  1. Oops! Thank you. I will fix that.
  2. Is it possible the crashing is related to ram due to VW being 32 bit software? Max ram for 32 bit is 4gb. The system uses about 1gb leaving about 3gb for use. Wonder when VW is going to 64 bit (if ever)?
  3. R___t is not the only software that will do this. There are others that will also allow you to select what material the wall components consist of and allow you place the horizontal and vertical positions of the material and whether or not to report it in the material reports. Also allow you to profile walls. Think canted walls as a simple illustration. VW is behind the times as we know.
  4. This is something we should have had some time ago. Currently, there is no way within a wall style to vertically stack components. Example: Lower half of exterior wall to be stone veneer, upper half to be siding. This is very common in residential construction.
  5. While on the subject of framing; The framing tools need to be revamped. Need more options for corner and intersection framing. Need more options for number of jack studs for header support. Need to be able to define header size. Would be great to have or utilize joist and rafter span tables that are in IBC/IRC code books (here in the states), and have VW warn us when we are trying to exceed these span tables based on selected material. Would also be great to have VW warn us when we are exceeding header heights. Example: placing an 8' tall door in an 8' wall.
  6. Excellent idea. I'll 3rd the motion for this.
  7. Here is a site although not a manufacturers http://www.turbosquid.com/Search/3D-Models/gutter
  8. Had to use Firefox to download as MS Internet Explorere would not work for SP1 or SP2. Have not installed them yet.
  9. Try using Firefox or Google Chrome Browser in place of MS Internet Explorer. I had issue it would not download using MS-Internet Explorer. Firefox worked fine. FWIW
  10. RichG, Turn on Unified View View > Unified View Make sure you have Show Others in Layer Class selected You have a gap between 1st floor slab and 1st floor walls I assume that is how you want it to look.
  11. File > Document Settings > Document Setup. See attached images.
  12. The Xeon processor might be a better choice. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processor-comparison/compare-intel-processors.html?select=server
  13. joey, See Forums near bottom Hatches Symbols Textures etc...
  14. brent, Draw your 1st floor plan. Select plan Edit > Copy If you have not done so already, create Design Layer(s) for other floor level(s). Switch to other floor level, Edit > Paste in Place Your walls will now be stacked in alignment. Change Wall style if necessary and edit wall heights. If using footings, select wall width to represent footing width or create a wall for it. Use center mode when changing walls so center of footing is aligned with center of foundation wall. This will save you the offset steps. NOTE: Remember that if you move walls in your main plan, you will need to relocate the stacked walls in your other layers. Use Gray/Snap Others or Show/Snap Others. This acts as an overlay so you can verify alignment of Design Layers. I usually draw just the exterior walls on my main plan then copy and paste to my foundation or crawl space, 2nd floor Design Layer. Then I complete the floor plans.
  15. This is using the Stair Tool. Not Simple Stair Tool or Custom Stair Tool. General Tab > Select Standard Configuration Button to show configurations. Make your adjustments as needed. See screen images.
  16. Check this out from ArchonCad
  17. It is a profile you create or assemble if you will using existing moulding profiles, import, or create yourself. You can do the window stools and apron as one profile, or as individual components. If you make a profile of both combined & create a symbol, save them in a library and name them to your liking for future use. Tips that may help you are; How many different casing profiles (moulding styles/sizes) do you use? 2-1/2", 3-1/2", casing, etc... How many different stool profiles do you use? What depth stools (wall thickness driven) typically.
  18. By framing I assume you mean plates. Unfortunately, the AEC > Dimension Exterior Walls tool needs help/rewrite. We should be able to choose which wall component to dimension to instead of just extents or centers. Would be great to be able to dimension to Wall Core in your case. We should have this ability for T-Wall intersections as well. This would be great for new home builders vs remodelers. You could always have wall types based on need. I have walls with drywall & no drywall. I denote whether they are bearing or not as well.
  19. Funny, no mention of Microsoft file changes for Office Products. VW is not alone in this. FWIW
  20. You can leave the symbol assigned to current class or assign it yourself. I assign the symbol it's class myself. This way I know what class it is in for visibility and other reasons. If you put all your created symbols in the same class, then when you make that class invisible, all the created symbols are turned off as well. Is that what you want? Classes are a very powerful feature.
  21. Classes are up to the user unless they have a defined class structure or use one of the default class structures in VW. Lets say you created a new furniture sofa object. Classes can be as simple or detailed as you like. Some examples: Furniture - Sofa Furniture - Den - Sofa Furniture - Room - Formal - Sofa Creating a Hybrid Symbol - Simple Explanation. The tools you use depends on the symbol you are trying to create. If you want to create a turned column/post you would use the Sweep tool or Loft Surface tool once you create the profile(s) you need. A hybrid symbol is one that includes both 2D and 3D components. 1) To create a hybrid symbol, create the 3D part, then the 2D part in Top/Plan view. 2) Once drawn, align the 2D and 3D parts using the Tool > Align command, and select them all. 3) Switch to 2D Plan projection. Run the Create Symbol command from the Organize menu. The hybrid symbol is now available in the Resource Browser.
