  1. Check your Site Model Settings: Using these settings: I got this:
  2. Does it have a solid fill? Are you using extrudes? If so be sure that the actual 2D polygon has a solid fill. Or are you using the Terrain Site Model tools?
  3. I found this site http://www.bittbox.com/freebies/free-seamless-vector-perforated-metal-pattern/ and downloaded the folder, then in VW -> create new texture ->then followed these settings. (The seamless.png is attached at the bottom of this post.) Here is what I got:
  4. $15 from Landru Design. Here is the link, click the link for "StageLifts" or scroll down to find it. It is a developed plug-in object, so it probably has some useful capabilities in terms of customization. Although I haven't purchased it, I don't have a need for it a the moment, but seems like it could be worth the small price if it is indeed a quality PIO. http://www.landrudesign.com/DefaultFrameSet.htm?VWPlugIns.htm~LandruMnFrm
  5. No. But a good wish-list item.
  6. See if this solves it: Then be sure that the class you just set is the one shown here before you hit OK:
  7. In terms of the Cabinet PIO's being limited, I would suggest that you create your 3D Cab's own just using simple 3D tools (Extrudes, etc) adding all the detail you need. Then create symbols out of these. Since you do a lot of cabinets you would build a great library of these very quickly, saving time in the long run and providing the great 3D perspectives you are looking for.

    Importing

Try saving the problematic TIFF as some other file type (JPEG, PNG, PDF, or something). Then try to import it again. I don't know what the problem is, but I suspect it is with the TIFF file itself.
  9. Yeah, for this one I would just suck it up and draw some little white rectangles to cover the concrete where you need to. This will be much more time-efficient than any other method right now, it just doesn't seem worth spending hours trying to get it just right when a two-click rectangle to cover it up will do the trick.
  10. Here are some free HDRI sky's: http://www.evermotion.org/index.php?unfold_exclusive=84&unfold=exclusive
  11. A slightly different topic, but related in concept: I would love the option of being able to 'Show others while in Symbols.' This would be an option only when right-click editing a SPECIFIC symbol instance in the drawing. Otherwise there would be no 'others' to show if you were simply editing the symbol straight from the Resource Browser. BUT, this would be useful, since things like a Floor object are really Hybrid symbols, so when you double-click to edit the 2D profile, you don't get to see "others," so you have no context by which to make edits. This applies to all other types of Symbols as well. Both in 2D and 3D edit modes. Of course this would be an option that you could turn on and off. EDIT: Whoops, I just saw Christiaan's note about the same thing: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=72401&site_id=1#import Well I guess I second that notion.
  12. NOT the answer you are looking for, hopefully someone else can help with how to disable the key command, but here is another way...
  13. Pat must be on vacation or something. Good for him.
  14. I got it to work by having the window NOT in the wall. So when you select it, the OIP just says "window," not "window in wall." I don't know if there is a better way of doing this. I think it was addressed in this forum somewhat recently. EDIT: I found the thread I was thinking of, and followed Pat Stanford's link to a movie tutotial he made on this topic: "Notch_Walls_Around_Windows" http://vectortasks.com/Movies/Movies.html I watched it, and at the very end he shows that he did have to use the 3D Reshape method, however, his window was still a "window in wall" and it did not have this problem. Screenshot: What are we doing wrong here that we have to disconnect the window from the wall in addition to the 3D Reshape?
  15. No this would happen in 2008 too. You can manually edit the wall vertices. Get in a front view, then use the 3D Reshape tool to add vertices to the wall and reshape it around the bottom of the window. You will do the same thing on the brick wall above, this time reshaping the wall around the top of the window. Tip: Try to have that nice warm feeling that the window is in the right place before doing the reshape, otherwise you will have to just go back and keep editing the walls...
  16. Did you purge resources, like imported images, textures, and symbols you are not using, but are still hanging out in your resource browser? But you should also know that 9Mb is tiny compared to just about any VW file I have worked on in the last couple years. That doesn't mean that the exported PDF sheets can not be as small of files as you need them to be.
  17. Check for a class called "sills." It is a bug that creates this class, the trick is to just be sure you have this class turned "visible." You can delete the class, but it will just regenerate again next time you place a door...
  18. Christiaan, I would add being able to Work in Section! Its at the top of my list.
  19. I bought the 17" MacBook Pro. Recommend it highly. It is plenty portable, super fast, and the extra screen size as compared to the 15" makes a world of difference when using app's with lots of toolbars (VW, and Adobe products). Yes, it is a lot of money, but so are most quality machines, plus you are a student, you should feel comfortable investing in a great machine that you will be happy with for years to come. No viruses, no problems, no regrets. Also from Apple you get a student discount on the machine, plus a free iPod, and free printer. And, be sure to thank NNA for your free Educational VW 2008, fully functional. It just adds a watermark which is super easy to remove if you ever want to for anything more than just a draft print: Just set-up your sheets with an extra inch page-size on top and bottom, export to PDF, then crop the PDF top and bottom by 1" using Acrobat.
  20. GDU, Download the latest service pack. That might be the problem. http://www.nemetschek.net/downloads/fundamentals/2008/2008SP3.php
  21. Create a design layer and draw your details there. A good rule of thumb is to set the Design Layer scale to be either the same or very close to the scale of the Viewports you are making. (This mainly has to do with text sizes and line weights.) If your viewports are all going to be fairly close in scale (say 1"=1'-0" and 1 1/2"=1'-0") then you would probably just want to draw all of the details on the same Design Layer. If you are showing some details at very different scales (say some at 1/2"=1'-0" and 3"=1'-0") then you should consider drawing these on separate design layers with more appropriate design layer scales. That is pretty much it, just draw, create your viewports, and put 'em where you want 'em on your sheet layers.
  22. Try turning off auto-join walls in the VW Preferences.
