  1. 4 of us out of 14 have upgraded to OS 10.2.6. 2 of us have noticed that VW appears to slow down over time requiring a restart of the application to get us back up to speed. Has anyone else noticed this? OS 10.2.6 G4 733 256-640 Mb Ram VW 9.5.3
  2. VW Architect 10.5.1, OS X 10.3.3, G4/800. VectorWorks is taking about 1m15s to quit. Doesn't happen on other similar machines. Very strange. Any suggestions?
  3. I have a file in which a model layer containing a number of objects and a layer link runs extremely slowly when the layer link is visible. It takes several seconds after clicking on an object for its properties to show up in the info palette. It's literally impossible to work with the file in this state. If I switch the layer link to an invisible class, the problem disappears immediately. When the layer link is visible, it reappears immediately. Layer options set to "Active Only." In its slow state, the program is using 100% of the CPU when stalled, even if the current operation is simply moving the cursor from one vertex to an adjacent one. This problem is similar to the way a drawing with a great number of snap points used to bog down when moving the cursor across it - but different. In this case, I'm not moving the cursor across more than one point. VWA 10.1 Win2K P4 2.0G 768 MB RAM
  4. Help. I'm using vectorworks 10 on a G3 imac 600mhz os 9. How can I speed up the time it takes to render files? Please help! Regards Mada.
  5. Up until recently I have been doing the majority of my work in MiniCad 7.0.3, OS 9.2.2. Now that I've got OS X running, I am beginning to move from OS 9 to X. I have not used VW 9 much, other than for importing Autocad files, then exporting back to Minicad. Recently I have been trying to spend more time in VectorWorks, but it really seems quite a bit slower than MiniCad, and is causing frustration. 99% of what I do is 2D. I do quite a bit of moving around the drawing - selecting, editing, deleting, etc. In MiniCad, it is fairly instantaneous. With VW, there is a slight delay. I cannot select multiple items in quick succession. When I pan the drawing, it moves jerkily across the screen. trying to drag-select is a nightmare. Any ideas? (and please don't say that I need to upgrade to VW 10). VectorWorks 9.5.2 OS 10.2.8 G4/1.25GHz
  6. I have recently bought an HP500PS but am very disappointed to find that it is agonisingly slow to rip and then print, and it locks up my computer whilst it is doing so. I have Vectorworks 9.5 with Architect, and I run it from a G4 Mac. I Have allocated plenty of memory to the rip and to Vectorworks. I use the rip and driver that came with the printer. They were difficult to set up, but with a lot of patient help from the HP tech line, I eventually managed to do so. Before getting the HP I used to print tiles onto my A3 Epson Stylus inkjet printer and stick them together. It was a tedious process but the print quality was excellent and it printed each tile in no time at all. Why does one have to go through the rip process and postscript? Isn?t it possible to use the HP printer in the same Quickdraw mode? Please help. I?m desperate. The present speed is totally unacceptable.
  7. In VW 10.5, and for that matter every previous version, it seems that when a drawing reaches a certain level of complexity, VW will occasionally hang... "stuck thinking". Most often I see this when I'm do an undo command. Beachball, beachball, (snore sound here) beachball.
  8. Hi, I?m trying to do a simpel hidden line rendering of a table with two tv-monitors and a keyboard on, but it takes ages to render. like i said, I?m just trying to to do a hidden line rendering witch shouldent take more than a few seconds, but i takes about 15 minutes. This realy drives me crasy and more worse is that it slows my work down extremly.... If anyone have a clue what does this, pleeeease help me.... Kind Regards /
  9. Mr Anderson: I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the slow video response of version 9.01. Others on this message board have noted it as well. win 98, 600mhz, 356mb ram, 3dlabs 32mb CAD specific video card. I have tried various files on this machine as well as two other machines. All with the same result. Its not as fast as 8.5.2. And especially slow with converted 8.5.2 files. Since I understand this is now written for 64-bit technology, should I switch to win 2000 and a pentium 4 chip in order to take advantage of the full capability of the program? Is this a known flaw in the code? If so, will a patch be issued soon? Please help
  10. Some not all of my PCs are taking an age to print to the plotter in our office - up to 10 mins and it renders the PC unusable -- just freezes VW10.1.0 Windows 2000 SP3 Designjet is using the latest HP driver Anyone else seen this or anything like it.
  11. Using VW 9.5.2 on OS 10.14 with a G4 with 512 MB memory. brand new system with very clean machines but for some reason several people here are reporting an increasing sluggishness in VW and only in VW. it gets incredibly slow so that it becomes almost impossible to work on. file sizes are reasonable, usually around 4 or 5 M so i dont think that is the problem. Can anyone suggest what might be the cause of the problem?
  12. Is anyone else experiencing a major slow down with VA9? I'm on a G4 dual 450 w/640M of RAM and everything has slowed down. Going from different views can take up to 5 or 8 seconds; the new rendering tool is buggy (keep getting an error that I don't have enough K allocated to application - no matter how much I have allocated). What happened to Quicktime rendering? Has anyone found any work arounds. I like many of the new features in VA/RW 9 but don't like these slow downs and awkward rendering changes.
  13. I have just installed OSX and then updated to Vectorworks 9.5.2. When opening an older file I find that 9.5.2 is very slow, very jerky when moving walls/lines etc.I have searched this board a have found that others are happy with the prefomance in OSX - what did I do wrong? -Helpjavascript: x()
  14. Chris, if this is a document corruption, you may be able to solve it by transferring the data to another document. 1. Open a blank document. Set it up to have the same layers as your old doc. 2. Import the "System folder" from your old document to your new one. This will transfer your plant library. 3. Copy and paste the layers one by one to the new document. See if you see the slowdown.
  15. Mac OS 9.2.2 G4 500 120mb assigned to VW Since upgrading to VW9.5, the page setup dialog and the print dialog boxes are extremely slow to open. About 5 seconds each. Any idea why?
  16. When I select more than a few items ie. 129 objects trying to nudge them takes a very long time. But if I group them, it works fine. We are having this same problem on all six computers. Most of them are running on clean boots and the CPU, Ram, Video, and Motherboards are different on each.
  17. Discovered symbols with text slow spool times from seconds to minutes, more symbols more time.printing to epson 3000, all spec drivers etc.Using VW8.5.2 on a G4 PM 384MB Ram OS9.2 , but other computer no problem always spools in seconds starmax with350G3 L2 card 112MB. any help tried so many things?
  18. Just did a small drawing from in VW9.5, 3D model of a cottage, with a couple of perspectives and after working for about 20 min. it gets really slow. new computer amd 1600, xp pro, gig of ram, 64m video. any ideas...
  19. Two days ago I rendered a simple drawing to "Hidden Line"... today I cannot get it to even finish building it's list. when It does build the list it takes FOREVER... and then after 20 min it still has not begin to render... any hints as to what happened??
  20. I downloaded the current patch with no luck and as a last resort I turned of my VET virus checker and bingo ! it is running sweet I don't understand why but the virus checker running in the background was causing Vectorworks to grind to a halt or crash. Now I have to work out how to get the checker back on without again effecting VW Anyone got any ideas ? Hunter
  21. We run Vectoreworks on a school network (Novell), using Win 2000, VW8.5. The students have their drive access restricted in their login scipt so they are unable to access C:\ drive, although they can save to a partition (D:\).All their project files are saved on a network drive. Vectorworks lately has begun to load slowly - up to 5 mins for the program, and opening one of the work in progress files can take up to three minutes for a simple default file. This only occurs when logging on as student. I log on as teacher with substantial network rights and the program loading and file loading is good. Where is the bottleneck that is causing the program to run like a crippled snail?
  22. When I print from VW 9.5 it takes forever. As soon as I click OK to print to my HP 1000C, a printing progress window opens up and the program will not respond to anything until the entire 11x17 sheet is printed. This usually takes a minute or two, so the delay is annoying. Plotting to my ENCAD CadJet2 is worse. It can take 10 minutes or longer to send stuff to the plotter and my program is locked up the entire time. It takes hours to print a few sheets. I have W98 on a PC with 128mb ram and my plotter has extra ram as well, but this seems to make no difference. I am using the printers as windows printers. Is there another way or maybe a printer-specific driver for Vectorworks for the HP or Encad printers? I never had this problem with MiniCAD but ever since I converted to VectorWorks I have been frustrated.
  23. I'm a recently appointed network manager for a firm of architects using Apple Mac cpu's and VectorWorks. Most of the Macs are G3 or G4 units and I've recently updated them to MacOS v9.2.1. They all have around 200MB + RAM and are driving large (20") monitors at about 1150 x 870 pixels. Before upgrading from Mac OS 8.6 the redraw speed of the VectorWorks drawing was quicker then in Mac OS 9.2.1 and I can't figure out why. I've left the Apple OS installed ATI Rage driver extension on and tried leaving the ATI Radeon off but even in 256 colours the redraw is noticeably slower. The G3's show the problem not the G4's. The G3's have a ATI 3D RAGE Pro PCI chipped graphics card built-in on the Motherboard. The systems were using the following drivers before upgrading, but even if I put them back in it doesn't seem to do much for the systems performance: Apple IX3D Graphics Accelerator v1.0.4Apple IX3D RAVE Engine v1.0.4Apple IX3D Video Memory Manager v1.0.4 In the system profiler shows the following: Card Type - DisplayCard Name - ATI-Mach64-3DUProCard Mode - ATI, GT-CCard ROM - 113-XXXXX-1.1Rev - 92Vendor - 1002RAM - 2MB I know the VRAM is low but why has it only slowed down since upgrading the OS? The Office is a loyal user of VectorWorks and we would appreciate some assistance. Thanks in advance for a speedy reply.
  24. Anybody know why it takes 10 minutes for my Encad Cadjet2 plotter to fire up and start printing from the time I hit the print command? The screen locks up with a half-filled printing dialogue box and sits there for most of that time as if it has locked up and crashed. In VW8 I used to be able to print almost immediately to the plotter and continue working as it printed. Now its like pulling teeth. Even printing small drawings to an HP Deskjet 1000 takes longer than it had, although the wait here is only a minute or so.
  25. VW 14 with the current (first or second upgrade) is slow for me too. Sloooow. Very very slow. In fact so slow that most of my drawing, especially dimensioning does not work at all. I made a funny video where I rapidly draw 6 rects. In 2008 the rects are drawn right off the mouse moves. In 2009, the rects take another 6 seconds to completely draw after the mouse has stopped moving. I have a Mac Pro Dual Core Xeon with 5 gigs of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card at work. I have a similar but newer and higher spec version of the same thing at home, with a higher spec video card. Something GT, but probably desmo as well. I also run VW 2009 on an Intel Macbook Pro. The two Mac Pros are running two screens, one 30" and the other 23". It appears to be the screen size that causes the problems. VW 14 runs fine on the lapdog, and fine on the Mac Pro when only the 23" screen is attached. Change to the 30" screen and things go slow as glue again. Start without extensions etc in safe mode and things are even slower... so never mind about that. The point is, VW 13 (AKA 2008) is perfectly fast. It is only VW 14 which is unuseably slow. And I mean seriously unuseably slow. There's another post somewhere about speed where Sean F claims users enjoy a certain lag. For me, it is just like using a phone with a delay. The feedback circuits go wrong, and you can't talk. Hanging up is the only option. Which is what I am thinking of doing with 2009. Is this delay or slow speed a problem for others still, or is it something unusual about my configuration? DMcD Mac Pro 2.66 Xeon stuff NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Desmo 30" and 23" Cinema displays. Mouse and keyboard.
