KingChaos
Hi all, in some tutorials the ppl duplicate objects and the duplicates have not a position offset. If i duplicate some stuff i allways have an offset in x and y? BR KC Quote Link to comment
0 fuberator
if you want the exact same location do copy and then paste-in-place Edited November 23, 2021 by fuberator Quote Link to comment
0 KingChaos
Thanks, ah ok, but my teacher told me to duplicate, i thought it would be possible to manipulate the duplicate tool. 🙂 Quote Link to comment
0 fuberator
it is, use the duplicate array command from the edit menu, you can specify offset there Edited November 23, 2021 by fuberator Quote Link to comment

0 Boh
Tools>Preferences Might be in the display tab. It’s a n there somewhere… Quote Link to comment
0 fuberator
Accordning to this page: https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2017/eng/VW2017_Guide/Objects_edit1/Duplicating_Objects.htm it is in the preferences. but I cant find it there. There is however a setting in preferences>edit called alt-click to duplicate in place. that does what you want but with alt clicking instead of ctrl-D'ing Quote Link to comment

0 KingChaos
and what does this button do? thx TomW Quote Link to comment
0 Tom W.
When 'Allow Option+click in-place duplication' is enabled, you can hold down the Option key (Alt on Windows?) + click on an object to Duplicate it in place. So it has the exact same effect as Command-D with 'Offset Duplications' disabled. Which is what @fuberator said I personally like to have both 'Offset duplications' + 'Allow Option+click in-place duplication' enabled as per screen shot. With 'Offset duplications' enabled you can Option-click + drag an object to duplicate it + move it to a new location, then immediately Command-D to create a series of duplicates of that object at the same offset each time. So a bit like Move by Points Tool in Move + Duplicate Mode. 1 Quote Link to comment
