  1. I want Vectorworks to design a parking garage in the style of Thomas Jefferson.
  2. I just spent stupid time trying to use DoMenuTextByName('extrude',0); But despite the documentation in the vectorscript appendix, I get: Error: W DOMENUTEXTBYNAME - Menu cannot be found. Extrude. All kinds of vectorscript functions for creating extrudes by passing arguments, but apparently you can't just call the menu item from vectorscript. It's stupid.
  3. If they did it the other way, it wouldn't make sense to someone else. Smells like a Vectorscript project to me.
  4. The entire construction industry? According to whom? Your wife, Morgan Fairchild?
  5. In the UK it's called complying with the building regs. Park K, paragraph 1.29: There are simpler methods of compliance. Some involve stringers. Looking at the way in which the mounting plates overlap the double lines in your sketch, I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect that NNA could anticipate your particular solution.
  6. I agree with Peter, model it. I'd probably start with the stair profile (side elevation) as an extrude and intersect it with a tall extrude of the plan view.
  7. They should switch to Sandcastle. Then help could link to a variety of helpful resources...including this techboard.
  8. 1:16 is 3/4" = 1'-0" A common scale for detailing. Releasing CAD files which exactly match paper documents to third parties is a sensible step toward reducing liability exposure.
  9. Export a layer or class at a time until you isolate the problem entities.
  10. If you don't wan to import a section line. Put the section line in it's own layer or class or both in the source drawing. Then don't include it in the viewport reference. However, I don't know if this will solve your problem.
  11. Eleven posts. All about Asteroid. Nothing about Vectorworks. Where's the question?
  12. If the creator sends me one, I'll try it out.
  13. try searching for "+keyboard +shortcuts" without the quotation marks. There is an architect template at least.
  14. Since you're admittedly neither an expert nor extremely knowledgeable on the subject, on what basis have you determined that there are so many advantages?
  15. Save as a different file name. In the navigation pallet, go to the references tab and delete the references (I know it's counter intuitive). Choose to import "referenced viewports." Repeat as required. This will give you a single vectorworks file which you can then convert. It will also allow you to debug any reference problems at the vectorworks level rather than in acad.
  16. Sure from your standpoint that makes sense. But how many extra copies of Vectorworks would better integration of space navigator sell? The issue isn't your productivity, it's NNA's. What's their ROI? I suspect it's negative. Space navigator support isn't going to drive sales of Vectorworks, and the development tools probably were less robust than they had been led to expect before undertaking the project. But at least there are drivers for both platforms. In the case of Asteroid, there isn't support for OhSex.
  17. I don't really see much overlap between the markets for a $180 mouse and a $1000 CAD program.
  18. For Windows users, see my post regarding vectorscript support in Notepad++ here: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=127816#Post127816
  19. Transparency is not going to lighten line weights. It will make black grey over a white background or allow other objects to bleed through, but a 1mm line will still be 1mm wide. I grey objects by layer usually, and over-ride classes occasionally. I don't use a lot of transparency, but when I do it's for washing objects out to show what's beneath.
  20. There are Xeons with between 1 and 6 cores and CPU's with that kind of speed. Per wikipedia, the Quadro FX 540 is based on the NV43 chip which came out in 2004, so it wouldn't surprise me if your system is a bit dated...in my opinion, it's clearly short on RAM. Your notebook appears to have better spec, as will just about any PC in the $400 and up price range.
  21. My point is that you can rarely seemlessly transfer AutoCad drawings into AutoCad (or Vectorworks drawings into Vectorworks) to the satisfaction of an architect.
  22. Try turning off PDF layers when you export. I think that's part of the issue.
  23. Your PDF contains layers. There's no point in continuing to post jpg's until the issues with your PDF get sorted out. Also, it appears that you are exporting your PDF's at different sizes, the new one is approx 11x17 the previous 8.5x11.
