  1. I think that Marionette would be perfect for a Catenary Curve Tool. Each end of the curve would be individually defined by a 3D Node, and then you would specify the length and weight of the curve which defines the amount of sag. Blender has a Python script tool exactly like this- would be great for Vw. Extensions:2.4/Py/Scripts/Object/Catenary
  2. Jeff - have you taken a look at the Python page over at the Vectorworks Developer wiki? There's a handful of Vw Python samples that might get you started.
  3. 'Legacy' refers to tools that are no longer being maintained or updated and may not be automatically added to your Workspace. If you don't see them, you have to manually add them through the Workspace Editor. See this previous post by JimW for the Vw definition of 'Legacy'.
  4. Thanks JimW for the clarification. Hopefully, that is something that will be corrected soon. As I already stated, in the U.S. we need to be able to use both U- and R-Values together. Additionally this seems like something that should not rely on a 'Check Box' setting on the Window OIP. It should be a global Vectorworks Preference that allows you to set via pull-down the correct preset U- and R-Value settings based on your project location.
  5. Jim- Will modifying this XML file as you describe set Energos to use either U-Values or R-Values, but not both concurrently depending on the assembly in question? Currently in the U.S., we specify Wall Assemblies in terms of R-Values (e.g. R-21 Wall Assembly), whereas windows are specified in U-Values. If we change the XML file to use U-Values, are we now going to have to specify Wall Assemblies in terms of their U-Values?
  6. No, but see this post from michaelk for a potential solution your first question regarding copying worksheet formatting between cells.
  7. A search of these forums for 'autocad' will give you a multitude of previous threads related to this topic. This is a perennial topic of conversation and one that doesn't yield simple answers or any consensus 'best practices'. You may find that you need to simplify your Vw workflow in order to maximize compatibility with AutoCAD. As Gytis advised, keep it simple. Assign colors and lineweights per class, not per object. Use only an AutoCAD standard color palette Previous related threads: Exporting to DWG with referenced files exchanging files with Autocad DWG... and back into VW Best Practices for organizing a Vectorworks file for export to AutoCAD Trouble with Export to DWG (best practices with referenced files Good luck.
  8. In the U.S., we also specify the U-factor of a window (U-factor and U-value are interchangeable terms). R-Value is not typically used as a measurement for glazing products. If Energos is asking for the R-Value of a window, that does not seem correct to me.
  9. Take a look at this previous thread for info on how to add custom Marionette nodes so that they can be accessed from the Marionette pull-down menu. Very helpful tip from Pat Stanford quoted from that thread:
  10. You can't get new licenses of WinDoor for anywhere outside of AUS & N.Z. : I really wish that Vectorworks Inc. would just buy the rights to the WinDoor plugin and incorporate it into Vectorworks Architect for the worldwide user base. There are so many good features in it.
  11. Have you tried some of the steps listed on this Windows 7 Tips : Vw KB page including 'Run as Administrator'?
  12. Agreed. Maybe the 'Space' Tool could be improved to help with automatic door numbering and door handing. Door from bedroom to kitchen: Personally, I've never seen a lock on a door to the kitchen, only on a door to a bedroom. So- I would have the outside of the door / keyed on the side going from Kitchen ---> Bedroom.
  13. For interior doors the handing is also considered from the outside of the door, usually the keyed / secure side: The outside of a room door is the hall side The outside of a closet door is the room or hall side
  14. From this other thread Since you're located in the U.S., I would call the Sales Department or your Sales Representative to see if they can give you an answer. http://www.vectorworks.net/sales/
  15. Maybe creating a Custom Selection script might work for you: Creating Custom Selection Scripts : Vw2015 Help
  16. Thanks for the clarification, Marissa. Your 'Print List' node sounds like it would work similar to a Watch node, which would be most welcome.
  17. You won't find many sources of native Vw objects on the web, those you've already listed are pretty much all I've ever found. It depends on what you're specifically looking for, but I usually have good luck with importing SKP models. Other sources: http://www.nationalbimlibrary.com/vectorworks http://www.vectordepot.com/symbols/ I'm assuming that you already installed the additional Vw content library? http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1170/Vectorworks+2014+Content+Library+Installation
  18. Marionette's Debug mode is useful, if somewhat confusing to use, but it's not as good as a simple 'Watch' node would be. It also involves many more steps (turn on Debug, click on the wire, turn off Debug, change the Node's values, repeat). Because of the current scale issues (Marionette being 1:1), a node that prints to a text object on a DL sounds like a lot of zooming in and out between the Marionette network and the text object. Plus, if it prints the entire Debug output from a whole Marionette network into one text object, it may get a little confusing about which Node has which value.
  19. P Retondo: thanks for clarifying this as I did not know about this bug. I'm glad to hear that it's not just me. All of this layer -vs- screen confusion just leaves us with uncertainty about correct object snapping. Hopefully Vw gets it sorted out.
  20. I have yet to figure out why I seem to get randomly switched from Layer to Screen plane, or vice-versa. I don't know if it's a keyboard shortcut or tool selection, but I am always having to turn back on Automatic working plane. (This is in both Vw2015 and 2016).
  21. Bill: take a look at this thread. Quotes copied from that thread explaining that in Vw2016 you now have to create a RW Camera to get 'exposure' control: I believe the Vw2016 Help file has incorrect and outdated info as it still refers to adjusting the 'Image Exposure' parameter in the Custom Renderworks settings; I believe it is the same help file page from Vw2015. Migrating Rendered Files from Pre-2010 Versions of Renderworks : Vw2016 Help File
  22. Thanks JimW, that's good to hear. One other suggestion, since there haven't been many (any?) new training videos recently uploaded to the Service Select portal, how about automatically providing these webinar recordings for all VSS subscribers, regardless of whether or not they registered for the webinar in the first place? Non-VSS subscribers would still have to register to get access to the recorded webinars, but VSS subscribers would not. Just a suggestion.
  23. @Alan: here's a link to the Announcement page with all four webinar links: Vectorworks, Inc. Announces Graphical Scripting Webinar Series And as JimW noted, they have also been added to the Community calendar at the right side of the page, click on either 'January' or the individual dates, starting with the 18th, to see the webinar registration link(s).
  24. Alan: as sbarrett says, if you register for the webinar but can't attend the live session you'll be sent a private link of the recorded webinar so you can watch it whenever. But you have to register in order to receive the link. Go register!
  25. Nik - take a look at this previous thread. It should answer your question. Helpful tip from Pat Stanford quoted from that thread:
