Custom windows not rendering correctly in Shaded view

OK.  I think the problem here is that the Glazing class is set to "by instance" in the style and the instances have it set to the "NonPlot" class.  I edited the style and change the setting to be "by style" (which is already set to use the "Glazing-Clear" class).  After that, the glazing looks correct.

@Matt Panzer  That is insightful - thank you. I don't understand how I copied and pasted those elements in a dummy file, but the "class" jumped from Glazing-Clear to NonPlot. Here is the original file (that deserves more study).

How or why would the class jump from one to another without my input?

Please let me know if you notice this again and if you can come up with a reproducible case.  I some things things here and cannot reproduce it.

Im having the same issue. Setting the texture by class works to fix the problem but this can be problematic in section and isn't clean.

What would be nice for it to look like with different textures for int / ext.

Seems odd that we cant assign different materials to the interior / exterior Sash & Jambs. It would be preferable to have the jamb and sash for interior / exterior on the same class so the section is cleaner & set the appearance by material for those independently using material.

The material is what the jamb or sash is made of and jambs and sashes are not made up of different materials between the interior and exterior sides.  This is why only one material can be used.  It's only the finish that might change between the interior and exterior so this is currently done by choosing a different texture for each side.  Since the door/window cannot have a different texture on different sides of the same object, it creates separate pieces for each texture.  We realize this is not ideal and do want to handle this better in the future.

I have a project made in earlier versions, but I was able to have windows with white interiors and black exteriors by using classes. I'm not sure if this is exactly where the conversation is going or not and I haven't messed with this file lately, so who knows if something would change if I were to shift or edit a window.

Can you try on a copy of the file and see?

Also, do you know if the file you had issues with was originally brought forward in the initial release of VW 2024 or one of the updates?

I can get behind that logic makes a lot of sense. Yeah would be ideal if the section were shown as one piece in that case.

@Matt Panzer    I found the problem returns with these changes or attributes

1. I switched a window unit from a single fixed unit to a custom version with three "columns"
2. In the window style, I had to set the texture on the glazing class to "Glass Clear" instead of Class Texture, even though they are the same texture
3. When I copy the wall from one file to another, sometimes, properties of the Window Style change in the Materials and Classes info box.

Something is still going on here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

@leecalisti There is definitely some voodoo going on in that file, seems to me.

I could not get that styled door to have clear glass.Perhaps someone else had better luck.

The file I attached did work, and I even added another slider door that has the glass a bit darker, just to test things out a bit, but they are all UNSTYLED.

Feel free to make them styled if you wish,  but no guarantees you will be able to modify them to your liking.

But check the settings on those doors and exactly how I configured them. That may be of some help.

Personally...I dont use styled anything for several reasons. Not everyone would agreed with that...but I don't care 🙂

I just make a door or window and simply copy it and change any parameters to my liking and drag them and insert them as needed in the walls. It is pretty quick.

It is more difficult to make global changes to styled doors and windows.

Anyway......mess around with the attached file and see how it goes.

Lee

i understand your desire to use styled items…..when they work as advertised it’s great…

But, I do think there is maybe some bug with 2024 in this case…sort of like the mini-debacle a few weeks ago regarding interior and exterior materials on things like sash,  jambs, etc…which we did sort of solve my using classes for those items as opposed to textures…..I know Matt Panzer said they are working on a fix for that issue.

So….in the meantime I think if you just use unstyled doors and windows, as noted in the file I uploaded…you will be fine u till the issue is resolved.

This is majorly messed up.

What I am seeing is:

1) You can't texture the glazing of a styled Door/Window by class under any circumstances.

2) You can't texture the glazing of the three-sash Custom Window until you give the sash some dims.

Needless to say, export the file to VW2023 + everything works as expected:

Hi @Tom W., Can you please attach your version of that file if you still have it?
