Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted September 23, 2010 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 23, 2010 For plain white, softly-lit exterior rendering: 1. Delete or turn off all light objects. 2. Open View->Lighting->Set Lighting Options... dialog. 3. Set Indirect Lighting to Exterior, 1 Bounce 4. Turn off ambient 5. Click OK 6. Apply RW background "HDRI White" (from VW default library) to layer 7. Open View->Rendering->Custom Renderworks Options dialog 9. Turn off Textures 10. Turn off Colors 11. Set Anti-aliasing and Quality levels to taste 12. Render in Custom RW HTH! Quote Link to comment
Bryan G.
bear with me I do not do allot of rendering, but could you produce those buildings with full color landscape? I mean white buildings with a full landscape plan in color? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Yes you could. Quote Link to comment

Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted September 28, 2010 Author Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 28, 2010 Hello Vincent: That is bizarre. Can you send me the VWX file? Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Hello Vincent: That is bizarre. Can you send me the VWX file? Sure.... ......I just tried with a clean new file and everything works great....so there is something wrong with this particular file and I guess as always something to do with the dwg(vwx) that is referenced into it.......( I also copied a couple of contour lines from the referenced file to create a terrain model with!) I'll just have to copy all native VW objects to a new file and go from there I guess..... Edited September 28, 2010 by Vincent C Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
...this looks MUCH better )....at least it's not something that's wrong in general...... Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted September 28, 2010 Author Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 28, 2010 There may have been an outlier object from the DWG model. I am not seeing one with the file you posted though. Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Thanks for looking anyway Dave, I'll post again when I've set up the new file, and let you know how it went. Edited September 28, 2010 by Vincent C Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Well it was definitely a corrupt file.... dwgs really are terrible for VWs...... Edited September 28, 2010 by Vincent C Quote Link to comment
propstuff
bear with me I do not do allot of rendering, but could you produce those buildings with full color landscape? I mean white buildings with a full landscape plan in color? Yes you could. Are you sure Peter? Dave's method is to take the colour away in the rendering mode. How could you get this to produce a white building in a full colour landscape? Stacked Viewports? Aligned layers with Unified View turned off? haven't had time to try Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Well a solution would be to give the buildings a solid white color.......... (then again how often is that the case......in a project) Quote Link to comment
Bryan G.
Vincent, White buildings would be nice from time to time when all I am trying to display is a color landscape and (white)building placement as a backdrop. Propstuff is right in questioning the removal of color, I would like to know if it can be done as I am wondering how? Just askin? Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Everything that has a fill color of white will show as white everything that is given a color or texture will show as such, all you have to do is not do points 8 and 9 in the first post of this thread ie. keep Color and Texture checked in the View->Rendering->Custom Renderworks Options dialog Quote Link to comment
Bryan G.
Thanks for the quick reply. I will get the kids off to school and play with it to see what I get. Thanks again. Quote Link to comment
Bryan G.
Whait I looked at the original post there is not a #8 am I missing something? You mean 9 and 10? Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Ha ha it's been a long day here (going to pick up the kids soon ) sorry you're right ofcourse..... Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted September 29, 2010 Author Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 29, 2010 You can do it with class overrides, but only if the white buildings don't have a texture already applied to them and they are set to a by class fill.
