  1. I've had similar issues, but I simply stopped using image fills. Looks like a bug/fix to me.
  2. +1 There are so many instances where this would be useful. Garage floors, flat roofs (to roof drains), driveways, sidewalks, ramps etc.
  3. Doors and Windows have lots to be desired in Vectorworks but that is for another forum. You could model something out along with the door but of course this does take more time but...you get the look you want. Simply turn the model and door into a symbol. I've had to do this in some circumstances but once its done you've got it for other projects.
  4. For anyone else with this issue. It would appear that I have to edit the 3D symbol and ungroup every group and re-group everything together.
  5. Does anybody have any answers to rotating entourage vehicles in 3D? For example, I have a sloped driveway and I want to match that slope with the vehicle so that I'm not sinking into the virtual driveway. I'm finding that not all the vehicles from the different collections are modelled the same way. Some vehicles seem to have double skins making changing colours difficult. I've opened the symbol and selected everything and tried to rotate but only some of the components rotated. I've tried grouping everything in the symbol and I still get parts not rotating as though it was locked but is not. This should be a very simple thing to do and I'm getting frustrated with it. Wish List: be able to rotate any entourage vehicle to suite modelling conditions without some work around.
  6. Hi amandamo, I don't use stories at all. I simply use layers. I work on a few split level house plans so I know the frustration you're experiencing. Simply make a layer for every level you've got, split or otherwise. For example "Main Floor" 0 elevation, "Upper Floor" 10'-0" elevation, and "Front Entry" 5'-0" elevation. Front entry being the split level that for instance maybe half way between the main floor and the upper floor. This isn't a sure fire answer for every situation as there are other factors in place such as the materials/walls you may be using at the different levels. Sometimes you have to deviate to get the "look" you want and the information you want to show. Hope this helps. There are other posts here that get into bigger discussions on the use of Stories and Layers. I do wish though that there was a method using stories to address split levels. Cheers.
  7. +1 Agreed. The little colour swatches often get washed out and do not accurately reflect the true colour your choosing.
  8. Two monitors here. Most of my palettes are on my right screen. I do keep my tools pinned on my working screen to keep them close for quick access. I like keeping as much work/drawing space available for a big close-up picture. When I first started my career in drafting I was using a 17inch crt monitor. Gotta wonder sometimes how it was ever done, though tablets were very common then too and many tools and symbols were accessed from the tablet. Dual monitors is a huge asset and well worth a couple hundred bucks for a decent monitor. Cheers.
  9. I can certainly find what I want amongst all that I've customized, it's the ease of accessing some of it that I want. (Walls, slabs, hatches, tiles, templates, dimension styles, etc.) and then the same would apply to a second workstation
  10. Walls/slabs would be a similar scenario so when I select the wall tool and then select the drop down tool I want to see all the walls that I use (that *.vwx wall file being on the network, not on my workstation).
  11. I see that. But what about items that can be accessed by dialog box for example hatches. I want to access what would be typical in the default location to be on the network. I've tried to do that but all I have then is a blank dialog box with nothing to select because it's not (what it appears) accessing the network location. I'm either missing something or not understanding something.
  12. I'd like to put my Libraries on a network drive and have Vectorworks access the library from there (instead of the default location on my computer), As well as a second workstation that way when I'm adding, removing or updating resources, I'm doing it at the network location and the two workstations automatically have access to the "revised/updated" resources with out doing extra copying and pasting. Is there a way to change/edit this default location?
  13. +1 I find the bounding box to be ambiguous. Is there more to the object you can't see? Groups are like that too.
  14. All the best Jean. I find your strip tool very interesting and may consider it in the future.
  15. Sorry I should have clarified. I have been exporting from sheet layers, not design layers. The attached images are what I'm getting. I just don't see any other options in the dialogue box. 1st pic is done by "exporting viewports as 2D graphics in Model Space". It just produces jpegs. 2nd pic is not using "exporting viewports as 2D graphics in Model Space" but I'm getting a wire framed mess. 3rd pic is a screen shot of my exporting options.
  16. I need to export a townhouse project to an engineer. It seems sending floor plans is not a problem as it comes out as you expect but when exporting elevations all I get is a 3D wire frame mess. Now I have tried exporting as 2D graphics in model space but then it's just referenced jpgs. Is there no way to get elevations to become clean 2D linework without the 3D mess behind it?
  17. I've only seen individual pieces. The 3D Warehouse for sketchup has quite a few models.
  18. Nice list zoomer. I think I give a +1 to most of that. I find in general that I'd like to be able to grab nodes from 3D objects and move them where ever I like to be easier. 1 All nodes in a mesh should be visible once the reshape tool is chosen rather than having to cycle thru the object to highlight the node I want to change. 2 With all those nodes visible I should be able to pick which ever one I want by pick and drag or selection marquee and input xyz. 3 When moving a node it should naturally be attached to the node of an adjacent 3d polygon so that both polygons are reshaped at the same time. 4 The same common nodes should also be able to be separated and rejoined when needed. 3D Studio has a "weld" "unweld" function. I love that VW is in so many ways a complete package but it's 3D modeling tools need more options. zoomer has made a good list of them. Happy New Year everybody!
  19. Hi Benson, Can't say I have solutions but I feel your pain. In plans I've done that have many different levels I simply made different copies of the same wall configuration. Unlike REVIT you cannot modify a wall in a particular location with out affecting all the others. Would be a great feature for a future version. Wish List. As for walls not joining together...I find I need to join what I need for floor plans and then join walls I need for 3d visuals otherwise its making 3D objects to fill in the gaps. Doesn't look clean though. Windows and doors are a big headache and need an overhawl. Parametrically they need tweaking and need more options. I've spent to much time at times trying to get sashes to sit where I want them or thresholds to look as they should thats when I make a symbol of them to kind of freeze them. I find some features to be unstable and unpredictable like trim interior vs exterior I've had it switch on me. So is the window (as it were) pointing in or out? For the many great things I can say about Vectorworks and I'm still very new to it, there are things that need and can be fixed and make it out of this world. This has turned into a bit of a rant.
  20. Isn't it wonderful when you discover the answers on your own. Next time right click in the browser or anywhere for that matter and see what you can do. Solved! For those others who maybe are having the same problem "I had". Right click inside the resource browser and you will find thumbnail views (thats the pic representing your resource) and thumbnail render modes. Look inside each of these options and a host of further options comes up to allow you to see your resources almost any way you want. Cheers.
