  2. The basic ideas might be the same, but there are some HUGE differences in how you can use classes and layers in 2009. You should consider getting some updated tutorials or finding a trainer for some one-on-one.
  3. hmmmm.... I would try clicking the saved view twice... for some reason I think it sometimes takes two solid clicks to get it to align.
  4. For me the Track Pad Fix script for MBP's did not work. In fact that script made the problem worse. I cannot explain why it worked for some people. I called tech support, got in touch with Gunther Miller, he said he knew there was a problem with that script. To fix it he sent me a fresh User Preferences folder to replace the one in my Application Support folder. I just don't use the track pad. Use a mouse. Problems go away. Now 2009 is quite fast and no real problems with refresh/zoom.
  5. As a general rule, everything on my sheet layers is assigned to the "None" class, including Viewports. I never turn "None" invisible, so I never have to worry about something disappearing from view when navigating sheet layers. I am pretty sure this is a common practice. The saved-view suggesting seems fine too, but I have not needed to use it.

To get what you are asking you would need a way for the objects within the symbol to be set to "Use Symbol Class," kind of similar to the way wall styles work, where you can set their attributes to "Use Class Attributes." Doesn't exist yet...but I think it would be a great feature. The reason this would be better than the method Ray suggests is that then the graphic attributes of the objects within the symbol could still be controlled by class settings. If we make everything in symbols in the None class, then we lose that ability. One example might be you have a sink symbol, and you have one sink that is going to be removed, so you assign it to the "demolition" class, the lines inside that sink symbol take on the graphic attributes of that class, and you have another sink that is new, so you put another instance of that same symbol and put in the "plumbing" class, that one takes on the graphic attributes of that class. I am sure there are problems with this, situations where it could be a nightmare, but perhaps these could be avoided if this was simply an option that could be turned off.

Jeffrey, please take note, your recent activity/posts have been quite UNproductive, especially this long winded post above, despite your best intentions I am sure.   9. I think it is the Purge Textures option that is adding 10 to 15MB's weird.

  13. Isn't a furnace really just an extruded rectangle? Yeah there are some details that can be embellished, but perhaps you would be better simply modeling it yourself right in VW. That way you get to control the exact dimensions, and you only have as much detail and complexity as you desire. Note that although you can import sketch-up, (and sometimes it is great for a quick solution)... But it can often be a really clunky thing that you get, with tons of facets and pieces that you don't want in your file. Sketch-up models do not bring in their textures, and they are not Hybrid, so they often look terrible in Top/Plan view. Try it and play around with it, just beware that you might be better off, and it will probably be faster to just model your own in VW.
  14. Click on this Design Layer Viewport that is referencing another file. Now in the Object Info Palette, Click the Layers Button. Adjust the visibilities to show the most updated plan. Click Okay, now Click the Classes Button and check those. It is just like controlling the visibilities of a regular Sheet Layer Viewport.

Try again. Unless of course, you are using Hidden Line, or Wireframe as in a Top/Plan view. If so then Bill's Option #3 would work, since patterns still show up with B&W Only when in Top/Plan. Image Fills also will show themselves. But in any case, I would use Bills Option #2. Duplicating the geometry, as in your workaround seems not only clunky, but really a nightmare.
  16. Sure. There are a couple ways, but to do it with viewports, You just go View->Create Viewport, then select the destination to be on a Design Layer, Now notice that the "Select Source" button is activated, click it. You can now choose the document you want to reference from, then hit okay. This viewport will be created on that Design Layer, You can control the Class/Layer visibilities using the OIP. Position this Viewport to match up with the info in the file you are currently in, and you have it. You can create a Sheet Layer Viewport that captures both the current file and the referenced viewport. There are more subtleties, but you will figure it out once you give it a try.
  17. I don't want to offend you by suggesting the obvious...but I'll do it anyway...just to get started... Check to be sure that the class of the light objects is turned visible, you mentioned that the lights are ON, but the class must also be ON.
  18. Could just be a check-box in the OIP to "Include 3D Locus." or something like that... so you could disable it, but it would still just be one single Locus Tool.

  21. Is that a renderworks background you made, or just an image sent-to-back of a viewport?
  22. Brent, You should definitely just model each shingle... that way you are sure to get it right.
  23. Don't know why you can't upload. Now would be a good time to create a signature with your Computer Info and version of VW. You could try explaining more about your scaling issue, and someone can help. Try grouping the object first. Then you can either grab it by a corner and just stretch it until it is correct size, or try the Scale Objects menu command again.
