drmdzh
So I have to draft/model a corinthian capital that will need to be manufactured. Not sure of the manufacturing process yet as we are a long way from the bidding process. Has anyone modeled one in vectorworks? How did you even begin the acanthus leaves? The volutes? If anyone has examples I'd appreciate it too. I will not be copying them into my project, just want to get some pointers on how it was done. Thanks. P.S. I also need to do Ionic, but figured if I can do a corinthian, Ionic shouldn't be a problem. Quote Link to comment

drmdzh
Thanks, great resource! Trying to figure out how they are constructed. Quote Link to comment
AlanW
With great difficulty, probably a lot of lofting. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
I've seen a tutorial for drawing parts of a corinthian capital in Rhino. You might be able to Google it. Some of the methods may translate to VW. The loft command will definitely come into play. KM Quote Link to comment
rDesign
I think some of the modeling, especially the curled acanthus leaves, should be much easier once Vw 2016 is released with its 'Subdivision Surface' functionality. But that won't happen for another three or more months... Another 3d model reference: http://www.sharecg.com/v/68677/browse/5/3D-Model/Corinthian-Column Good luck! In case you ever come across 3d models that are not in a format Vw can use (like the sharecg.com model I linked), you can try using the open-source app 'MeshLab' to convert it to a Vw-friendly format like .3DS. http://meshlab.sourceforge.net Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
The leaves will definitely be much easier with subdivision modelling. This next release is going to be a huge step forward for Vectorworks. Quote Link to comment
