  1. The "Edit Group" command should work with both Roof and Roof Face objects. If you have trouble clicking on the hole object in Edit Group mode, click-drag a marquee around the hole object to select it. If you plan to edit it, you might want to use the "Send to Front" command to make it easier to get at. Can you send me the file privately so I can take a look at it?
  2. Are you talking about a hole created in the Roof object by clipping a polygon from the roof? If so, you can select the roof and use the Edit Group command. When you're in Edit Group mode, you should be able to select the clipping polygon (you may need to marquee around it) and move or delete it. Once you exit the "group", the roof will update with the changes.
  3. I opened the file in VW 2018 and tried the following: Selected both gable end walls Ran the Delete Wall Peaks command Ran the Fit walls to Objects command For me this fit the walls correctly. I also tried this: Opened you file selected the offending wall edited its components via the Object Info palette. Set all component tops to be "relative to wall" This corrected the issue. Do either of these approaches help on your setup?
  4. Try selecting the offending wall, click on the Components button in the Object Info palette and check to see if the tops of its components have an offset. If so, set them to zero. If that's not the issue, can you attach a small file showing the problem?
  5. You could set the defaults in your favorite template files. This would get you the same behavior.
  6. Can you post a small file showing the problem?
  7. Try editing the symbol definition and rotate the window 90 degrees.
  8. Set the "resource type" popup in the top of the Resource Manager to Record Formats. Right-click in the Resource Manager and choose the "Create Record Format" contextual menu command. A Create record Format dialog will appear. Name the format Click the New button to add a new Field to the format. An Edit Field dialog will appear. Name the field and give it an appropriate type and default. Click OK in the dialogs to exit them. Now that you have the record format, you can attach it to selected walls via the data tab in the Object Info palette.
  9. Have you tried using Data Visualization in a viewport? In the attached file, I did the following: In the Resource Manager, create a "Scope" Record with a "Scope Index" field. Use the Select Similar tool to select all walls of a particular style. Attach the Scope record and type an appropriate "Scope Index" value. Repeat this for other walls. This part is not exactly what you're looking for since you want the record and value to be attached to the wall style definition but it might suffice. Create a viewport and use the Data Visualization feature to display different Scope Index values with different colors. DataVis on Walls.vwx
  10. Yes. This workflow could be improved upon. The recommended workflow for your Andersen Window example would be to rename the Style (to something more meaningful) as soon as you import it. I'd like to look into ways to help promote this workflow in the future.
  11. The reason the catalog parameters are all grayed is because the catalog item is By Style. This means you need to edit the style to select a catalog item and all instances of that style will be set to that item. If you wish to have each instance to have the ability to use a different catalog item, edit the style and change the catalog item to By Instance (by toggling the By Style/instance button by the Select from Catalog icon button). This will then enable those control in the Settings dialog for each instance.
  12. Hi Christiaan, You are correct. This is a definite need. I, and a few others, have entered enhancement requests for this. Best regards, Matt
  13. sometimes I get lucky. ;-) You're very welcome! I'm glad it worked!
  14. Hello Magdalena, Can you attach a Vectorworks file with just the window in it? My initial (wild) guess is that you may have the Sash Depth set to a value less than the Glazing Thickness.
  15. I've attached some more information on creating catalog files. Please see attached PDF file. Catalog File Creation.pdf
  16. Samuel, Each row represents a catalog item in the excel file. You should be able to delete and add them as needed. When finished, "Save As" in excel and choose to save as a "Tab Delimited Text". NOTE: You may need to restart VW in order to see the new catalog data.
  17. Err... oops! I think you're right. Forget I said that. ;-P Thank you for submitting! -Matt
  18. Hi Terrance, Our default content for doors and windows with attached catalogs all have the Catalog Item "by style". This means all instances of the style will use the same Catalog item. The recommended workflow is to edit the style, rename the style to something like "Window A", and choose the catalog item for the style. This way, all instances of "Window A" will use the same item from the catalog. However, if you wish to allow instances of a given style to use different catalog items, you can edit the style and set the catalog item "by instance". This will then allow each instance to use a different catalog item via the "Window Settings" dialog (or via the Object Info palette). Please let me know if you need more clarification. Best regards, -Matt
  19. Ok, great. Thanks Kevin. I do still see an open bug similar to this but it certainly helps to have your report as well - in case it's something slightly different. It also allows you to keep an eye on the issue. :-) Thanks! -Matt
  20. Hi Kevin, I believe this is a known issue. If you previously submitted a bug on this and it was not resolved, I suggest adding a comment to that bug stating the it's still an issue. Otherwise go ahead and submit a new report. This needs to be fixed. Thanks! -Matt
  21. Hi Samuel, Apologies. I should've said save as a "Tab Delimited Text" file. I'll edit my original post. And yes, it would be much faster to add (and manage) many catalog items in the spreadsheet. Can you give me an example of "descriptive elements" that are not editable via worksheet?
  22. Creating catalogs is most certainly an expert/power user/super geeky level task. But, It may not be TOO difficult if you want to create your own using the same set of parameters an existing catalog uses. You can duplicate a set of existing catalog files and rename them for a new catalog. You can find the shipping catalog files in the VW application folder under Libraries/Object Styles/Door (or Window)/Catalogs. If you copy, rename and move the three (xlsx, txt, xml) files for an existing catalog to the same file path in the VW User folder (you may need to add the "Catalogs" folder), a new catalog of that filename will be available in VW. The three files MUST have the same name (before the file extension) and here are their purpose: XML: Defines how the catalog is organized, which parameters are used, and plenty more geeky information. I highly recommend not editing this file. XLSX: This is an Excel file used to edit the parameter values for all items within the catalog. This is for content creators and not used by the VW application. TXT: A Tab Delimited Text file saved (exported) from the Excel file. You can then edit the "xlsx" file in Excel, replace parameter values with your own, and save as "Tab Delimited Text" (replacing the previous "txt" file). WARNING 1: The data must be very carefully formatted. WARNING 2: If needing to create a Window catalog containing windows using Custom Sash parameters, it gets very tricky. I recommend steering clear of this until you really want to enter maximum geekiness. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! ;-)
  23. I see no problem on my Mac. Are you using a default or custom workspace? If it's custom, try using one of the default workspaces. If that fixes it, you may need to delete the command from the custom workspace and add it back.
  24. You're welcome! A nice thing about Vectorworks is that you can choose how far you want to go in 3D, then add additional detail as 2D annotations. This allows you to start with the more basic 3D tools that do a lot of work for you (walls, slabs, roofs, doors, windows, stairs) without getting bogged down with more complex modeling until you're more comfortable. And, of course, this community board is invaluable with so many members willing to help you. :-)
