Markvl
I get a notice as I open 2017 to start work. Update libraries. Oh sweet...new content! So I promptly go to VSS and go to my usual sections that apply to me and...zip, zero, nada. It's all in the entertainment section. Let's share the love. 1 Quote Link to comment
rDesign
Nothing against new Entertainment content, but I agree 100%. And on top of that, there haven’t been any new VSS Training or How-To videos released for Vw2018. Edited June 1, 2018 by rDesign 1 Quote Link to comment
Markvl
The libraries in general have given everyone a little something. 14 minutes ago, rDesign said: And on top that, there haven’t been any new VSS Training or How-To videos released for Vw2018. I agree. It's felt a little like rain or drought. Edited June 1, 2018 by Markvl 1 Quote Link to comment

For the moment it's all being pushed straight to youtube, got some upgrades for how you get that content planned and in the works now. 2 Quote Link to comment

In that case, perhaps this line quoted below from the Service Select page should be revised (emphasis mine), since those training videos were included as part of the benefits of a paid VSS subscription (not free on YouTube). Quote Vectorworks Service Select is a maintenance agreement that provides customers with several added benefits, including immediate upgrade of new product releases, the best pricing, priority technical support, VIP access to downloads, and an always-growing library of on-demand learning tutorials. You’ll also have the premier level of storage with Vectorworks Cloud Services at 20 GB (over the standard 2 GB). Quote Link to comment

(Because the VSS Site is so slow for me) Also YouTube has Search and Playlists which helps to find things. On the other hand I would prefer Vimeo (I think it has better quality or more serious or professional content in general) just because its works in real full screen on iOS Safari. Would like to see the whole catalog as Ikea tends to have some reduced design which should save file size 🙂 55 minutes ago, Rob Books said: The bigger issue with content is that manufacturers are excited to have their products in VW, many architect type content barely register that VW exists; they put everything out in Revit or Autocad. How does that work. Do manufacturers get a SDK and put their content themselves in VW. Like batch export their ProE or SolidWorks Models simply as ugly meshes VW Symbols. Or does VW help and look over it ? I would so like to simply put library content in my files. But that means so much re-classing to office standard and the complicated Meshes slow down the whole VW experience. Especially bent chair leg tubes or over complicated chair leg feet are meshed automated so badly and Mesh Reduce would even only destroy the geometry. Therefore I either avoid using them or mostly rebuild as much as I can manually. Quote Link to comment

German reseller (and now german Support for bug requests !?) for my US Version. I get nice newsletters about cute library "Architectural" content with nice previews, but have no access as my VSS library is US only. Quote Link to comment
Markvl
@Rob Books I don't intend this thread to be overly critical but rather to express a level of disappointment. A VSS subscription isn't just about getting the latest version of VW but having access to these said libraries and other content. The models are great for enhancing visualizations and are put together in such a way that makes navigating in the VW environment easier vs grabbing models from say the 3D Warehouse. So when you get a notification that libraries need to be updated, I get excited to see what is new. 1 Quote Link to comment

zoomer
@Rob Books Until your post I always thought the Arch Library content in VW is pretty extensive .... 34 minutes ago, Rob Books said: before we construct a library So all Libraries are created, updated, managed by VW ? Also VW has BIMObject (and a Revit + DWG import) But these are Meshes only too when I tried. Edited June 1, 2018 by zoomer Quote Link to comment

rDesign
My apologies. My frustrations with bugs and other Vw issues unrelated to this current thread are bleeding through to all topics. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Uh, sounds like a lot of work .... I thought it is more like a : Wouldn't you like to advertise your products in our BIM CAD, here is your VW NFR License, the Library Standard Manual, the Template File, have fun .... zoomer
I can understand that manufacturers don't like to give manufacturing ready CAD Geometries out. To not find their products on Ali Baba two months later. So I think they provide Meshes only. And the crappier the Meshes the better for this purpose. Maybe that's why also all DWG Library Objects offered seem to be crappy Meshes too. The only Library with reduced design in pure Solid Geometry I found so far is in Shape. So I'm excited what Ikea Furniture Library in look like. I think even a Computer can't fail to convert a Billy Cupboard into a low res Mesh 🙂 Quote Link to comment

zoomer
31 minutes ago, cberg said: Zoomer, what is "Shape"? Is this a website? Bricscad Shape is a free DWG 3D Sketch App with a simple reduced UI. To sketch and design 3D Architectural Models similar like in SketchUp but works with true Solids Geometry, ready to "BIMify" later in full Bricscad. The DWG Models import very nice into VW and I find it interesting. But it works a bit different and has some Autocad behaviors, so VW user may hate it. Nothing you couldn't somehow do in VW itself (?) So similar like SketchUp vs VW but useful Geometry. And I really like such a reduced Models Library that you can throw in your model without thinking and without 3 chairs Symbols having larger Geometry than your whole Architecture Model 🙂 And what I have to rethink as a strict "all controlled by Classes" guy for Furniture Symbols is, if I shouldn't also go like Shape and put the whole Furniture Geometry into a single Class and start to assign colors and materials by Object only. Because my typical "Material-Classes" System for Building Elements starts to explode when I want to include thousands of (unimportant) Furniture Materials. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
OK - OK Again I tumbled over the "wrong filter settings" hurdle until I was able to take a look at IKEA beds. These are really GREAT ! Real Solids Geometry and Material by Object. Thank you very much @Rob Books & Team ! I am really looking forward to their other products coming at a later time. Looks like my negative experience with VW Library Content may come from Herman Miller Libraries from the VW2014/2015 aera that where migrated over from version to version and project to project. Because I already edited and purged a little. Just one thing I'm asking myself could be a problem for me. For Visibility Control and Exports. All in one Class is fine. But all in "none" Class will prevent me from changing the Class to another wanted Class by > delete current Class > assign objects to other Class option. So I would need to do that one by one for each Symbol manually (?) Not sure if changing Symbol's Class alone will be enough for C4D visibility control or order in FBX/Collada/DWG exports ?
