean the lines on the edge of the radius, In the viewport OIP>Foreground Render Settings... Enter a value for the smoothing angle. 20 usually does it for me. hth michaelk Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Yes those lines, as well as there is another set running end to end through the holes, and one line going up and down at the center of the piece. I forgot to tell you that I did already set the viewport OIP>Foreground Render Settings to 30 degrees, and this is what I get. I also tried 100 degrees, and the errant lines are still there, but some other component edges disappear. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
It's not a problem with the hidden line rendering, but rather the RenderWorks portion. See the attached rendering with the RenderWorks background turned off. Quote Link to comment
gmm18
is that an extrude? try a floor. not that i know what the problem is... Edited August 12, 2009 by gmm18 Quote Link to comment
michaelk
I think I see the issue. It only shows up in an Artistic Renderworks rendering. How you create the geometry makes a difference. In this example, the piece on the left is a solid subtraction, the piece on the right is a extrude of a clipped surface. hth michaelk Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
There is no way to get rid of the lines in Artistic Renderworks. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
It was not an Artist RenderWorks rendering, it's a viewport rendering. I changed it from an extruded clipped polygon to a solid subtraction and that reduced the number of line, but did not eliminated them. There are still three vertical lines on the edge of the rounded corner of the Plexiglas guard. See the attached file. Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Have you tried to Loft the two plexi profiles ? Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
I just tried the Loft and the lines are still there, even more so. The plexi is 2" wide x 15" long x 1/4" thick and has two 1" rad. rounded corners. The fill is set to none. Edited August 12, 2009 by Bruce Kieffer Quote Link to comment
Gytis
I believe the problem is the fill. Try using the RW texture. It worked no prob for me, though I built the solid from a rectangle with 2 filleted corners and then extruded. Will post image shortly. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Try drawing the 2D shape, convert it to a nurbs surface (menu Model / 3D Power Pack / Create Surface from Curves) and then use the Shell tool (3D Modeling toolset) to give it a thickness. Make sure you give the nurbs surface a fill and then as gytis suggests apply a transparent texture to it. Edited August 12, 2009 by mike m oz Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Can you detail the viewport rendering settings you are using (perhaps a screen shot of the Object Info palette)? I think you may find you need to use a combination of foreground and background rendering settings to achieve the look you want. Creating the object as a solid subtraction (an extruded surface minus the two holes as cylinders) is half the battle. The other lines are part of how Vectorworks sees the object in wireframe. The object will need to have a solid white fill and have a transparent rendering texture assigned to it (ie. glass clear texture). Some rendering modes don't support transparency (ie. Artistic Renderworks). It looks like you have given the object a fill of none as a workaround and now it is rendering as wireframe. The rendering mode you choose for the background rendering settings may want to support "smoothing angle" as well. KM Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Mike, Please back save your file and repost it. I can not open a 2009 file. I have 2008. Thanks Quote Link to comment

Bruce Kieffer
Gytis, Looking good. How do I reduce the reflections in your clear texture? Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Edit the texture and reduce the reflectivity. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Gytis , Got it figured out. I messed with the shader edit settings and it looks pretty good now. Thanks for the help. I wish this stuff was easier! Maybe it's because I don't render Plexiglas often. Edited August 13, 2009 by Bruce Kieffer Quote Link to comment
Gytis
Glad it worked out. It might seem harder from lack of use--I know for myself that when I 'm away from some component of this vast and powerful program it takes a while to get comfy again. Quote Link to comment
