  1. Well that seems better than my normal method of duplicating multiple copies of the roof making them thin and clipping the profiles to get the Ridges, Hips and standing seams even rafter tails.
  2. Thanks this will be very useful. Other tools do look handy as well so I think I'll probably sending some money Andrea's way shortly. Curious about how you do Ridge, Hip cappings and Gutters for that matter? I guess you haven't found a way to do valley gutters.
  3. Yes please. Although I think autocomplete text would be useful generally. This would be a good use getting it give you the next number in the sequence.
  4. It would be incredibly useful if this dialogue box had option to create a duplicate of the current symbol and replace the current selected version with that copy.
  5. All model cut sections in the marketing material have been dressed to show both structural and elevation grids. So someone in the company understands it's important.
  6. Co-ordinated by hand so they remain a significant legal liability of the current system. To me Vectorworks isn't BIM till I can define grid lines in one place and have them appear everywhere I need them to. This comment applies to vertical grids (Storey Levels) and other organising plan lines like boundaries as well.
  7. Convenience mostly? Option 1 is useful when you haven't done option 2 before going to make the viewport. Then again not sure why you would have done option 2 first if you want to make a viewport. Still would be odd if there was no new button in that interface and well legacy referencing needs the button.
  8. It seems (command `) no longer switches between active files. Bug or deleted feature?
  9. Vw2017 up and running on test machine tonight. I really have to concur who ever is signing off on the ui isn't eating their own dog food as they say in design land.
  10. Is this "likely" to happen in the near future? Even in simple forms like asyncing and even delaying complex operations to allow user interaction to continue on main thread. Was surprised Curtain Walls are effectively unusable if you ever need to edit them in 3D. Seeing they seem to try and calculate full geometry of the new wall for every screen frame of user editing.
  11. Yes please. Given the attributes palette is possibly one of the oldest palettes in the programme, I think it's high time it was thrown out and restarted from scratch. So much function has been added that this palette just doesn't play well with.
  12. Just have to remember in the future to try right click before google.
  13. Thanks, It's always in the last place you look.
  14. Is there a way to turn a roof object with a few components into a roof style that can then be applied to other roofs? Yes, yes dumb mistake on my part not making the style first, still seems like there should be an obvious way to do this but its very well hidden.
  15. Tom, I saw this today and maybe useful for finding allies in your offices conversion to BIM. http://www.archdaily.com/796478/not-ready-for-bim-here-are-5-reasons-you-may-be-wrong
  16. Well to be fair Richard D's core idea of hybrid drafting, in that the 2D drawn language has always been 3D in the designers mind and the software could learn that language, was a big reason to be optimistic. To me True 3D is always going to be 5-7 years away for the simple reason I can't get things built in 3D, even the robotic systems we have today almost all convert the 3D model to a series to thin planes.
  17. I had a look at this last year as our server raid was looking iffy (luckily was a harddrive not enclosure issue). The best recommendation that came back from a couple of people who would normally build their own servers was to look at Synology raids. You can buy a pair and cloud sync them together in-house for the big initial transfer then move one offsite. One is onsite so as long as you have power in the office you have access. Plus you get syncing apps for most mobile platforms to let you access data with as much security control as you'd get with any of the cloud vendors. It seems to be a best of both worlds as the still hold all the data in your control and hardware.
  18. Other than needing manual coordination of drawing tags I don't see the problem with tight crops section veiwports heavily annotated for details.
  19. Also windows and doors produce a lot of fine geometry that isn't going to be visible at that sort of scale. You might get away with just showing glass and door and get rid of frames and sashes other fine details.
  20. People have been saying this for what 10+ years now and it's not any more true today than it was back then for many and varied reasons all mostlyto do with contract boundaries. This to me is why the October 2016 release is called 2017. Allows time for "Open Beta", a couple of service packs and office system updates over the Christmas close with new year training for staff to help re-motivate people for the new year. Not adverse to say monthly service packs and rolling take up of features in the release (like say Plug-in styles being rolled out across all stock plug-in objects) but major features need planning to work in to the production stream.
  21. To me I only really want to have two windows open of the same file one with the model view and the other with the Target Drawing sheet. Never really understood the splitting the screen in to 4 equal panels, I think I'd probably just turn it off in short order . So if it is multiple panels tied to the same window 2 or 3 additional smaller views along the bottom edge keeping a large view top and centre as a main working view would be very helpful. with a hot key to switch focus between but have the smaller views for keeping an eye on effects.
  22. There are many times in the project that I find myself flicking between the main tab of OIP and the other tabs for example debugging renders being able to see class setting and render settings at same time instead of flicking between to tabs. I think Records would be used more if not so obscured. Also playing with Marionette It would seem very easy to get OIP's with screens of setting and even less control than what Plug-in objects have to control presentation. A better way to present all this information with user control over what we want to focus on would be very helpful.
  23. Yes please... Also an alternative horizontal Attributes palette is clearly needed to work well in the new system.
  24. And the solution proposed is still the best, make plans just sections that look down. Or look up for reflected ceiling plans. This is exactly how it was explained to me first time I had to draw one on the old drawing board. It's not really that big leap in terms of mental or computer model given clip cube can plan section on the fly already.
