I keep getting this object when I use the symbol insertion tool inside a viewport...

• I open the symbol insertion tool inside of viewport Annotation mode
• the outline of this shape appears at my cursor
• I chose the symbol I want and the outline of that symbol replaces the above.
• I insert the symbol inside a viewport with no issue.
• When I exist viewport annotation, this super large green half oval shape appears.

It is not selectable.

I save, shut down and reopen and it's gone.

What I get when inserting symbols in the annotation space of a VP is that the preview of the selected symbol doesn't display at the cursor pre-insertion. So after clicking twice the symbol displays fine but whilst doing so I have no idea where the insertion point is on the symbol or what the rotation is because I don't have a preview. But it sounds like  for you, aside from the enormous green half-oval, things are behaving normally in this respect at least...?

...unfortunately, I also get the "invisible symbol" guestimation placement protocol in VP edit space.

 

 

Maybe we're not 'supposed to' use symbols inside VP space?

 

I've been using grouped symbols of my material callout data tags in VP space.

This lets me have them all prepped and ready for my materials callout worksheets - but the first ones are always more place holders to bring those pre-set data tags into the space.

 

I also have some planting details that I have saved as symbols.

In March I created bug report VB-185997 about the symbol insertion preview not appearing when inside viewport annotations. (Actually, the preview does exist it's just much much larger than the sheet).

 

Not sure where the green shape could be coming from though...

This makes some sense of not seeing the symbol...

 

I really don't understand this green half oval - which is inserted inside the viewport and yet visible outside of the viewport WITHOUT making the viewport any larger.

 

I'm honestly getting tired of having to restart after every symbol insertion.

You should post a stripped down file exhibiting this behavior.  I have a hunch on what is going on, but would like to verify if it is the case.

Hmmm in my case it seems that the symbol preview is not enlarged just miles off to the side...

The problem is when I save the file and then reopen it goes away.

That's actually the only way to get rid of it as it's not selectable.

Perhaps try toggling the “best performance/best compatibility “ setting in vw preferences? I’ve found this sometimes sort out weird behaviour.

I think this changed in VW2022 now there is just an 'Accelerate Graphics' check box... Does it do the same thing?
