  1. Your smart tag mock-up would address my concerns. From what I have seen, ArchiCAD's Label tool has similar functionality in that it can tag elements inside wall assemblies.
  2. For the most part I agree. Right now, as you correctly stated, you have to have different wall styles if the only difference is just the paint colors. (Your formula doesn't include how many more wallstyles you need when you factor in using Stories with Levels). Where I'm concerned about your proposal is you would no longer be able to look at a Wall on the screen and know what its assemblies are, unless you click on it. I guess I'm not certain of the best way to acheve what you're asking, but I agree that the current Vw approach requires more wallstyles than seems necessary. Currently, I just juggle 30+ different wall types.
  3. Since Mental Ray for C4D (now Nvidia's Iray for Cinema 4D) is available as a plug-in only on Windows and not on Mac OS, I would doubt it. Hopefully, newer version of Vectorworks will have better 2-way file interchange with C4D, so all of your renderings that require that level of realism could be handled more easily by C4D.
  4. I completely agree with reducing white space, but I would not want to see the signatures move to the top if it meant that the height of the box containing the users name, reputation, etc was not a consistent height forum-wide. Some user signatures are quite tall compared to others, and including the signatures at the top could be counterproductive by increasing the amount of white space. (Additionally, by putting the signature at the top it would give it too much graphic importance, in my opinion, as the signature should be secondary to the text in the post). I'd prefer that the signatures stay at the bottom, but they should have a maximum pixel height assigned to them, as well as a maximum font size with 1.0 line spacing. I like the feature that the signatures have a little check box at the right where you can hide a specific user's signature. Having that signature display check box at the top would be a little strange, in my opinion. But - I agree that at least the posts and reputation could be compressed by having them stacked vertically with the numbers to the right instead of below. Example: Posts: 1964 Reputation: +2
  5. Sam- Since there isn't dedicated 'Forum Feedback' section, you can add a 'forum' tag to the post which will make it easier to find all the forum design related posts.
  6. Autodesk Recap files (with an .RCP extension) are a proprietary file format, and are likely to be only readable in Autodesk products. Ask your surveyor to send you the point cloud file in one of the other point cloud file formats that Vw2016 can read: .laz, .las, .pts, .e57, and .xyz file formats. Note: The ability to import point cloud files was introduced in Vectorworks 2016, so you will have to upgrade to at least 2016. (Or you could wait several weeks and get 2017).
  7. From another thread on this topic, following on Peter's reply, if you have SketchUp you can use NanaWall's plugin to create the multi-panel door and then import that into Vw as your custom door geometry.
  8. Buying a new computer with an Intel processor is going to become more confusing now that Intel has rebranded their mobile line of processors: Intel Rebrands Core M Line as Core i : Laptop Mag
  9. Gotcha- thanks JimW. I missed that other post.
  10. I'm not seeing any images that were inserted into posts from the old forum. All I see is what appears to be a broken link starting with 'ubbthreads.php'. Maybe all the old image links need to be redirected for the new forum? example post : X-ray doesn't work when working with subdivision objects
  11. It would make using the Vectorworks Cloud Services so much easier if there were a 'Package and Send' command that would gather up everything needed by your file and automatically copy and upload everything to your Cloud Services folder. That means referenced .vwx files, images, PDFs and most importantly fonts. Right now, for me anyways, I have to wait until the endless string of automated emails telling me what fonts are missing. Then I try and find the matching font, which isn't easy as the font's name is not the same as its file name. Some of the fonts I don't even remember selecting, like 'System Font Regular'. An automated 'Package and Send' solution would also make things easier for sending working files to outside consultants.
  12. You could also try a demo of either SteerMouse or USB Overdrive to rule out it being a configuration / driver or OS issue. I had a basic Microsoft USB mouse that was having issues in OS X 10.11 which were resolved by installing SteerMouse.
  13. I've been noticing this as well. Only one SLVP on the original sheet numbered 1, duplicate the Sheet and the SLVP on the duplicated Sheet is now numbered 3. Smells like a bug to me.
  14. Thanks JimW. I restarted my iPad and all the videos seem to be working fine now.
  15. Well I guess they could respond by saying that Subdivision objects are made of lead, and therefore X-Ray Vision is useless.
  16. It may be an iOS ( or me) only problem since it involves every one I try, I'll have to test on my desktop.
  17. Benson - It looks like BlueBeam Revu can also renumber page labels: Revu 11 - Page Labels But the Mac and iPad versions of Bluebeam cannot currently create Page Labels
  18. Not sure if it's just me and my tablet, but every KBase video that I have tried this morning doesn't work: Knowledge Base Videos The Vectorworks YouTube channel videos do seem to still be working. Maybe related to the impending forum switchover?
  19. 1. To create a 3D custom nosing for your stair, you'd have to ungroup the Stair object and directly model what you want the nosing to look like. There's no way to have a custom nosing profile and keep it a parametric stair, so only ungroup the Stair once you have all the other geometry the way you want it. It depends on your needs, but personally, I would forget about making a custom 3D nosing and accept that the 3D stair is not 100% correct. Just show the correct custom nosing profile in a separate 2D detail and leave the Stair alone. 2. Take a look at this YouTube video on
  20. What's that saying about the squeaky wheel getting the grease — I'm going to start bumping this topic this every week until it gets addressed. Any hope that this will be addressed soon? I'd still like to hear the argument for keeping it as designed, which is 'Broken as Designed' as far as I'm concerned. If no one can come up with a compelling reason to keep it as-is, then it should be classified as 'broken' and it should be fixed. How difficult can it be to put it back to its previous default behavior?
  21. Benson, without buying Acrobat Pro (or something similar) I'm not sure you'll be able to change the page numbers. (Even Acrobat Pro X is limited in that it will renumber your page as A100 or A101, but it can't do A1.00 or A1.01 - It doesn't like periods in the page number. And if the numbers are not sequential, you have to renumber each page manually). Do they accept PDF Bookmarks as matching your Sheet Numbers? If so, Batch PDF automatically creates PDF bookmarks with your Sheet Titles, and they're easy to modify in Preview or whatever. Acrobat Pro (maybe others) allows you to set the Initial view for the document, so when they open the PDF they would see the 'Bookmarks Panel and Page' instead of 'Pages Panel and Page'. Maybe that would meet their requirement. Just a thought.
  22. The standard cabinet tools do require 2d annotation lines to show dashed base cabinets below counters. [The issues with the cabinet tools are long-standing]. Here's a thread that might give you some ideas of other workarounds regarding countertops: How to cut a sink into a countertop The link to the movie in the first post is broken, which is good - as it's the standard Vectorworks not-very-good solution. Scroll to the end for better solutions.
  23. michaelk - thanks for posting these scripts, they look like they'll be pretty handy.
  24. Don't bother with using either the Countertop ('draw counter' checkbox) in the Base Cabinet or the Countertop tool: Just use a Floor object for the countertop - it works much better. You can clip your sink templates out of the floor and it works just fine. As far as your other points, yes - the Cabinet tools do need improvement (certainly regarding texturing, which is not very good). But I have been able to use the standard Vw Base / Wall / Storage Cabinets for 'most' of my usual kitchen cabinets. Only occasionally have I had to ungroup and break the Cabinet PIO in order to get what I want. I also have accepted that graphically it may not be 100% to my liking, but I've found it to be good enough to get the design point across. You can also try michaelk's Cabinet and Countertop Scripts. He made a bunch of scripts that will quickly lay out a group of cabinet PIOs and a countertop (floor object). I haven't used them very much, but it might help you with the countertop at least. HTH.
