3Dconnexion SpaceMouse - Reversed Axes, Roll Left/Right

Mark Aceto

Question

After learning subdivision modeling, I immediately bought a SpaceMouse Enterprise. BTW the subdivision gum ball needs to be an option in all object selection modes (like Rhino, Cinema R24, etc). I can't believe that funntionality has existed in VW for years without existing everywhere in VW.

I finally figured out how rotate an object in 3D using Target Camera Mode. However...

  1. Compared to the demo 3DC Trainer app, all axes are reversed in VW: up is down, left is right, pushing in is pulling out...
  2. From what I understand, VW doesn't support rolling left/right. Please tell me that's not the case anymore because that's the whole point of "6 degrees of freedom"
  3. Also, I guess there's no hope of tool icons for Mac users because 3DC just hasn't been able to solve that feat of engineering in the past 4+ years

I'm proposing that 3DC developers are added to the VW beta program, so they can get a head start on fixing their Mac and Windows drivers in advance of each VW release, with the hope that all of their doodads work for VW users (both Windows and Mac) on release day in September.

Please upvote the original post (not this comment) with the chevron in the top left corner if you have a 3DC doodad that would benefit from that. Thanks in advance.

I should not have assumed this wasn't already happening. 3DC really need to step up their game for Mac VW users.

So... I am finding that I am getting an annoying effect when using my Spacemouse Pro in VW2025 in Macos Ventura.

It's a kind of rolling shutter effect as if the screen is refreshing from bottom to top at a low framerate.

I think this started with moving from Monterey to Ventura, rather than from VW2023 to VW2025 because I get something similar in VW2023.

My 3dconnexion driver version is a relatively old one, and I'm wondering if I should update to the latest one (10.8.6).

I am nervous about changing anything because previous experience with 3dc drivers tells me it can mess things up.

Does anyone have a 3dconnexion device running on Ventura/VW2025 sucessfully with that latest driver version?

Is it possible that Enterprise (or even original old Space Navigator) and VW 2025 with newest driver is relatively useless, again ?

I can't access the VW intern driver settings like Helicopter mode and horizon lock, also I am not able to rotate about any useful center, like View Center or that it would rotate about a selected object.

Also the standard View button seem to not work for me anymore. At least the "Application Commands" for Buttons 1-12 seem to still work.

I have 3dxware 10.7.0 and a space mouse pro, and haven't updated to latest driver for fear of breaking something.

I only ever use helicopter mode, so it doesn't really affect me, but looking just now, it seems that I can't change to another mode (it used to be that one of the buttons would switch modes).

What about macros/mappings? These are completely up the spout on my devices. Used to all work perfectly + really sped up my workflow providing much quicker access to tools/commands.

Currently, I have a perfectly working Space Mouse. But only after uninstalling and re-installing the latest firmware. Here is what I have......

Otherwise, all settings are the defaults, and everything works well.

Ok thanks Mark this is what I'm on I will try your settings:

Interesting you say you're on the latest firmware yet my one appears to be later. I haven't changed anything for at least 6 months. I was repeatedly told to update the version/firmware but every time I did it the performance got worse so I gave up. But no harm trying again!

Well. I updated my mac in October and reinstalled everything "as new". So there may be another firmware update since then. One thing that has caused problems is the 3D connexion wireless usb puck. That often needs to be rebooted (pulled in and out of it's socket). After that, all works well. If you are wireless, then how about giving that a try before doing anything else?

My SpaceMouse is wireless but I have it plugged in for some reason. I don't think I could get it to work wirelessly. But that's fine. My Cadmouse is wireless but uses Bluetooth. They both worked absolutely fine up until VW2023 + I think even then they worked ok as long as I stayed on old drivers. I will report back...

Haven't really got time to test fully right now, but the button mappings seem to at least mostly work. I barely use them in practice though.

I have installed the latest driver + it's exactly the same. Some of the mappings on my CadMouse are being respected but half of them aren't. None of the mappings on my SpaceMouse are. I don't understand why it's working for you + not for me. This for example is how I have the RM Tools Radial Menu mapped in the settings for my SpaceMouse:

Screenshot2025-03-20at14_33_38.thumb.png.5badfb270b99620a7832c554b7b4133d.png

But this is what I see when I use it:

Screenshot2025-03-20at14_35_15.png.ea47fcbbe14653907c31a581d1a15d73.png

It's the same with RM Views. It's been like this for several years. It used to work perfectly.

With the CadMouse it's a bit more of a mixed bag but still not working as it should (as it used to). For example this is one of my Radial Menus:

Screenshot2025-03-20at14_38_47.png.01bf7913fe45766189feccbe4af19a54.png

All the mappings display correctly + all of them work except for Push/Pull which does nothing. It used to work a couple of years ago!

Hello all,

We are working on an updated 'integration' with 3dconnexion.  Unfortunately, I don't have a timeframe for completion but it should be in the next few months.

Thank you!

Appreciate the update thank you! Great to hear that the problem's being worked on + a solution's in sight.
