If it is 3d objects and you make sections viewports you can assign a linestyle and weight to the sections style.

I could not find it but I remember @Andy Broomell made a Marionette that does what you are asking for

I have a file with lots of apartments organized as symbols

 

I have a made a worksheet listing all symbols starting with "apartment-nr" and in the next column i count them.

Inside each symbol there are several spaces.

Is it possible to find the total area of spaces inside each symbol? Total Net area

If your plants are hybrid symbols you can have a 2d graphic fro plan view and use an image prop as the 3d part.

I would recommend making a copy of the texture and start playing with the transparency and color properties of the textures. Hopefully you find something that gives you the effect you are after
