  1. @Jalkana The eyedropper tool might be what you're looking for. You can use it to transfer attributes, including class visibilities and overrides, between viewports within the same document. https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2020/eng/index.htm#t=VW2020_Guide%2FAttributes%2FTransferring_attributes.htm Watch out for the "Pick Up Sets Defaults" checkbox. You probably want to leave this unchecked in most cases.
  2. On Mac you can also look in the help system files: Applications -> VW -> VWHelp -> HTML5 -> VW2020_Guide ->.... I found that location when I was looking for the icon for the GIS Toolset, which I never found. I migrated my workspace from 2019 to 2020, and it did not bring in the new icon for the GIS toolset. If anyone knows where to find (or a VW employee can upload) this icon it would be appreciated.
  3. I believe you can use the Eyedropper tool to pick up dimension standards from one VP and drop them on the others. Double-click on the tool to open the Eyedropper Preferences. You can save the settings for future use. Watch out for the "Pick Up Sets Default" checkbox. https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2020/eng/index.htm#t=VW2020_Guide%2FAttributes%2FTransferring_attributes.htm
  4. While it sounds appealing, I'm not sure this is the way to go. What happens if you annotate two details in a single viewport but then decide that you need to move one to another sheet? The system would need to allow for separate VPs for each detail, but allow you to enter all of the VPs on a single sheet at the same time. That would allow for a a better workflow without having to jump in & out of different VPs, while not locking individual details (or elevations, sections, etc) to a specific spot on a specific sheet.
  5. No organization at all. In the rare case I need to find something I can sort by file name and date. My only use for these files is in case of a VW crash since my last save or if I head down the wrong path and need to exceed the number of available undos. They aren't my "real" backup for file preservation purposes. I have Time Machine, cloud backup, and weekly offsite backup taking care of that.
  6. I just posted another relevant tip to another thread: I use a separate external drive specifically for automatic backup files. It keeps things off my main drive(s). You can set the save location from Vectorworks (menu)-> Preferences... -> Autosaves -> Autosave a backup copy to -> A custom location -> Choose...

  8. @JuanP Even if measurements are in metric, I think US users will be able to follow the concepts. I'd appreciate access to additional webinars as well. Thanks.
  9. Thanks. I have a heavily modified workspace, so rebuilding from scratch would be a real pain and waste of time. I removed the VCSlogin item from the cloud menu. Will anything break now that I removed it? Was this a menu item that was removed from 2020? If so, it is not shown in the list of “removed menu items (legacy)” in the workspace editor.
  10. I'm trying to install VW2020 on a new Mac, and am getting a "VCSLOGIN not in plugins folder" notice at the top of the "Cloud" menu. How do I fix this? Thanks.
  11. I'm still on 2019, and am looking forward to using the added/improved hardscape tool once I update. Any chance of getting the retaining wall added to Architect in a 2021 SP? Almost every project I work on has retaining walls. I don't understand the logic of restricting this particular site modifier to VW Landmark users. Edit: Updated to request for VW 2021SP. @Tamsin Slatter, any chance this will happen? 2022? I'm assuming this is a business decision, rather than a technical issue.
  12. @Tamsin Slatter It looks like VW Landmark does have a retaining wall site modifier (https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2020/eng/index.htm#t=VW2020_Guide%2FSiteModel2%2FCreating_retaining_walls.htm) that @A McDonell is asking about. Why is this not available to VW Architect users? Edit: Looks like there's a wishlist item for this. Please visit & vote up @ the top left corner.
  13. @Amorphous - Julian I agree that the tools are awkward and could use some reworking. I’ve found it easier to delete and start over rather than editing wall recesses. Push/pull functionality is a good idea.
  14. For Mac OS you can update the logo manually: 1. Create any icon you want. I am attaching a file with an inverted B&W option. 2. Copy the image. 3. Select the VW application file in the Finder 4. Choose File -> Get Info 5. Select the icon in the top left corner of the info window. 6. Paste the image. 7. Close the Info window. If you have VW permanently in the Dock, you will need to remove it, launch VW, then add it back to "Keep in Dock" I'm guessing there's a similar option for Windows VW Logo Inverted.ico
  15. You might be able to get some or all of the functionality you're looking for with: Add & subtract 3D object from slab (AEC Menu -> Add 3D object to Slab...) https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2020/eng/index.htm#t=VW2020_Guide%2FFloors_slabs%2FEditing_slab_geometry_with_3D_modifiers.htm Wall projections and recesses (AEC Menu -> Create Wall Projection) https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2020/eng/index.htm#t=VW2020_Guide%2FWalls%2FCreating_wall_features.htm
  16. Could you be picking up & applying class and/or layer attributes that are set to invisible, such that the object is not deleted, but is made invisible?
  17. @Tamsin Slatter Thanks for reconfirming. Is this noted anywhere in the VW documentation or help system? I can't seem to find it. If it's not there, I'd recommend adding it because it is so much easier in many circumstances.
  18. @Kevin K I think this is possible by creating a 3d polygon and changing its class to Site-DTM-Modifier which is the automatically created class for modifiers. I believe I learned this trick from @Jonathan Pickup and don’t know if it’s anywhere in the VW documentation.
  19. @Matt Panzer Since VW already has a wishlist database, how about setting up a formal online system for users to up & down vote the existing wishlist database items. It seems like after the up front work in setting this up, it would save a lot of VW employee and user time and allow VW to tailor the software to meet user needs.
  20. Based on my increasing use of the VW kbase, I'm realizing that there is some really good "secret" help content, tutorials, and sample files available somewhere at VW HQ, but that is not accessible to us users. It would be nice if the powers that be at VW would make all of the files created by VW staff available and searchable, perhaps within the framework of VW University. It's great content, and serves as an excellent supplement to the help system. Here are some examples of the type of content I'm referring to (all by @Wes Gardner):
  21. I've been using the VW University portal, and appreciate having the resources readily available in a single location. It would be very helpful for VW to add a "sort by date" option so that new content can be easily accessed. The current sort by name or filter by category does not help with this at all. It would also be nice if the course thumbnail and/or description indicated which version of VW the content was created for so we know how "stale" it is. Thanks.
