  1. DWorks, you should give stories/ storeys a try. I think you'll find they are significantly more useful than the old Z/delta-Z system. For one thing, you no longer have to manage heights manually (as you said). For another, many more objects can be set to automatically get their height (in Vectorworks 2011 and earlier, only walls weould change): -walls -columns -pilasters -stairs -escalators -window walls Lastly, a Stor(e)y definition can control any number of layers. I'm not sure why you say "the storeys will only become usefull if you actually can place objects on a storey, and not on a design layer." This seems to me to be just a technical distinction.
  2. ccw, change the "offset in wall" property of the windows so the wall does not project beyond them.
  3. Elevations (exterior and interior) can make use of Automatic Drawing coordination; just draw section lines outside the building (for ext. elevations) or cropped section lines inside the building (for interior elevs.) Cropped viewports (details, etc.) are not part of ADC at this time.
  4. Like most software products, Vectorworks is licensed. If someone is selling you a "used" version, they are (in all likelihood) violating the terms of their license. However, it is possible to transfer a license. The seller should contact Nemetschek Vectorworks' Customer service department for details on how to do this: US (410) 290-5114.
  5. shr, I think our QA department would be interested in seeing your file. COuld you send a report of this to bugsubmit@vectorworks.net, along with the file as an attachnment?
  6. The "no codes" files have simple component descriptions. The "codes" files have a MasterFormat product number prepended to the component description (otherwise the same). This can be useful if you want to quantify your walls at a component level and sort out into a worksheet by product code. Not everyone wants or needs this (nor does everyone find the MasterFormat coding system relevant) so we provide the uncoded form.
  7. For a cross-platform, standalone photogrammetry program, take a look at DigiCad 3D: http://www.interstudio.net/DigicadE.html
  8. ADC as of Vectorworks 2011 works with section, elevation, and interior elevation views created with the Create Section Viewport command.
  9. Tim, what font is this? Do you see this 'stacking' if you change fonts?
  10. The addition of Sheet Numbers (which are mandated to be unique) to Sheet titles (which are not) was necessitated by the Automatic Drawing Coordination feature. I'm not sure why you are seeing a difference in the sort order. The sort order may be mandated by the OS (I've seen it change in Finder before in pretty much the way you describe.)
  11. Joerg, I have looked up your bug in the database. Appended to its entry is a note from one of our QA people (Aksenia) that she was not able to reproduce your bug. She notes that she has asked you for a bug file (i.e. a file that demonstrates the bug) but she has not heard back from you. Perhaps her request to you hit your spam filter?
  12. Don, when Peter and Jon are talking about "wall recesses" I think they are talking about Wall Features, which were introduced in (I think) Vectorworks 2009. The Wall Features functionality is dead-simple to use, which is I suspect why they suggest it. That said, you can make a symbol that does not break the wall (by stacking two 2D loci). But if you want a custom 3D subtraction from the wall that leaves the wall surfaces, you'll need to upgrade also.
  13. Petri, actually, I think they support -only- the IFC schema, not Revit.
  14. My method requires auto-boundary.
  15. If you're using the column object for your columns, the Space Object does this automatically. See images.
  16. The Vectorworks Drawing border system allows full user control of date stamping of individual revisions as well as drawing issues. The problem with "automatic" date stamping is that the date stamp function can't read your mind and know when you have completed the revision.
  17. The Plane of an object is available on the Object-info palette. Below are displays for a rectangle and a mixed selection. Use the Plane pull-down to set the default plane for drawing.
  18. Why not lock the file using the operating system? Both Mac and Windows have file permissions that will let you set a file as "read only".
  19. Just as an experiment, try turning off the Quartz preference and see if the print works. (I hope that whoever submitted the bug also included a bugfile that exhibits the problem!)
  20. View menu, Layer Options item. Choose "Show/Snap Others" or "Gray/Snap Others".
  21. Ion, I don't know the answer to your question. I think the short one is, "maybe, but not using this file". I'll ask the engineer.
  22. This information is now stored in an XML file: [VW_directory]/Plug-ins/Common/Data/DoorPreferences.xml (There's one for the window, too.) If you're doing this for a workgroup, you may want to put this (modified) file on a server and put just an alias/shortcut to the server file in this location.
  23. Fredrik, I am not seeing this error on forward-translation. Could you submit a bug (to bugsubmit@vectorworks.net) and include a file that exhibits the error?
  24. Kaare, how do you mean, "the brushoff"? If you can give me a bug number, I will be glad to follow up on this issue.
