I am trying to export 3D loci to .dwg or dxf (either will do), and no matter what I do the 3D loci do not end up in the .dwg or dxf. The locus are just converted to 3D and all have z = zero as I don't need that data for my end use, and 0 is a valid number (just thinking in case VW is chucking them out like 'junk' DNA). VW Landmark 2018 file encl. along the with latest attempts with .dwg & dxf (from 2012 BricsCAD). Any help appreciated. 244_HEX_3D_loci.vwx 244_HEX_3D_loci.dwg 244_HEX_3D_loci.dxf

Artifact in a viewport, looks like a shadow, but from what?
unearthed posted a question in Troubleshooting
I've got an artifact in a viewport, it looks like a shadow - but from what? • There's nothing above this space to cast a shadow • Nothing in drawing with an opacity setting other than 100% • Viewport has no objects within it • It is not from a 3D object as I've changed all 3D to 2D poly If I zoom right in in sheetspace, it disappears. When I click through into the model, I can't see it at all and can't see what could be generating it. I've drawn a red rectangle and put it on the bottom, and it looks like this artefact is on top I can't load the model up on here client confidentiality. -
When I got my 2018 upgrade I forgot there was an option to go up to 2022m currently on SP6. If I do the 2022 upgrade will it open my 2018 files? If 2022 does not work out for me will I be able to return to 2018? Has anyone seen bad things happening moving from 2018 to 2022? I'd ask my dealer here in NZ but since their lead tech left it would be a waste of time.

Hello, When I make an object a 2D symbol, the hatch I have it filled with is not visible unless I am editing the symbol. When I click out of the edit mode, the hatch reads as a white fill. What is happening here? It just started doing it. I have VW 2018. Thanks, Brittany

Palette Docking 3.0 Wishes
Kevin McAllister posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
I would be interested in some of the following wishes for Palette Docking 3.0 - - the ability to dock the Resource Manager as a tab like tabbed documents (tabbed documents is one of my favourite additions to VW2017) - the ability to dock palettes next to each other above the mode bar/drawing window so the palettes can have a user controlled width. Right now anything you dock there automatically stretches to full width - the ability to hide/show a dock area by clicking on the 3 dot divider (much like you can hide interface items in C4D) - more control over what the Snapping Palette does when you dock it so you can maintain its layout and orientation (why isn't the Snapping Palette a regular tool palette?) - a fix so a docking column can be sized to the width of the Snapping Palette (there's either a gap or it reflows into a single column of icons). - the ability to dock script palettes - the ability to open a worksheet as a tab like tabbed document and to have it open along with a document each time its opened. How we normally work is Nick saves back to 2018 so I can continue working on the file. My question is, is the change to Plant Styles going to break on the save back to 2018? We want to start working with plant styles but we're using different versions of landmark; I'm on 2018 (Windows) and Nic is on 2019 (Mac). The Plant Object info dialogues look very similar but I don't know what a 2019 windows dialogue looks like. Plant - appears the same. Definition - appears almost the same as windows, with addition of Plant Style on Mac Annotation/Render - appears the same. Tag - appears the same.

So I went to export the design layers & sheet layers (to dwg) from a .vwx, and selected to export layers as separate files. My vwx file is 445Mb, and the file has no references. I'm running vw2018 landmark on win 64. I did the design and sheet export as separate processes as have had problems with this before. Design space export was pretty much what I expected, one .dwg file per layer, some .pat & .ctb files, and a stack of bitmaps, all .png which is kind of annoying, but overall pretty much what I expected and about 250Mb. Exporting the sheets ... I killed process after half an hour as it had got 40% through and filled a folder with 7.6Gb of of mostly.png files {oi seemed to be working thru the sheets as it had created eight .dwg's}. All images are duplicated multiple times. Most bizzarely my .wvx file grew to 660Mb, and stayed that size after save. I haven't been able to find out what the extra nearly 200Mb is and fortunately I had a backup. I suppose I'm writing this as wa rning to others of what looks like a serious bug.

I would like two things to be added to the Navigation Palette to make it easier/more intuitive to updated multiple sheet layer viewports across multiple sheets at the same time. My wishes are - 1) to add a sheet number column to the Navigation-Viewports tab so you can see and sort the Viewports by sheet layer. 2) add an "Update Viewports" option to the right click contextual menu on the Navigation-Sheet Layer tab so I can select multiple sheet layers and right click to update their viewports (the current menu is shown in the screen shot below). Reading about having items pop up on here - It would be very useful to me if I could hover over / or click on -a plan location, and have my image/s taken at that location pop up. Is this even possible? I have not tried doing as wouldn't even know where to start. I'm on 2018, Landmark, windows.

Hi, I'm encountering the following issue: Drawing elements (lines, polylines, text etc) won't stay in front of walls and stairs. They always eventually go behind them "automatically". Sending them to front remedies the situation for some time. After a week of working or so the lines are again behind the walls. Everything is drawn on layer plane on the same design layer. This is a nuisance since eg. my fire compartment markings will become hidden. It's especially annoying if one doesn't notice this when issuing drawings. Is there a control somewhere I'm not aware of that would remedy the situation?

I would like to be able to dock the Resource Manager as a tab like I can do with documents. I usually work this way with my resource libraries in C4D. Click on the tab and the Resource Manager is available, select what I want and then click on a document tab to go back and use it. Kevin

Having issues exporting an ifc file. Everything converts and exports as it should, yet it takes 45mins plus for it to process and complete. File size, after purging is 370mb approx. Stories all set up correctly, for each of the 16 stories. Set in plan/top view when exporting, 3D conversion is "low" and most settings are as per the Vectorworks "Sharing your model with IFC" Document. Really is poor, as it means that no drawing work can be done until after the export. ArchiCAD users in the office export larger buildings than this in under a min in work. Any further tips? or is this standard for VW? You can see from the attached image, there is not a lot of detail in the model. Also attached is my computer specs. Its a top of the range iMac

Surface hatch alignment - world z origin does not have any effect
JMR posted a question in Troubleshooting
Hi, I wonder what I'm doing wrong: I have two walls on different design layers with different elevations/heights. Previously, surface hatches have aligned nicely if "use world z for origin" has been checked. Now, it doesn't have any effect on the hatch. What might be overriding the setting? -
2018 Service pack 2 not working on second monitor
VermontArchitect posted a question in Troubleshooting
Since I installed VW 2018 Service pack 2, I am unable to run VW on a second monitor - I have two different monitors I have tried this on. My old copy of 2017 still works fine on both monitors. I reinstalled Service Pack 2 but that didn't help. The menus look fine although I think they are not running native resolution on my 4k monitor. Anything in the drawing window is messed up and untouchable. When I grab the top and move VW back to screen 1 it works fine. Then when I move it back it stops working. All other programs including Photoshop and Sketchup work fine on the second monitor. The screen shot shows the drawing window in which current drawing is partially opened in duplicate - this is typical. hardware is super powerful - new Xi laptop with GeForce 1070.- 6 replies

Hi All, I've just discovered the VW has posted the Braceworks presentation I did at the Design Summit back in 2018. It's a follow along type thing so there are questions and answers being done live. The working files for the session are also posted. 90% of the stuff shown can be done without the Braceworks add-on. Braceworks from 2018 Summit You'll need to log in to see the course. Some items are a little out of date as I did the session using VW 2019 and there have been improvements in 2020. I'm looking forward to see what fixes await in 2021. Best, Scott

Dear fellow VW enthusiasts! I made my own lighting instrument. It is a 2D and 3D symbol, with a default lable ledgend. I also attached lighting records to it. I can put them in my drawing and everything seems ok, i Even simplified the 3D object to the absolute minimum to keep it simple. When I try to duplicate 16 of them along a path VW2020 just shuts down. I tried duplicating just 1 symbol and that works, then I try a few more and no chance. Vectorworks doesnt even think about it. Just shuts down. Im using vw2020 and im on Mojave (Mac). How can I try to find out whats wrong? EDIT: Ive just tried inserting a default symbol from the VW2020 library. Same issue. What can it be? Is Catalina a better match with VW2020 than Mojave? Magnus

Hi, A colleague has updated to Mojave and is working on 2018 SP5. She can no longer edit the title block. Our title blocks are symbols with record formats. When she tries to edit the file locks and she has to restart the program. The workaround is to put a white square over and write on top of it. Not a good solution in the long run. No one else have updated to Mojave because of all the issues she is experiencing. Most projects still run on 2018 not 2019. Ida

Just downloaded 2018 and I am migrating over.. Tell me if I am missing something, but I cannot get the Door Hinge Markers to show up as dashed line type in an elevation (hidden line render). In the door preview, the default preview render mode is Wireframe, and the dashed line shows up correctly. As soon as I switch to Hidden Line, it becomes a solid line. I use a class type for the hinge marker and have tried various line types, but I cannot get any of them to show up as anything but a solid line. Anyone else having this issue? Don't want to complain too much, because my biggest pet peeve with previous versions (detail callout) was resolved! J

Hi all, If the window hinge direction marker is set to "handle" (as is customary where I live), custom sash preview window always displays a flipped preview. Makes choosing handedness mighty confusing! Is there a setting to overcome this or is this a bug?

I'm having issues with markers in 2018 SP3 on Windows 10. In old versions, markers drew perpendicular to tangent of the line they were marking at the REAR of the arrow (IE, how you would expect an arrow to be drawn. In 2018 SP3, the behavior has changed and now draws perpendicular to the tangent at the NOSE of the arrow, resulting (especially when using the freehand tool) for the arrow head to be misaligned badly (ie, having the arrow hanging off the line by its nose.) Anyone else having this issue? is there a workaround?

@JimW This may be broader than entertainment only so feel free to move this to General if that makes more sense. Basically, why does the Visibility tool work differently on Design Layers vs View Ports as it pertains to what class get's highlighted when hovering over Symbols and PIOs? For example.... when I use it on a Design Layer over a generic run of P&D with the Softgoods Tool, it will highlight whatever the assigned master class of that layer is. IE: Scenic-P&D, so the item level. However, highlighting that same piece of P&D on a viewport it highlights 4-SGTS-Drapery (the pieces level) why is that? The same thing seems to happen with symbols. As @C. Andrew Dunning would say the Macro vs Micro. Class Breakdown from Softgoods Toolset.
