  1. Thank you for the reply. I wonder if you could take a look also at this thread: https://forum.vectorworks.net/index.php?/topic/51856-vw-2018-and-vw2021-push-pull-tool-problems-continue/page/3/ On that page I have posted a file where I believe you may be able to replicate the problem I see with the push-pull tool. I haven't managed to get any response from anyone at VW. It seems to me that the problems with the push-pull tool and the problems covered by the bugs above have something in common. In all cases invisible, or wrong, faces are being selected. This is such a basic aspect of VW's functionality, it's quite disappointing not to see any evidence of attempts to get it fixed.
  2. @Matt Panzer are you able to give us any update on the above bugs? None of them appear to have been fixed in VW2021 SP3.
  3. I have done a bit more testing now to try and pin down the conditions under which I see this problem. The following might allow others to test whether they see similar. SP3 for VW2021 solved a separate issue of the viewpoint suddenly jumping to miles away but I don't think it has resolved what I am seeing here. I am now running VW2021 SP3, on Big Sur, on a new M1 mac mini. I have a 3dconnexion SpaceMouse Pro (wired type). I believe that I start to see problems in the main VW window when I have also a floating view pane open on a second monitor. (Under these conditions, I see the same behaviour in the floating view pane) The following screen recordings are all of a portion of the main VW window on the primary monitor. I have used a relatively large/complex file. Test 1: OpenGL view in 'orthogonal' mode. Zoom in and out using 3dconnexion device pushing joystick forward and backwards. First with no floating view pane active. It's not perfectly smooth but not bad: Screen Recording 2021-03-19 at 12.54.30.mov Now with a floating view pane active on a second monitor (we are still looking at the main VW window though): Screen Recording 2021-03-19 at 12.53.40.mov The stuttering I am seeing is visible around the 10 second mark as well as elsewhere. Test 1: OpenGL view in 'normal perspective' mode. Zoom in and out using 3dconnexion device pushing joystick forward and backwards. First with no floating view pane active. Again it's not perfectly smooth but the occasional stutter is not too bad: Screen Recording 2021-03-19 at 12.59.30.mov And now with a floating view pane active on a secondary monitor (again, recording is still of the main VW window). Screen Recording 2021-03-19 at 12.58.56.mov To me it's obvious that the stuttering is now considerably worse.
  4. Ah, cheers. I will look out for that. It's certainly long been annoying that I can accidentally undock a palette (or accidentally close it). I'll keep an eye out for this change.
  5. Today I took the leap and moved from my old mac pro to an M1 mini. This was prompted by the release of 2021 SP3 which has hopefully sorted out the "random jumping" problem affecting 3dconnexion devices, which is what was stopping me from moving so far. The migration process was easier than I expected. Just migrated from a time machine backup of my old machine, and no really major issues. Over the next few days I guess I'll get to find out if there are any nasty hidden surprises but fingers crossed...
  6. @Alia Brookshire one of the tricky things with EAPs is that if the "profile" is not perpendicular to the "path" you can end up with funny results. It looks a bit like that might be happening with yours? Hence the twist in the curve. There are also various options within EAP to "lock profile plane" and suchlike. Inbetween times I forget exactly what each of them does, and sometimes a bit of trial and error is necessary. Vectorworks helps you here by having hardly any documentation anywhere about exactly how EAPs work so it's all a bit of a mystery sometimes.
  7. You might manage to make it work by using two stair objects - one for the first flight plus landing then another for the rest?
  8. I am new to twinmotion and have only fiddled with it a little bit so far, on the mac mini. I tried exporting two VW models (one of them quite large) in C4d format; both seemed to go into Twinmotion OK without any obvious problems. But after a while of navigating around, I found that twinmotion would freeze up completely, the only solution being to restart the computer. This happened several times and happen in both models. That was before I updated Big Sur to 11.2.3; I haven't tried it again since.
  9. Oh. I'd understood that this let us have a live link already. But evidently not. So no actual advantage at this point?
  10. Stepping a little outside the scope of what we've actually been asked to comment on.... I would say that whenever something is a nightmare to model, it's quite likely it'll be a nightmare to build too. Put another way, if it's difficult to define to Vectorworks what needs to happen then it may be difficult to define to a builder too. If this gets built will it be a perfectly smooth curved plane? Probably not - it will probably be faceted in some way. Therefore, it may make sense to thing of it constructionally and therefore model it faceted from the outset. Facets will not easily work where you have double curvature - but if you end up with double curvature it might be a clue from the modelling gods that the roof design is not feasible. I realise this may be unwelcome commentary!
  11. I have not noticed this specifically but have had a few occasions in 2021 where I just can't select anything in OpenGL (I won't even get the orange selected item highlight).
  12. I've just updated to SP3 and it looks like this problem might now be fixed. (VW2021, Big Sur, Mac Mini M1, wired spacemouse pro) Would be interested to hear whether others find similar. Meanwhile, I hope not to be back posting on here that the problem has returned after a few hours of use.
  13. I'm not sure Kevin K's solution is going to solve your problem because I don't think that method is going to adapt to the complexities of the roof you want to create. For example an Extrude-along-path has to have a constant profile and your roof is wider and narrower at different points. But maybe it can be split into sections? You probably need to post a copy of your file to let people see exactly what geometry you need to fit to.
  14. More testing. - It's the same in wireframe or OpenGL - I get exactly the same behaviour with the "extract face" tool. - The wall objects had negative height. I changed that to positive. I didn't change the viewpoint. Similar happens as before, but when the "wrong" wall highlights, it's not actually related to hovering over the other wall object; it happens if I hover over the same portion of the screen which now has no objects in sight. The face is somehow being erroneously highlighted in response to the cursor being somewhere else altogether. I suspect this might be over-riding the correct face being highlighted, in certain situations. Screen Recording 2021-03-16 at 13.13.51.mov
  15. Can I bump this to ask if anyone else can replicate the above? (Thanks @hollister design Studio for already doing so) Is anyone from Vectorworks looking at this thread?
  16. This is exactly the kind of thing that vectorworks is a bit rubbish at modelling, I'd say, so will be interested to see what solutions are offered. I think I might try with the loft tool but would be accepting that it will be segmented to some extent, and making sure that the segmentation is tidy and regular.
  17. Yes. See this thread especially the last few pages. Some speed comparisons which might be useful for you are posted there:
  18. I recently had problems trying to use an evaluation licence, which I wanted to test on two different machines. It wouldn't allow me to activate it on machine no. 2 because it seemed to think I'd already used one on that machine (I couldn't have - the machine was brand new). My VW rep deactivating it on machine no. 1 didn't work, and they could not work out any way to fix it. In the end they had to request a new number from VW HQ and the whole process took several days thanks to time zones and a weekend in the middle.
  19. Thanks. And you're on 2021 on a PC, is that right? I commonly find with this problem, that changing the viewpoint will make something work. In the case of that file, if I move around I can stop it happening. But I am able to then find some viewpoints where it repeats.
  20. I have isolated two walls into a single file. The file is attached. There's one saved view which should replicate what you see in the screen recording below. I'd be interested if anyone could replicate the troublesome behavior of the push-pull tool you can see here: Screen Recording 2021-03-12 at 20.32.44.mov PPT.vwx
  21. Thanks. Snap settings don't seem to change things. Do your models have architectural objects like walls, slabs, windows etc? Because I have a feeling that the problem may be worse when these kinds of objects are present.
  22. Sometimes having an object selected makes it slightly more likely that the PPT will work on it. Actually, an additional step of selecting an object before using the PPT, if that made things work, would be irritating but far less irritating than the current situation. Sometimes I resort to putting something into a group, then editing within the group with "show other objects" switched off, just to get the PPT to work. I'm a bit mystified why there aren't lots of people complaining about this. Is it because it's only me having the issues, because of some weird hardware combination? Or is it that actually only a tiny fraction of VW users actually try and model in 3d like this?
