Vectorworks 2024 on Mac Studio won't open

This issue doesn't seem to have been quite addressed elsewhere.

 

I have just acquired a Mac Studio, running Sonoma. I installed Vectorworks 2024. If I try to open the program, the opening screen comes up, it thinks for a bit, then closes right back down. 

 

I thought about installing updates 1 & 2, but you can only install those from Vectorworks, so I can't as it won't open.

 

I checked storage, and I have a whopping 1.1TB used for System Data - trying to clear that now. I have about 650GB available - is this enough to run VW2024?

 

Any ideas?

Just FYI, the update installer is a separate program in the same folder as VW.

That app "Vectorworks 2024 Updater" also has a repair function which you could try running before updating.

The repair function is under "advanced options".

Thanks for the reply. It turned out to be a poor installation, so uninstalling and reinstalling solved it. I couldn't have run the "repair" because that requires VW to be open, and it wouldn't, but it is a useful thing to know about.

Actually, you have to close VW if you try running Repair whilst it's open... My understanding is that Repair goes through all the installation files one by one, replacing any which are in any way corrupted, so it would have been interesting to know whether it would have solved your problem...

@Tom W. is correct... Vectorworks MUST be closed in order to run the repair function.

I read of issues where repair/update failed in a loop because the Updater insisted

on first closing a running VW - which could not be closed as there was none running .....

Bur where di you run the repair function FROM if V is closed?

Repair is part of the Vectorworks Updater. Which is a separate application from Vectorworks.  Both should be in your Vectorworks 2024 folder in the Applications folder.

 

With the Updater running click the Advanced Options button at the middle right and choose the Repair option.
