gman19
Hello, I have a colleague that has a grey screen. When I open mine it has a white screen? When CADs are loaded they will load but they are not see-able due to it being grey. Is there a way to turn this off? Thanks Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 21, 2018 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 21, 2018 Reply back with the following from the affected machine please: This looks like it might be a graphics issue, or may need the workspace reset. Quote Link to comment
gman19
All graphic related. Thank you JIm. Quote Link to comment
collins
Hi @PVA - Jim, I have the same issue for mac, how do I solve it? Thanks Quote Link to comment
collins
This is the blank screen I get when starting up a file. Is it because I have a few open? (I need to have them all open at the same time to work on them but can close them if it will sort it) Quote Link to comment
gman19
Hi Collins, I cannot remember exactly what I did to fix it. I think it was in Vector Works preferences. Go in to Tool, Options, Select Vector Works preferences. There are 6 tabs or so in there. If the issue was not there then I believe we had to go into the video card options. We are on windows and we had Nvidia cards. You Tube had always been a great source to solve problems as well. I see from my post above I replied that it was all graphic related. Quote Link to comment
collins
Thanks gman, couldn't ind it in the end but I'm just having to not opening as many files.. Quote Link to comment
collins
OK, which bit of this is not correct? Quote Link to comment
gman19
Hi Collins, I looked at all of my preferences to yours. There are minimal to no differences. If I recall the issue with 2018 was we were given Windows laptops with a seperate video card and the video card had to be updated in NVIDIA setting then the VW program had to use the NVIDIA settings. I still have to set up the graphics card even in the VW 2020 version I have now. I get an error at start up and we had to google how to fix that as well. Again into NVIDIA and have VW use NVIDIA 1 Quote Link to comment

collins
I didn’t find a solution to my 2015 MacBook and just presumed the graphics card was not up to it. I still get the grey screen but would love to know the actual solution. Quote Link to comment
justinekwood
I have just got this issue. My screen looks like below. I have VW 2019 and a 2019 MacBook Pro 15" with 16GB memory - only 20% used and graphics: Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB How do I reformat the graphics to work? Is it in settings and then in VW settings? No IT support here so it is just me and an urgent project to deliver. I can't open a file I was working on yesterday or should I say I can't see it. Layers and classes are all there in drop downs just not visible. Quote Link to comment

Click the Layers button in the OIP. Set the visibility of layers for that Viewport. Or even better, take a look at the VW Title Block Border object. It is designed to be placed on the Sheet Layer with the viewports but give you the ability to edit the project information across all the TBBs in the file or the Sheet information for just that single TBB. justinekwood
Thanks Pat. How do I do that? I would find TBBs for different sheets really useful but have never found a way to do it. Is there a tutorial anywhere? Quote Link to comment

If it's turned on, try turning it off, restart the computer, make sure the preference remains off and try Vectorworks again. Quote Link to comment
justinekwood
Thanks Gunther - it was and I have turned off. I will hope for the best. Quote Link to comment
collins
Hi Justine, Did this work for you? Quote Link to comment
Hanna N
I have the same problem as Justine. All in a sudden I can't see any of my files in VW. It is all grey. I have a deadline tomorrow and none of the files I am working with in VW are visible. I tried to follow Gunter's advice about the energy setting but there is no 'Automatic graphics switching' on my MAC settings. I remember seeing something about NIVIDA. I think it may be the problem. What is it and how do I resolve the issue? A bit of an urgency to say the least. Quote Link to comment
