Gary Bower
Hello, Besides manually copy/paste of data from one file to another, is there a way to import one VW file into another so that it brings in the Viewports and other data? Or is there a way to import the Viewports after the copy/paste alternative. Thanks in advance. Gary Quote Link to comment
Gary Bower
So I am guessing that the most ironic thing to do is to export out DWG from a VW file and then re-import into another VW file the DWG so that I can see the Viewports. This seems really silly to not be able to import or merge 2 VW files. This is the project: Lightplot in VW done at a different time than, Circuit plot for new theatre done at a different time than, the running light layout, done at a different time. Viewports were made in all 3, but I will now have to take the time to recreate those after copy/paste of all layers into new doc. ARRRRRGGGGHHH. Import should include another VW document. mike m oz
Gary there is a simple way: - Go to the Design Layers tab of the Organisation dialog box. - Click on New and in the New Layer dialog box that opens select Import Design Layers. - Navigate to the drawing you want and select the Design Layers you want to import. - Checkmark the option for Import Layer Objects. - Hit the OK button Note: - The Design Layers you want to import must have unique names. ie. they can't have the same name as an existing Design Layer in the destination file. - If you don't checkmark the option for Import Layer Objects all you will get is a blank Design Layer with that name. Tom Klaber
This is almost good except you can not import viewports like this. I am in the same boat, where I need to combine several drawings into one file. The viewports have crops and annotations that I do not want to have to recreate, but there seems to be now way except to export to DWG..... 1 Quote Link to comment
VectorGeek
Tom, Try grouping the viewports and then cutting/pasting them into the new file. You may have to re-ferkle the layer/class settings, but you are still way ahead versus any other methods. This works in VW2011. Have not tested in 2013. V-G. Quote Link to comment
Tom Klaber
Interesting. I can not get it to work yet, but showing promise. Quote Link to comment
Tom Klaber
There it goes! Not perfect but a huge time saver over anything else. Thanks V_G Quote Link to comment
ray isaacs
mike, thanks! i was trying to import layers yesterday, as i have done many times. only in that particular file i couldn't see any layers. now i know: exactly the same layer names. glad i didn't follow my impulse to smash the computer. ray Quote Link to comment
Tom Klaber
OK, VW - next step, full file merge. Quote Link to comment
assemblyarchitecture
Grouping the viewports worked for me as well in 2016. A huge trick. You have to reconnect the layers through the viewports but as far as the classes, cropping, scaling and positioning, that's all there. And that's the real work. AlanW
Also once you have copied your viewports over you can eyedrop the viewport settings. When copying things over make sure you Past in place so it all works the same. Edited January 12, 2016 by Alan Woodwell Quote Link to comment
