  1. Because of barkest question about psd files not showing in the resource browser and the windows version not even seeing psd files I checked the supported import/export formats. The Mac version of Vectorworks supports import of TGA, PSD, SGI files whereas the Windows version does not. The Mac version also exports to PSD, TGA and OpenEXR and the Windows version not. I don't mind if Windows or Mac only formats (e.g. MacPaint) are not supported by the other platform, but platform independent formats should be supported equally on both Mac and Windows versions of Vectorworks for import/export so that in mixed environments both versions can use the same source files or export to the same file formats.
  2. After about two months with landmark I feel I am beginning to run up against the softwares limitations--limitations I strongly feel define the product as a professional landscape architects tool versus one more geared for garden design. We always import IFC files from architects typically working in archicad or revit. I would like to see or hear some detailed workflows on importing IFC models, setting accurate finished floor elevations and doing initial site modeling (including foundations). Most of the architects we work with do an initial pass at grading/site modeling.I need to re-model their site grading somehow so that I can easily edit in VW. A good workflow video (using a sloping site, because sites are never flat) would be great. Any resources out there?
  3. I would really like the Eye Dropper to work from one File to another.
  4. I'd like to see the ability to import a sheet layer from another file. And have it bring over sheet layer objects, plus have the ability to bring in the related layers and classes that created them.
  5. Now that we have the basic Revit import (I am assuming this will get better over time because those things are HEAVEY - I can not imagine importing an actual Revit Model), but now I want gsm import. I am for the first time browsing through the BIM Object library, and I see there are the bunch of ArchiCad objects. If we are going to give up on companies making VW libraries - let's get gsm imports as well.
  6. Text style import and export, where text keeps the assigned text style. Font substitution is not an issue. The reason for this request is that often project specifications or standards require the use of predefined text styles. Currently texts in dwg files exported from Vectorworks do not have proper text styles, this makes roundtrip workflows between DWG based software and Vectorworks very cumbersome if not impossible for practical reasons.
  7. I don't understand why there are two entries in the import dialog. The "import single DWG" has the common parameters for DWG import. The "import DWG" has additional parameters but you can reach the other main parameters from "import single" but not vice versa. f.e. if you accidentally set the "Architectural Elements" to 2D, this will influence the "import single" Import but you can't change that setting from there, and you won't be able to get 3D files in "import single" until you changed the settings there. I think there should be only 1 dialog with all settings ! Same for Export, if I am not wrong there are still some exports where it depends on your current View Window setting being 2D or 3D, wether you will export 2D or 3D. I think these options belong to the export settings window only.
  8. Importing an image file should, by default, create an image resource. Couple this with (someday) having drag and drop capability for image files and one could build a resource library of images very quickly, and on the fly.
  9. we really need a way to import sheet layers and pull in all of the design layers as well. Not having this means breaking up a file. If this is what project sharing accomplishes, then we need to be able to do this via a cloud service.
  10. It would be nice to have Microstation DGN file import. If my understanding is correct, Vectorworks uses the ODA Teigha libraries for DWG import/export. These libraries also provide DGN file import so it should be possible to implement this. Outside the US Microstation is not uncommon in the GIS/Civil world and I regularly come across DGN files and now have to resort to converting them into DWG files first, directly or indirectly, or have them converted into DWG files by the person/company who created the Microstation file before I can use them in Vectorworks. Unfortunately using the DWG "detour" has its issues that could hopefully be avoided by having a direct DGN import in Vectorworks.
  11. It would be a dream come true if there were a good way to import file from Adobe illustrator into vecotrworks. I am on an alomst daily basis needing to import client logos into vectorworks and then having to extrude them. The only way i have been successful in doing that requires me to import the illustrator files into either Cinema 4d or Formz and them export them as DXFs and then import them into vectorworks. This is time consuming and requires a lot of trial and error work to get it right. The resulting logo product ends up being a large file chock full of polygons without much editablity.
  12. Hi, We can set level types in a template, but I don't want a full list of level types for existing, new, etc... I would like to be able to import those like we can with layers and classes, that way my template doesn't have to have level types and on creating a new drawing, we can import the ones we want/need. A template is no place for level types and it will be consistent with layers and classes. I know we have default levels and such linked from them, but the import can handle both the level types and default levels.
  13. It would be nice if Vectorworks could import/export text styles from/to dwg files. Font substitution in the case of e.g. SHX fonts is not an issue for me, as long as text styles remain attached to the text objects. Currently it is not feasible to use Vectorworks for projects that require pre-defined text styles as it is too much work to assign text styles afterwards in the exported dwg files. If the text styles would remain attached to the text objects it would be much simpler to fix this in a dwg based program (AutoCAD, Bricscad, Draftsight etc.)
  14. hi, thnx for the new and better possibilities in vw 2015 to import sketchup files. but some improvements are necessary: 1. the new sketchup 2015 isn't supported yet. vw 2015 can only import data up to sketchup version 2014. 2. imported surfaces/solids with holes aren't right calculated from the vw 2015 importer (see attatched screenshot) 3. please add the option to generate real vw solids from all the sketchup groups/components. actual the imported "solids" are only a bunch of grouped 3d polygons. 4. please add the option to import sketchup cameras as vw cameras thnx & cheers johnny
  15. Hi all, Would be great if VW could be a little "smarter" when importing documents. If VW could recognize the file type that is open via the dialog Open we could get rid of all the import list, so it would be more straight forward, and then when we click ok then the respective dialog with the options will appear. Hope it makes sense Cheers, Juan
  16. There are a lot of good, free textured 3D objects on the internet ? 35.000+ at archive3d.net alone. A great source if you are doing renderings. 3D objects typically come in two formats: .3DS or .OBJ. The first format is used by archive3D, the last is used by 123D, Poser and others. I would like to be able to import both - including correctly mapped textures ? but I would settle for one format, that actually works. VectorWorks 3DS import does not work well. Textures are poorly supported and the mapping is lost in the import process. Texture mapping of imported meshes is not supported by VW at all ? and mapped meshes is what I want - and you should want it too ? because of the great VW feature of mesh smoothing. Alternatively, I want to somehow be able to use smoothing on groups of 3D polygons - if they are indeed imported with correct mapping in the future. Some time ago, I imported a car into VW. After about an hour of work converting groups of 3D polygons into meshes and tweaking the textures, I got a a fairly realistic-looking car, that I can use again and again. Great. A week later I imported the same car into Strata Design 3D. It took less than 10 minutes to get an even better result here. The point is, that the usability of free 3D libraries like archive3D.net is greatly enhanced, if you can just grab those objects and use them as is.
  17. There is the new Workspaces dialog that lists the workspaces and allows you to perform various workspace management functions. One notable omission is an option to Import a Workspace. This function would allow you to navigate to a workspace file on disk and then move/copy it to the user folder. (This would be a nice clean way to share my workspace with my students and not have to delve down into the libraries so early on in their Vectorworks learning experience.) Kevin
  18. Please make the behaviour and look of the bezier paths like Illustrator or Freehand. It is a standard that is well established and works well (like the wheel - no need for re-invention) Also when adding points we need to be able to click on the path rather than on existing points (especially as sometimes you can't get a point in the right zone wherever you click and end up having to shuffle points around) BTW the new Sketch spline is great - very usable!
  19. hi, my wishes for vw 2015 sketchup import - please import all sketchup geometry as solid geometry sketchup groups as grouped vw solids sketchup components as solid vw symbols lines, single surfaces as 3d polygons - sketchup layers as vw layers or classes (chooseable) - reference to sketchup file, so if changes made in the sketchup model, the possibility to update the geometry in vw thnx!
  20. My current method for dealing with the multitude of 3d polygons that I get when I import a .3ds file is to sigh heavily. I'd like these files to import cleanly and be usable.
  21. If I have imported an image or Pdf into a drawing; if I want to change it - I want to be able to right click it and have an option to change the pdf or image This is not possible now is it?
  22. Hi. On import dxf leader lines are ungrouped and no longer considered to be leader lines. Could dxf files with leader when imported be maintained as a Vectorworks leader. At least the option provided, if it does create an appearance change? Regards
  23. is there a way to do this already? would be nice to import an export terrain data directly from dem's as this is becoming more availble. ray
  24. Can dwg tables be imported as worksheet and worksheets be exported as dwg tables? In VW 2013 SP3 the tables are exploded into lines
  25. Hi all When importing a dxf the sheet layers change in order. Seems to random as different ordering results, are possible, on the same drawing. This cannot be hard to fix and it makes that much harder to use an imported file.
