  1. Jay, If you are only using radius lines in 2D than just set the center radius line and offset the equidisant lines. If you are inputting a 3D wall use the curved wall tool. pa
  2. Pete, Yes...the image remains in its last state with a dashed red bounding line representing that a change has occured and the viewport is in need of updating. I have on occasion run into your dilema...mainly when creating a section viewport while in an active class that is not part of the viewport classes that I assign during the VP set-up process. With unusually large files I try to keep viewport cache up and running so as to limit the number of times updates are required... ..So I now have created a design layer and set of classes specifically for sections and assign appropriate data to those layers and classes alone. This discipline has corrected many problematic practices. Pete A
  3. Since you dinmension to the rough face of framing than your wall styles should not include any line representing finishes such as sheetrock or siding (brick veneer is the exception). Your exterior sheathing would have a finish texture applied to the outside surface that would also serve as the dimension face as well as the inside of the framing would have the sheetrock surface texture applied. This is typical and a correct way to represent to the field the proper face framing dimensions as well as appropriatly generating rendered models for presentation with the correct finishes. One other method is to continue using the finish lines for siding and sheetrock but specify the hide wall components when layer scale is <...in the document setup dialog to set dimensions. Pete A
  4. If your viewport dissapears when you select it from the Viewports navagation window does it come back? Check to make sure that the class you assign the viewport when you create it is setup as displayable. Pete A
  5. Convert to lines Command under modify and select hidden line pa
  6. Check to make sure you might have duplicate copies of the walls where the doors are inserted to one copy while the other seems to show they are not. Select a wall and delete it...if there is still a wall there than you have a copy and will need to clean up your model. One of the ways this may have happened is if you accidently hold down the CTRL key and click the left mouse button at the same time...I've done it.
  7. Amacbabe, See the thread on complex roof structures at Complex Roof Structures If you need adittional help I may be able to guide you in complex roofs. pete
  8. Mechanix, The top riser should be the floor deck header/rim framing in standard construction...would it not? And so should be handled with a nosing and riser seperate from the stair geometry. The stair tool will build the stairs as they would in the field...less the top riser. pa
  9. Yes...this was a problem with the last version. The system reverts to the class at the top of the order whenever the setup window is invoked to change the parameters of a window or door. Sometimes it can be quite annoying. I even tried to delete the class but it gets re-created when the parameter window is invoked. pa
  10. As always...I normally draw a quick section detail manually to identify the height of my wall plates. I have found that using the fit walls to roof command works best only if your roof thickness is set to the fascia dimension which gives a clean look on the outside but does not provide for proper framing data. On the presentation side, however it works very well. The 3D reshape tool works well when you have really special walls to modify and you want to keep the wall data intact for window and door insertion. Below I had one of those cases where I needed to insert a hump-back window unit into a wall with the roof scalloped to match the window raduis'...a 4-1/2 hour project in itself. The barrel roof over the window as well as the fascia is fabricated from solids and the roof plane the barrel cut into is a Roof Face Object (I was suprised it worked). The hump-back window is made from a gabled opening hidden behind the 3D solids based windows and trim both exterior and interior.
  11. Lucylou, Use the 3D Reshape Tool to modify and/or move the points of the wall to your specifications. Check to make sure you want the "Link Wall to Z Height" selected in the OIP before you change the points. pa
  12. BandA, I am having no problem with viewport rendering in 12.5.2 so far. I have my final quality renderworks viewport set to background none and orthogonal with an 35% amibient light settings. Can you list your settings for the rendered viewport? Pete
  13. Select the object... ctrl-F = move to front ctrl-B = move to back ctrl-alt-F = move to the front by steps of entities placed ctrl-alt-B = move to the back by steps of entities placed Pete
  14. Jeff, I have my autosave set at 5 min. intervals with the max number of undo steps set to 100. This setup does not help in the case of stupid mistakes...but I have had to recover from a fatal error which is always due to my stupidity. I also take very seriously, manual saves constantly with the ctl-S key combination every couple of moves and depending on the complexity every single step especially when building roof structures or framig. Most of the time I can't remember what I did 2 minutes ago let alone 30 minutes... Pete
  15. Just drop the bucket on another class...or draw your polys on another class...makes it easier to isolate and delete. pete
  16. dhbrown, Another quick and easy is to change the active class when using the bucket fill tool...then just turn off the class or erase the lines used to fill with but make sure you set the class options to make only the class you want to erase active. pete
  17. dhbrown, The paint bucket tool fills an area within a boundary of existing lines/polys. This will leave the original lines/polys in place. Try using the "Compose" command to turn the lines/polys into a complex polygon. This entails selecting the lines you want to bind together as a polygon...once selected go to Modify->Compose and Ned's your brothers uncle. pete
  18. Tammy, You need to make sure that the 3D figure was placed on its default class and not the active class during placement. This may be the reason for not being able to move it. Check to make sure what class it is on and also check your class options to see if you have "show/snap/modify others" selected. pete
  19. Is there a list of bug fixes for 12.5.2 available anywhere?
  20. Both Dons and Petes methods will work for you but don't forget to use the paste-in-place command after you copy. It will drop in the same position it was created. Make sure you have the stack command off before the copy. pa
  21. Ahhh.... What you are seeking is an option under preferences to set a check-box override to always re-render when in a hidden-line or whatever rendered mode currently present. Currently you are limited to 3D sketching in wireframe only without the warning popup. Submit that one to the wish list... pa
  22. Don, This is a tough one. If you are trying to see only the stud frame lines in 2D that will be an issue. VW can only show you the outer-most line of a wall component. There are two ways to accomplish this. 1)under document preferences set the hide wall components when scale is (you set the scale detail level) and 2) in viewports there is an advance settings in the OIP where you can select to turn on or off the wall componenent detail. Hope this helps... pa
  23. Ronin, The major benifit to using this type of VP technique is to give the the appearance of depth to an otherwise 2D drawing. This is strictly for presentational purpose which with any type of unique graphical display presents the viewer with a dimension that mimicks reality thereby communicating a dramatic response from tickling the senses. You can paralell the response similar to listening to a symphony from outside the hall or inside the hall. Both expamples will get the job done, however the experience will be enhanced from inside. Your VP's must have their fill attributes set to "None" for this technique to work. Please note however that in order for this technique to work you must spend time building the model rather than filling in an elevation. So the time to produce this result is equal with both techniques but this one is realistic. Pete A
  24. ron, You can get the wall caps to match a wall component line thickness by setting the graphic attribute under edit class dialoge window. The identical line thickness must also be set up in the wall style edit dialoge line thickness for the "Wall" and "Component". Experiment with these settings on just one simple wall before you change the setting in entire project. I use this type of setup for all of my wall styles...the differnt type walls (i.e. Interior, Exterior...) are on a seperate class with specific control values to match the style. You will find in your testing that the wall style edit for the "Wall" affects the 3D display as well as 2D color and thichness...the component edit will only affect the 2D display. Hope this helps. Pete A
  25. Thank you for the kind words! I have to, however, say that I recieved my inspiration from Islandmon, Peter Cipes, Pete Retendo, Petri the sometimes rude but always humorous and absolutly right on with VW, Mike from OZ, Robert Anderson, Christiaan, archoncad, propstuff and many many others who post to these forums with their wealth of knowledge...but I think the person who really got me going was "Kaare Baekgaard" I think it was the nail to the forehead and running out into the street screaming that showed me there are other users who after years of work in VW are still slamming their heads in the door jamb to get great results. Thanks to you all...and Thanks VW for a good product. And thanks Katie! Pete A.
