Hey all, My collegues and I have been using VW project sharing for a couple of projects now. We are using VW 2024 (update 5) landmark edition. We have noticed some seemingly random check-outs being required to update some viewports, graphic legends, or worksheets. I've posted an image below that shows me trying to recalculate a graphic legend (highlighted in the lower left hand corner) and a prompt from VW to check out callouts on totally different design layers and sheet layers that have nothing to do with the graphic legend I'm trying to update. This has happened with other instances but this is the latest one that has prompted me to ask about it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Add further columns in 'Navigation - Sheet Layers' Palette
MartynHowes posted a question in Troubleshooting
Hi all, Does anyone know of a way to add a further column to the 'Navigation - Sheet Layers' Palette? I was hoping to display the revision data alongside the sheet number, as it is not immediately obvious what revision status each sheet has without going through settings etc. Many thanks :) -
Publish Order of Sheets - Does not match Sheet Layer order
leecalisti posted a question in Troubleshooting
Vectorworks - Since I started using VW2022, an old problem has crept back into it. When I go to PUBLISH a set of Sheet Layers to a PDF, the PUBLISH window does not retain the order I have set them in the Sheet Layer Window. If I try to sort by Name or Type, it does not reset them in the correct order. On a large set of drawings, this makes it very difficult to reorder the set. What gives? This was corrected in 2020 or 2021. See images below for intended order and order that the PUBLISH window resets them.- 4 replies

I love the functionality of Data Tags, they have completely changed our documentation workflow and data tracking, for the better. That said, I wish there were a few functionality upgrades. I'll post them in separate posts, so for this one...how data tags work on sheet layers in recognizing objects. It is clear that when adding a data tag in Viewport Annotations that it is designed to find the geometric center of the object, which may be fine for small or relatively "square" objects. Where this gets challenging is for objects that often span multiple viewports or asymmetric objects. For example, if you applied a Data Tag to the letter 'C', the Data Tag would be positioned in the void of the letter, not on the edges. The best practical example I have is a trail project where a long, linear trail is broken into several (10-20) different viewports with matchlines. To adequately identify the trail object (a single, closed polygon), the Data Tag tool will only find the object in the viewport that contains the geometric center point...not every viewport where the object is visible. To combat this, you have to break the object into a separate polygons per viewport. This is less than ideal becuase you have to break up geometry that should be simple, which enters opportunity for error in multiple ways. Even then, if multiple competing long, linear objects exist in one viewport, Data Tags defer to stacking order in the Design Layers to select which object to apply a tag to...making application of Data Tags almost impossible. You can use the Select Eligible Objects Mode to place all the Data Tags, but then positioning the leaders/arrows to accurately point to the correct object becomes an exhausting effort. Instead, Data Tags should be designed to recognize the edges and/or the fill of objects, not the geometric center point.

Hi, I'd like to up my game a bit. I'm looking for some advice, tips, recommendations etc on how I can improve my laying out of my drawings. I am not an architect, interior designer I have never received any formal training. However I am conscious that my drawings lack a professional feel to them. Spacing, scales of the viewports, dimensions, text sizes, use of different line types/weights, shadows, annotations and labels (section/elevation markers), generally creating neat and tidy and well proportioned drawings that are pleasant to look at. All the sorts of things a good draftsperson knows about! I design audio visual systems which require me to produce schematics (which I use the excellent VW ConnectCAD for) and they are relatively simple line drawings which I can drop into a Vp and that's about it, but I also need to show equipment positioning in plan, section and elevation along with some detailing. compared to the project architect's drawings mine definitely look amateurish. Are there any good books (remember them?), on-line courses/videos that anyone can recommend? All advice gratefully appreciated, R

To add dimensions in sheet layers, we have to enter into an annotation 'layer' of the individual viewport. Making changes involves a lot of clicking with the mouse. I wish, we could just add the dimensions right there in the sheet without ever leaving the 'top layer'. The dimensions would somehow automatically adjust to the scale of the viewport underneath - and would automatically change when the scale of the viewport is changed and move, when the viewport is moved. And why not?

I have an issue where I import a dwg and it ignores all of the sheets and only imports the design layer. I created the dwg's myself in vectorworks export, and colleagues can reimport the same dwg's and all the sheet layers appear, so the problem is not with the file, but something in my copy of vectorworks. I can only assume that at some point I've changed a setting somewhere, but I can't for the life of me think what it could be? Any ideas? I'm running architect 2019

It would be SO very useful and supportive if it were possible to organise Design Layers, Saved Views, Sheet Layers & Viewports to into sub-folders, showing up kind of 'grouped' in the Navigation Palette. --> Same as you can do with Classes, by simply adding a dash ' - ' in between the words. I have many highly complex VW files, and they are filled with a huge number of Design Layers, Saved Views, Sheet Layers & Viewports. Any input is much appreciated.

A project sharing file had all of the sheet layers disappear, yet in two existing working files the sheet layers were still there. When the project sharing file was opened by a different user to create a working file the sheet layers were missing. Has anyone come across this issue before? We were able to catch the issue early enough to create a new project file from one of the working files with minimal work needing to be redrawn.

Search Sheet Layers by Sheets Title
martinfdc posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Hi, Vectorworks implemented search fields in many places. One of them is the ability to search sheer layers. The only problem is that one can not search a sheet layer by sheet title, one can only search by sheet number. (results only show up if one searches the by the number of a sheet layer) I think it's very important that once can not only search by sheet number but also by Sheet Title! Hope this gets implemented in a future service pack!- 2 replies

A problem with my viewports occurs more and more often, which is that at some point all viewports on all sheet layers in various of my project VW files disintegrate. All viewports had already been previously rendered. This results in all viewports now showing up in Wireframe = none-rendered, whilst still keeping their settings. How st this even possible?

Hi, 2018 keeps driving to a complete unusable halt in my sheet layers after introducing a 3rd or 4th viewport. My drawings are pretty light and are not too complex and only rendering in wireframe (to consider another rendering format is unthinkable) the program then becomes unusable with massive delays, jerky zoom and content disappearing when zoom is halted. The same file in 2017 works fine, is this a known issue with 2018? A quick check on the system shows CPU running @6% and RAM only @ 8gb of 16gb

3DCon Enterprise and Sheet Layers.
zoomer posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
I wish my Enterprise would work the same way in Sheet Layers as it does in Design Layers. 1. I wish my Enterprise 3D Bubble would work in Sheet Layers too, to allow Zooming 2. I wish its 3 save view buttons would allow to switch between DL AND SL Saved Views as it works from VW's Saved Views Drop Down. To easily switch between DLs and SLs.-

Hi everyone. I wonder if the following is a bug. When working on a shared project, despite of diligent save and commit / close and release / refresh usage, we find the following: If someone duplicates a sheet layer, or changes the name of a sheet layer, the project management somehow cannot keep track of this - the sheet layer numbers and names don't match anymore. Please see the screenshot below. The highlighted area indicates where the numbers and names are wrong. It's not in English but one can see the difference. Trying to update, reopen etc. will not solve the issue. This particular project is not using automated title blocks/drawing coordination, but simple hand-written sheet numbers and names. The only thing that puts the project sharing sheet list back on track is temporarily saving the project as .vwx file and the re-sharing it.
