  1. Wow, doesnt look too good. 1. Havent tried title blocks 2. Roof style conversion from 2016 works. 2017 have not tried yet. 3. All roof component classes converted from 2016 work as expected. 3. Confirming upon file conversion all is well, once you edit a class associated with a roof component. All hell breaks loose. Component end mitres change from vertical to horizontal, thickness of component drops to zero, texure gets deleted from component. Haven't converted from 2017 as majority of our current projects are being done in 2016. Been really busy in the southern hemisphere this year. Too busy to even upgrade a version! So it looks like we'll be taking the leap to 2018
  2. When opening older project file versions in newer versions, it does a 'complete' conversion in-place. Meaning the old project file(*.vwxp) gets converted and replaces (in location) the older version, and the older version gets moved to a folder called 'Old Version Vectorworks Files'.
  3. Hmm, totally opposite experience here. Played with v2018 over a couple of hours, maybe 6-7 in total. We have a current project that is an residential Apartment consisting 6 storeys, across 3 towers (sort of), 2 level carparks and a retail level. No noticeable hiccups/crashes yet. The multi view is working flawlessly with this test. Havent checked out stairs yet but thats one gripe our whole office has with VW. As noted by Peter above it would pay to have your machine specs in your signature or something, so others can at least now where you are with hardware/OS, etc. As with what @digitalcarbonmentioned above. Wouldn't browser based version come with its own hardware/software compatibility issues. The obvious one being no internet connection?
  4. Hi @Marissa Farrell, @JimW, was there going to be a list of Marionette Improvements?
  5. Hats off to another great release. Sure there are some things here and there that need some work. But this MultiView Pane editing has been such a game changer. Just threw a 6 storey/3 tower apartment project into this and its been very stable (2-3hours of play), and working on different views on different towers and different levels all in one view is major productivity boost!
  6. I read service select members have early access.. and got too excited.. it really should have probably said service select members excluding NZ... <sigh> our service select member portal does have the whats new videos though
  7. +1 for this.. especially for BIM/CAD Managers, having to constantly keep tabs on Version changes for Workflows/Templates/etc every year, gets really taxing.. at least we'll have 'some' insight on upcoming changes. Already with the current 2018 teaser Tuesdays, I'm gearing up for the workflow change with multiple views (revising save views in the templates, etc). For the cloud services: - How much storage is available for the cloud service? - is OneDrive on the roadmap? OneDrive comes with 1Tb storage with MS Office 2016.
  8. We get this if we publish an A1 scaled down to A3 (via printer settings, 50% method). Also when we publish 1:500 on A3 this occurs post-publish. We notice it when we zoom in.
  9. Third this, in addition, the ability to tie to Design Layer Elevation Levels or Story Levels or Stories. As they can be placed on the drawing and if RL's/FFL's change, corresponding labels update automatically.
  10. This is true, but similar to what others have mentioned, the 'hyping' still happens with release videos, and the actual use-case of the tools don't reflect the marketing (ie Import C4D Textures). I would love to have the 'hype' surrounding a roadmap at least. At least we can see 'briefly' what is in the pipeline. Have a look at VRAYforC4D's release notes. (At the bottom is a good example of the kind of roadmap that is enough). http://www.vrayforc4d.net/v-rayforc4d-3-4-released/ disclaimer, this is no shot at Vectorworks as a product, I gladly use it and bend it to it's breaking point happily (ie productively).

    Create Trusses

Hi Alan, not really understanding the question. Do you want an output node that spits out a list of objects? or named objects? Just opened your file, the criteria should be T=SLAB for roof faces. Or ST=ROOFFACE
  12. We've played around with this release for a while as well. Quite seemles with FBX export. The same with Lumion3D. Lumion is the one we use in house for quick video renders. The pricing is quite steep though, hence the reason were stuck on version 6. Both of these products should be on Vectorworks radar... Below render took 5mins (720p).
  13. That'd be great, if as service select customers, we could choose more powerful machines to do the heavy lifting during rendering.
  14. That was my next question.. lol.. are the cloud servers faster than this? actually, what are the specs for the cloud servers?
  15. This is great. How long did it take to render the 360 Pano?
  16. Yep thats true.. we shall call it "Welcomed Wednesdays" here then
  17. Hmmm, I had thought it was going to be every Tuesday as well. Maybe a schedule of Teaser Tuesdays???
  18. Just chiming in, I started with Vectorscript but have moved on to Python, as it's much easier -for me- to learn and use. Hopefully this is ok here, I guess you could convert it to VS if needed. Below is a script in python: import vs # copy symbol/plugin out of wall # As Pat said earlier, spaces/tabs are important in python # I always use an external editor to check for this before pasting my code back into vectorworks # I use PyCharm Community Edition def list_objs_inserted(h_wall): h_obj = vs.FIn3D(h_wall) list_objsinserted = [] while h_obj != None: if vs.GetTypeN(h_obj) in [86, 15]: list_objsinserted.append(h_obj) h_obj = vs.NextObj(h_obj) return list_objsinserted # A Wall needs to be selected! h2_wall = vs.FSActLayer() vs.SetDSelect(h2_wall) objs_in_wall = list_objs_inserted(h2_wall) for obj in objs_in_wall: newObj = vs.CreateDuplicateObject(obj, None) # None passed in as last parameter just places a copy on the layer you're on vs.SetSelect(newObj) Got the idea from @orso b. schmid's website here : http://www.vectorlab.info/index.php?title=Han-First_Selected_in_Active_Container That website is an invaluable resource for vectorworks vs/python coders HTH Tui
  19. Please UpVote this on the wishlist post below!
  20. This is great.. thanks VW Team.. now looking forward to that script sharing section with similar screenshots..etc.. future is less dim now
