  1. How about some 3d trees at front? and use props for the ones on the back create a forest background from a picture. Think Disney movie layers.

  4. By the way. This is a happy accident. When I added the shower spot light I had it inverted and look what I got. I am glad this happened so we can learn to avoid this mistakes. Light was directed upwards and too close to a surface, so I was getting a crazy disco ball effect.
  5. Hey. I did some tampering with the file. I hope it looks alright in your monitor. I have three over here and the colors just looks a bit different. The shower light is a IES Custom light. The toilet texture has less reflections and more blur. The wall lights have some advance settings so I was able to fine tuned them. Floor has a bit more reflection and more blur. the scene has some ambient occlusion, see edges. The shower glass has a crazy setting and reflection and a tint of green. Wall mirror is a bit frosted and a tint of grey blue.
  6. I'd recommend for this shot to move the camera behind the open door. What is the style you are trying to achieve? scene like this can be very marketing and that requires adding time modeling real bathroom props like towels, toothbrush, flower, soap bars, etc. all make the space look inviting. and don't forget to use camera effects like depth of field and bloom. Also, do not forget to add real IES lights, better than using std light point or spotlights. Model the tiles, pay attention to fillet the edges and extra attention to the plumbing fixtures, make them sing. This first image is a professional render form another super user (not a bathroom) but you can see some of the techniques he uses for selling that magazine shot. Second image was done by talented Tim Connors and I noticed he pays attention to small details.

  8. Now, about your question on how to create a useful white model, I'd recommend starting with a rendering style named white model. No color, yes to textures, no background, yes to ambient occlusion, that is important, 300 dpi and here is a trick, add an artistic edge, plain is good and go lower on the number, try 1 pxl or .05 of pixel. that provides a fine line. (see samples) Not sure about the faceted lines on curves, unless you are using hidden line as your output instead of renderworks.
  9. I personally like the technique of creating a white model in vwx and water color by "hand", well, lately for me it is not exactly real water color, more like bringing a white image to an ipad pro and then use a coloring app. (see before and after)

About a year ago I remember attempting something unusual with our software, a still life scene, why not? in the process I captured one of my earlier renders and realized those were not bubbles but splotchy effects. The advised I received helped tons, I had too many light sources bouncing lights everywhere, probably more than five, so in the end I was able to achieve the effect I needed with just a single spotlight and some small glowing objects.
  11. Every background can help you create a rendering with a cone of light. Turn it on, and add a degree of "fog" noise or smooth, don't forget to check cast shadows.
  12. Without camera effects I'd not be able to achieve this type of presentation renderings. (See bloom, depth of field)
  13. I take advantage of this conversation to share the learning experience on using now integrated Camera Match in 2017. It is a matter of placing a fix point and align 6 vanishing lines to a photo. Maybe small adjustment at the end. What I like about using camera match is that I can control the rendering style and not always trying to go for Photorealism. (See images)

  15. Here is a reason when to use Rendering Style over Custom Renderworks. In this illustration for the faucets to stand out, to pop and make them look shiny and with volume, I needed to add an environmental reflection. That background feature is only possible with rendering styles. So it is a matter of knowing the limitations of each rendering mode.
  16. When I created the 3D promotional video, it was mainly to give a quick overview of tools available for different challenges in a project in only a few min. I believe next move will be to explain step by step how to approach certain sections. Do you have suggestions on what parts we can dig deeper? Open to ideas.
  17. Hello rendering addicts. Creating renderings with a void background maybe something graphic designer may take for granted but this new import and export feature opened the door to a vast array of possibilities. Here is a sample I wanted to share. The front is a static rendering image of our Hive project, exported as a .png with alpha channel, then sent to a video editing software, added a motion background, some sound effect and I finished with a smile. I am curious to see what else we can come up with to improve our daily presentations. Alpha_Channel_model.mp4
  18. I'll make a recommendation here. For many rendering projects I keep producing and improving styles since each presents different settings I need, not just quality but backgrounds, artistic edges, camera effects, environmental reflections, number of bounces, light intensity, grass, displacement mapping, etc. All of those I keep track of saving them in a favorites file, same for backgrounds. Here you have a couple of samples, one made with an artistic style, notice the thin edges and the other one a bit more real, including some camera effects.
