  1. Hi Clive Hmm - that sounds a problem. I've just tried the exercises myself, and I am not seeing the same problem. Have you installed the latest service pack for 2013?
  2. Definitely I have a different experience. The road tools that we have work perfectly with the model. One thing you do need to do is select all the straight segments and turn on the Site Modifiers and then select all the curved segments and turn on the site modifiers. When you create the road from a polyline, I've noticed I only get prompted for the curved sections. Could this be your problem? (and it's Tamsin by the way... not Tasmin!)
  3. Hi Fundamentals does not include any PDF export, but also lacks any Batch Export functions. There is no Navigation palette in Fundamentals. Hierarchical display IS available in Fundamentals as is the dimension functionality you seek. If you need any more information, we'll be happy to talk it through with you. Kind regards
  4. Could it be that you don't have a Boundary site modifier? Or Grade Limits modifier as it is now known?
  5. Take a look at the video on this page that is 3rd from the bottom. This takes you through changing the symbol for the Event Seating. http://www.vectorworks-training.co.uk/buy-vectorworks/training-for-design-vectorworks-training-gifts/ Hope that helps.
  6. Hi Dillon If you created your roadway with Create Road from Stakes, each roadway segment should meet the following roadway segment at the same elevation. The touching pads message is annoying, but because the pads ARE touching at the same elevation, it will have no adverse effect on the model. The reason the message about touching or intersecting pads is displayed, is because the Site Model simply cannot have vertically aligned elevation points. They must be slightly offset on plan, or one set of points will be ignored (the ones drawn last). So, in the case of the roads, just ignore the message and update your model. The roadway will work just fine. Hope that helps
  7. Site modelling is really powerful facility, but perhaps too large for a quick forum response. However, I'll try to point you in the right direction. Yes, use the Site Modifiers tool to create Pads. All modifiers must be enclosed within a special modifier called a Grade Limits (draw this with the Site Modifiers tool ? just change it's mode). You can also use the Stake tool to set elevations on the site ? just make sure its mode is set to Site Modifer. Make sure your model is set to display the proposed site. Are you a Vectorworks Service Select member? If so, login to the portal and look in the tutorials section. There are a couple there that handle site modelling. There are also webinars on demand. One of my webinars looks at site modelling in some detail. Good luck!
  8. Create Walls, and then create a Retaining Wall Site Modifier for each. I think you guys still have my site modelling course notes from when your team did my course some years ago. Things have changed a little since then, but you should find some useful stuff in there about the different site modifiers you can use. All the best T
  9. HI It's just one Polyine, with one single line type...
  10. P.S. Apologies again... you won't be able to do this with 2010. You'll need 2013.
  11. Sorry - correction, that won't work if the wall is a Round Wall. However, you could create a Line Type and use that on a curved Polyline. This works beautfully.
  12. The best thing is to use a Tile fill and a Wall to create such a pathway. Tile Fills can be set to Rotate in Wall and can also Fit to Wall (on their Y Axis). I have created a series of Tile Fills that you can download from our website. I can't remember if I set them to ROtate in Wall, but you can easily edit their settings yourself if not. http://www.vectorworks-training.co.uk/other-services-vectorworks-services/other-services-vectorworks-free-downloads/
  13. You may find that the graphics card within your iMac does not have enough memory to support VW 2013. Take a look at the Knowledgebase for more information: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/714/Video+Card+%7B47%7D+Graphics+Card+Guidelines+for+Vectorworks+-+9-17-2012 You can edit the Vectorworks > Preferences and on the Display tab turn off Enhanced Navigation Graphics, that might speed things up a little for you.
  14. File > Export > Export IFC Project. You will be asked to map the design layers into a Story structure (if you haven't already used stories in your building setup). Any objects that have IFC data attached will be exported, with their data You'll be able to query that information in an IFC viewer such as Solibri. The document Christiaan has pointed you to is excellent for standard setup. I would recommend that you also create as many standard library objects (wall styles, etc) so that they will insert into the correct class automatically, and can be referenced into each project as required. This will reduce the potential for error.
  15. The Extract tool can create either a Planar (2D) objects which will accept only an image, or it can create a NURBS Surface. You just need to click Extract Tool Preferences to choose which you want it to create. Another good reason for extruding though, is that if not extruded, the new surface will be in exactly the same plane as the door surface and then you can get some stripey results, as Vectorworks is not sure which surface to display.
  16. Yes, that DOES work, BUT you end up with extra data which swells your file unnecessarily. Better to replace with the Locus, because then you get a single point in exactly the same place as the surveyor measured it.
  17. Hi Christiaan Here's what to do: Create a 3D Locus somewhere away from the design. Create a 3D only symbol from the 3D Locus. Use Select Similar to select all the 3D Polygon symbols. On the Object Info palette, click Replace. Replace the 3D Polygon symbols with the 3D Locus symbol. Modify > Convert to Group. This will destroy the symbols and you will be left with 3D Loci. Each will have retained the Z value of its original symbol counterpart. Hope that helps!
  18. Hi Bob You just need to add the Plant Symbols file as a Resource Browser favorite. On the Resource Browser, find the Files menu, and choose Add New Favorite Files. Navigate to the file on the Dropbox and choose it. This will now be available to browse at any time while you are working on any VW document. Resources, including plants, can only be updated in the current document. However, once you've made a new plant, or edited an existing one, just right-click and choose Export to send a copy back to your master plant file. You COULD reference the plant file and it's resources directly into your project, but the danger with that method is that any changes you make to plants you have already used on other projects may be updated in those older projects. This may not be desirable. As you have a VW Cloud account, you are also a Vectorworks Service Select member. There is a tutorial within the portal that covers how to reference symbols and the implications of doing so. Hope that helps
  19. With the Design Series versions of Vectorworks, you can use the Door tool and choose Use Symbol Geometry on the Door Settings. That way, the Door can be IDed with the ID label tool. However, in Fundamentals, you can't do this. Instead, create a symbol from your door, (Modify > Create Symbol) and on the Create Symbol dialog, enable Insert in Walls. Hope that helps
  20. You're most welcome. I am glad it's resolved your problem.
  21. You're welcome. Glad you found them useful.
  22. Hi Ran I remember I was unable to open your educational files the last time I tried to help you on this... But if you see my earlier post today, I pointed you towards some videos that explain how to change the selection criteria for a row, so that you can limit which plants are listed in the report. http://www.vectorworks-training.co.uk/buy-vectorworks/training-for-design-vectorworks-training-gifts/ All the best Tamsin
  23. Hi Ran I think we have spoken before, and I can't solve all the problems on your list, but in terms of limiting the selection criteria for your worksheets, take a look at this set of videos on my website. They are completely free, and there are a couple that demonstrate how to do exactly what you want - get the worksheet to look at only specific plants. Hope you find that useful. http://www.vectorworks-training.co.uk/buy-vectorworks/training-for-design-vectorworks-training-gifts/ All the best T
  24. Hi Pietsy The Plant tool preferences are handled differently in 2013 to how they were in 2012. But here's what to do: Select a Plant. On the Object Info palette, click Plant Settings Click the Render tab on the left of the dialog. Is Display Tag Line Marker checked? If so, uncheck it. Click OK. Does that get rid of your markers? I suspect it will. If so, use the Select Similar tool to select all the plants. Repeat the steps above, to remove the setting from all the plants. If that isn't the problem, make sure nothing is selected and look at the Attributes palette? Do you have a marker turned on by default, at the bottom of the palette? If so, turn it off. Select a plant, and look at the Attributes palette. Is the marker turned on? If so, turn it off. Now select all the plants and repeat. That should fix it. There are significant changes to the Plant tool in 2013, that offer much greater flexibility with plant settings than before. For a migration guide, take a look at this blog post of mine. You might want to take a look through some of our other blog posts as there are a few landscape related posts you might find useful: http://www.vectorworks-training.co.uk/blog/plant-tool-migration-in-vectorworks-2013/
