carpalmer
great, thanks Peter! how do you get them into VW? carpalmer Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
I'm not sure what OS you are using, but usually fonts are stored in a system-level folder, not in a program (like VW's). If you're on a Mac I can give you specific instructions, but if you are a windows user someone else will need to jump in... Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
As an aside, what font does everyone out there tend to use? Quote Link to comment
jan15
Architxt.ttf, a Truetype version of an SHX font. By the former "Digital Archtitect Software Company." NOT the easier-to-find one by S. G. Moye and also called Architext, which is not a hand-lettered font at all. Quote Link to comment
C. Andrew Dunning
As an aside, what fonts does everyone out there tend to use? I've grown to like "Mr. Hand," from the Architect's Font Pack: http://www.will-harris.com/store-h/architect_fonts.htm. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Mr. Hand is my main font. BTW remove the period from Mr. Dunnings link to make it work. Quote Link to comment
michael john williams
The problem is that we have found that a free style font makes the files big, especially when converting to pdf. We spent time doing a competition. It was all presented out using: ARchitxt [does not work here] a good freehand text and the pdf file sizes were huge, took us ages to work out why and then we had to change all the text. IanH
How does Mr Hand work at smaller point sizes when printed or in PDF? For planting plans, I am normally at 5-8 point, and very occasionally at 4 point. I currently use Bradley Hand ITC, which is fine at 5-8 point and very marginal at 4 point. Any difference between will-harris.com and architectsfonts.com for supply - the latter implies that they are his creation but will-harris shows them © him? I see that architectsfonts.com do individual fonts, but will-harris.com is cheaper for the 6 font pack but do not see individual fonts. Im only interested in Mr Hand and possibly Heavy Hand if Mr Hand does not do bold well. Quote Link to comment
carpalmer
how do I add fonts in XP platform? Thx carpalmer Quote Link to comment
exocubic
A quick word of caution - I had several instances of subcontractors and engineers contacting me with clarity issues when I used "hand-lettered" fonts on my CDs. I've since stopped using them and switched to a clean, easy-to-decipher font - helvetica. Quote Link to comment
jan15
You install a font by dragging the .ttf file into the system Fonts folder - C:\Windows\Fonts, or Start > Settings > Control Panel > Fonts. Then you have to re-start VW to get it to recognize the new font. Quote Link to comment
Bob Holtzmann
I use Arial 12 point for all plan notes. Its typeface is a little more open than Helvetica for small text, especially for the 9 point in small spaces. Most Windows computers already have a good hand font - Stylus BT Roman. I copied it out of the PC system to use on my Mac. Quote Link to comment
IanH
how do I add fonts in XP platform? Thx carpalmer I purchased MrHand last night and had a bit of fun getting it to install on Vista. It should have been simply a matter of downloading it, then dragging it to the fonts folder available in the control panel. But I could not get the font to stick even though it prompted me for admin password. I had to actually login as administrator for the ttf file to stick in the fonts folder. I also needed to reboot the machine to make it visible to any application - not just VW. In the end it looks to have been worth it. It scales well down well, remaining legible at 4pt on my laster printer and probably more so on my designjet. But it appears not to be a true proportionally spaced font, at least for numbers, which is useful for some things but frustrating when trying to fit text into a small box. I would like to see a true fully proportional font and a separate monospaced version as an alternative. Not had a chance to see how much it fills pdf files - mine are generally quite large anyhow as they often contain hand rendered images. But for $15, worth it if only for plan annotation. Gerrit
Archie is a caps only handwritten style font, available at http://www.nemetschek.net/community/addons/misc.php Seems to me that most US people prefer a handwritten font, am I right ? Using Courier in my title block at the moment ;-) Quote Link to comment
