  1. That is known as "Kerning" and it isn't available in Vectorworks 2012, but it is in the pipe as a feature for future releases.
  2. That's a "tool default", which is specific to the session/application, rather than something stored in the template file, unfortunately.
  3. This occurs even in a new document with just a sphere or cube as a rest object, rendered in a Renderworks mode in a viewport as well? In either case, get in direct touch with your support: http://www.vectorworks.net/international/ Provide them with the VWX file affected as well as the following: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/627/DirectX+Diagnostics+and+System+Profiler
  4. Its done within Document Preferences, this should cover it:
  5. You should just need to render in Hidden Line, then in Line Render Options for the design layer or for a specific viewport, enable "Sketch Hidden Line Results". This should work in 2D or 3D.
  6. The animations size on screen is determined by your drawing area, so if you expand it to fill your entire screen (if your monitor was greater than 1080p) it would export at that resolution with the QuickTime quality set to Best. There is no direct control of the output resolution or aspect ratio other than manipulation the drawing area window yet.
  7. What specifically happens when you try to render in Renderworks modes in a viewport? The option is not available or do you run into an error/crash?
  8. Submitting request now, it looks like this may already be in the pipe.
  9. For Hidden Line specifically I would mostly expect any user to ONLY want snapping to work on the generated lines in the render. Is that reasonable, or would there be some motivation to want to snap to hidden geometry?
  10. Something is definitely up with it at the moment and it is being tracked currently. Shoulder length issues, some during creation and some randomly re-sizing when moving all or part of it. Adding this post to the case. [img:center]http://i.imgur.com/7NpjkkD.jpg[/img]
  11. There is a guy who makes shoes in Vectorworks. Sneakers and padded/armored boots for riding motorcycles and ATVs. Each layer is a different part of the (apparently MANY) layers of plastic, foam and cloth that make up the sole. There is a huge array of things that people do with the software it was never intended for. Love it. In any case, search-ability for classes/layers (maybe a simple search box at the top of the nav palette?) is a solid wish, and I can see the benefit of an organizational system for layers, submitting requests now.
  12. That issue is now listed as identified and that a fix has been found, but there is no version or date listed yet for when it will be implemented. I will keep an eye on it and post if anything is updated.
  13. Agreed. Especially for something like the tape measure tool, its intended as a quick and easy way to get a fast measurement, having to mentally track all kinds of sub-settings negates a lot of its utility.
  14. I recall that other wishlist item, I will add this thread to it.
  15. I don't think there is a direct setting for this. What I have found in rendered viewports is that there is an "edge" of the viewport itself, an "edge" of the rendered bitmap image and if the viewport is cropped, then that can introduce a third "edge" when one would expect that to be the same exact perimeter for all three. In my experience it has only been a pixel or two off in most cases, but that is enough to seriously affect a design in some situations. Submitting now.
  16. This is a condensed link for the DesignJet 510 (24in, non-PS) version of that driver for 10.9: http://tinyurl.com/qb4k472 However, it has not been updated since March, which most likely means it has not yet been made compatible with 10.9.4. But, if you haven't manually installed this yet, go ahead and do so just in case. Normally Software Update pulls what you need but sometimes not.
  17. I think this is not a wishlist item but actually an issue to be corrected. When you have "show other objects while in editing modes" turned on in Vectorworks Preferences, either grayed or not, the original plan was that this would also enable the snapping for this geometry as well. In any case, submitting this as a request just to be sure. It will be happening one way or another.
  18. I think the problem is with snapping as well, in Top/Plan the snapping is able to refer to the object stacking order to determine priority for snapping to certain points. In front/left/right/back a user would almost (as far as I have ever seen) want to measure from any point in the foreground to any point further "back" from the screen. This happened/happens when drawing in those views with things like 3d polygons and NURBS as well, it snaps way off in the distance while looking totally right until checked in an isometric view. When the tape measure tool is used in isometric, it is actually easier to get the snap points you expect, but I have seen that the user will more often enter an elevation view to get these measurements. Often its REALLY obvious that the measurement is way off (45 feet where it should have been 9 feet)and then the user would be able to catch it, which is still bad but sometimes it is only off by a slight amount (From the front side of a walls top to the opposite side of a walls bottom, adding an errant 3"-8") and missing that early on would lead to much bigger problems down the line. Needs to be addressed. Submitting issue now.
  19. Using Purge will help reduce the file size and can help mitigate the problem: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1224/Purging+Your+Document However, there are hard limits at the moment that will be going away, its discussed in a number of threads. I think this is the most recent: https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=199343
  20. I'm having to go from memory for 2008, but if you double click on the Snap to Objects button, in the dialogue there should be a setting for "Snap to Edge" or "Nearest point on edge" if this is already enabled, disable it, close Vectorworks and relaunch, then enable it and retry the snapping. I vaguely recall that being an issue in 2008 but its been too long for me to be sure.
  21. With the plant tool active and no objects selected, go to Text > Font and pick your font and size, then place a plant. That will set the tool default for the Plant tool specifically, the tools work separately, so if you did the same thing with the Text tool but picked a different font, then the tools would both keep their separate custom font. The key thing to remember is that NO objects can be selected when you do this, or it will just change the font of the selected object. In the future this will likely be controllable via something save-able in a template, such as a class.
  22. After my careful scientific analysis I have come to the conclusion that it is completely random and without rhyme or reason of any kind. If you always draw exactly the same shape, it appears consistent, but after drawing out lots of iterations in various shapes, it isn't picking a particular place in the line (I have seen 1, 2, 3 and 8 as the selected tags) or whatever was drawn first or last, or even whichever one is the highest or lowest or furthest left and right. Submitting as an issue now.
  23. The whole package is now being moved up, starting around 2012ish. We're hauling the old stuff away in dumpsters as fast as we can. Personal opinion: Unfortunately this more than doubles overhead and required employees. Massive companies are able to pull this kind of industry-wide handbrake turn... but without the capital of Apple or AutoDesk behind it, I would say it is unlikely this is an option for us as a much smaller company.
